American Pop Songs With Feminist Message

Post by Bao3niang »

Here are teo (and especially strong ones) I can think of:

1) Kelly Clarkson-"What Doesn't Kill You" (lyrics: "You know the bed feels warmer, sleeping here alone. You know I dream in color, and do the things I want".)

2) Britney Spears-"Stronger" (lyrics: "Here I go, on my own. I don't need nobody better off alone.... Stronger than yesterday, it's nothing but my way.....")

Maybe Katy Perry's "Part of Me" can also count, but I think that song's message can apply to asserting one's individuality in general.

Also, US pop songs seem to promote cheating and promiscuity:

1) "Fergalicious-Fergie

2) "Womanizer"-Britney Spears

3) "Starships"-Nicki Minaj

Check out some of these, too.

1) Alicia Keys – Superwoman

2) Jennifer Lopez – Love Don’t Cost a Thing

3) No Doubt – Just a Girl

4) Nelly Furtado – Promiscuous

More feminism potency on the mind.

The pop music industry also promotes lesbianism:

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chap stick

Us girls we are so magical
Soft skin, red lips, so kissable
Hard to resist so touchable
Too good to deny it

You're all missing the original, Madonna's "Express Yourself" back in 1989

Here's the Material Girl ...

Many years ago, the Best Picture of 1999, "American Beauty", telegraphed the message of Happier Abroad to the world.

Beware of long term engagements with AWs, you may find yourself in a coffin.

AB discussion thread

BTW, despite settling down with an AW, myself, the warning is still in effect.

Pussycat Dolls- "When I Grow Up"

Gwen Stefani-"Rich Girl"

The most materialistic/vain Chinese song I can think of is "看我72变" by Jolin Cai.

Some of the lyrics goes as follows:

美丽极限, 爱漂亮没有终点。(taking beauty to the extreme, there is no limit to looking beautiful).

追求完美的一切,人不爱美天诛地灭。(seeking perfection in everything, if someone does not care about looking beautiful she will be doomed.)

。。。。。

让鼻子再高一点,(lifting up the nose a bit more)
空气更新鲜。(will bring fresher air)

。。。。

再见单眼皮再见。(say goodbye to single eyelids)

。。。。

腰围再小一点。(the waist can still become thinner)
