An old friend of mine, who works as a counselor now, shared this article.

"Researchers have identified certain personality traits which equip us to cope with stress and crisis more effectively. Specifically, they are a highly sociable personality, an active coping style, and an internal locus of control that I mentioned earlier. Entitlement attitudes retard, or block, the development of those traits, and leave us exposed to more psychological damage during times of extreme stress or trauma."

...being sociable and having lots of friends also improve health and lifespan:

After living & working in some countries I became accustomed to certain benefits & standards of life. Then I moved here to Turkey, initially there were so many problems with work ethics & housing etc. It was a Beautiful country but I was not as happy as I was before. This place had it's pros & cons. I soon realised I was focusing on the cons & not seeing what I had, instead I was focused on what i didn't have. It's also all about attitude & how you approach everything. This entitlement attitude will be the demise of anyone in a foreign country because like me, I kept comparing the old & the new. We're all spoilt to a certain degree as children & even into alduthood. Sometimes we just need to be our own judge & jury.
