Try the Amish or Orthodox Judaism.

I'd imagine there are some Christian Fundamentalists who dont believe in watching TV and listening to music. I went to school with one woman whose husband was a pastor. They dont have a TV themselves, although they cheat by going to neighbors' homes to watch TV.

Maybe in foreign countries you could find one of these subsets of people who shun the media. You might have to go to church and meet people though.

Hollywood isnt so bad as long as the people watching it realize it isnt reality and the women dont seek to emulate it. If the women watching it turn into loud mouthed, ball busting wenches, then you know.
A good man is above pettiness. He is better than that.

I haven't been to movies in years and pop music is garbage. The only television I watch is History Channel. These industries are controlled by pigs and their filthy output will just degrade your brain.

No its normal. I don't even tune in to while Im driving, to the latest pop drivel on "Top 40" that took over the same station after Tom Leykis went off in 2009. My listening diet consists of Classical, Jazz (Miles Davis, etc) and the Rock classics that the old school consider "real" music. Some smooth jazz every now and then, but I go to the Hollywood Bowl to hear it live for a summer night's relaxation.

I haven't been to see a Hollywood flick on the big screen in over 10 years. I read some article that the amount of original stories compared to remakes, sequels and reboots is miniscule. The crap that comes out of that place now is a reflection of the cesspool Hollywood has become, with all the libtard trimmings to go with it. It pisses me the f**k off. Such a f***ing waste of beautiful 35mm film stock too.

When I was driving (a lot); If I wasn't listening to my own mixes or other DJ's, I would listen to Sirius. I hardly listen to broadcast FM and that's why returning to DJ'ing for the masses and young people is something that is not attractive to me.

I have been focusing on old school and I don't men Millennials calling music from 2005 "Old School" I mean stuff from the mid 70's to the late 90's, occasionally in the 2000's and beyond.

I have never consumed music like most people do and I also have had way more Pop influence than I would say typical Black Dj's have had in the past.

As to movies and TV, I don't watch much broadcast TV and almost nothing live. All my TV is time-shifted either by Windows Media Center (DVR) or online sources via XBMC. In fact today, at some point I'll be watching Charlie's Angels (Farrah, Kate, Jaclyn) and Bionic Woman (I think season 2). I think there's some content on DIY Network and the rest is news.

I've been collecting Anime and Animation from the 80's and 90's.

Robotech, Dirty Pair (TV Series), Voltron, GI Joe, M.A.S.K, Wheeled Warriors, Tranzor Z, Starvengers, Capt Scarlet, Spider man (1967-1994), etc, etc, etc.

When I am bored I watch that, but lately I have been playing GTA IV, down to the last mission, I picked the deal and lost Roman. Now I gotta kill Dmitri.

america sucks wrote:I've spent some time abroad and it seems like people abroad are just as dumbed down as Americans when it comes to their obsession with movies and pop music. I can stand local films and pop music but I absolutely hate hollywood and the American entertainment industry. That's why I'm not so sure moving abroad is a complete solution
What do you guys think? Do only complete weirdos not watch movies or listen to music much?
Here's your problem. You're looking for perfection ("complete solution").

1. You will not find perfection.

2. Perfection is a moving target.

Where do you draw the line between acceptable and unacceptable? In particular, what are the requirement for a reasonable culture in which to raise your children?

I guess by definition you are "weird" if you do not do what the majority does and like what the majority likes be it sound or pictures. If you actually do like it but refuse to watch, normally for faith related reasons, you could be considered fanatical. However people don't usually label someone a fanatic for refusing to watch porn even if it does make you respond in that pleasurable way.

I draw the line between acceptable/unacceptable based on "hardware" environmental factors first. Hardware is defined as physical things such as clean air to breath, clean water to drink, availability/access to open space (parks, beaches), housing density, proximity to good schools, etc.

In the US, I'd prefer housing with "elbow room", say suburban housing with >5,000 sq ft land-lots. This is of course not always possible abroad and may require some compromise, but ideally I'd like to teach my kids gardening, fishing, and hunting in the US. I think kids should be taught how to eat fish with bones, and that a fish is a living thing that has a head, tail, and fins, not some square piece of filet in a sandwich.

Things like culture, entertainment, music, etc. falls under the secondary "software" environmental category. My cultural requirements here may differ from you as I'm a 1.5 gen immigrant. If I were to have children, I'd like some degree of proximity to my ethnic sub-culture, for example Chinese language immersion programs at local schools:

I'd also encourage my children to learn other languages. As a parent (if I have kids) my goal would be to take my kids abroad from time to time and have them experience different cultures and languages. Ideally, if I could find employment contract abroad. If not, then at least study abroad programs, exchange programs, summer programs, etc. for the kids. My preference would be Taiwan/China, Japan, and France.
