check this out.
my female neighbor is in her late 20's -- she's a chef -- below average looks. she starts telling me that every now and then she can hear me say ;'woo hoo' -- and wanted to know if i'm doing this cause of sports or something. she also says she hears me on the fone every now and then. mind you--i'm not yelling--she says she knows that but she can hear mumbling! wtf??
so me being a gentleman i try to be nice and even change the topic. we were talking about colleges - jobs whatever. when i told her that a college is interested in having me teach next semester -- she immediately jumps in and says they'res a waiting list to teach and they're not hiring drama teachers--etc. what the heck does she know--she's a cook?? i told her i was headed next year to london to act -- and she acted like big deal -- she knows someone who was on american idol! i mean why can't women give a compliment--or show interest in someone else other than them??
women were not like this in the past -- it's like they have a no compliment policy.
It wasn't like this in the 1980's and early 1990's -- that's for sure bud.

PEOPLE are different, college is a joke, acting is a joke. Become a politician if you want to act.

that's fine. i dont think college is a joke. and the terminal masters degree that i have has earned me a decent living. acting ain't a joke either. for almost thirty years i've earned a living doing what i love.
the point of my argument is that it's hard to engage a woman into a conversation. i would never tell her that being a chef is a joke. nor going to the cooking school was a waste of time.
i don't tell you that your career is a joke. so dont go ranking on others lives. you've illustrated my point perfectly. you put someone else down to feel better about yourself. i didn't look to put you down, pick a fight, or insult your way of earning a living. and notice -- i'm still not doing so.

Ignore Monteroque, bennandsarah; He's just a raving conspiracy, end-of-the-world pessimistic type that brings very little substance to the forum...I can't understand half-of-the-things he posts anyway, because it's illogical and nonsensical most of the time...

Sure they were. They were just more subtle.
The idea here was to trigger your ego and competitive instinct.
Put down your occupation and you were supposed to reveal directly or indirectly how much you made, or had in savings or investments, or connections, etc.
She just wasn't pretty enough to flip your switch.
Triggering ego and competition among men is the original 'neg'.
Try this experiment: Never broach to topic of theater with her again.
See how many conversations go by before SHE ASKS YOU ABOUT IT.
