...of people having a pet peeve about family members whom show up to their abode unannounced.
In Western and/or American, it's seen as being discourteous and disrespectful.

Is this an integral part of cultures around the world? Please pardon my ignorance in advance.

On the contrary, are there cultures in which a family member would show up unannounced and there
are absolutely no qualms no bones about it?

Showing up unannounced is an issue in western countries since most people are overworked and have little free time. This is especially true in Japan where people date each other for years but will never actually step inside their girlfriends or boyfriends house. Retired people seem to be the only ones that don't mind you coming over without calling first.
