My current HA plans

I recently did my Fafsa for school and found out I qualify for a low interest $10,5000 loan from the government. I plan to get that loan and use it to take summer classes. I'll be able to what I want with the rest of it (Which will be most of it). If I take 4 classes over the summer i'll get 12 credits and have 36 total credits. I need 46 to graduate with a general tranfer associate's degree. So my plan is to get that loan, use it to take summer classes, get those classes knocked out and have 36 credits, and use the rest to pay off my car and go to Moscow to take the Celta course in August or September. I figure I can do that to satisfy my urge to travel and then I can come home and complete my associate's degree (I'll only need to complete another semester). After I get my celta and Associate's Degree I'll get a job teaching English somewhere overseas and I can get a Bachelor's Degree online through a University in my home town while I live and work overseas. What do you guys think? I think it's a pretty good plan and my family agrees with me.

The money should go towards what it is intended to go for. If you want to travel get a J O B and pay for it like a man.

Hey azzhole, I do have a job. So you can take your condescending attitude and take a long walk off a short pier . I work full-time (40 hours a week) and go to school full-time. If you read my post you would have known that I will use that loan to take summer classes. After my summer classes are paid for I will have more than half of it left and can use it for whatever I want. I plan to use that to take the Celta course in Moscow. Once I complete the course, I will come home and only have one more semester to finish my Associate's Degree. After that I will be able to start teaching abroad and pay off my loan. Feel foolish now? You should read what people wrote before you shoot your mouth off.

The loan was not given to you to go to Moscow. I'm in my 30s now and people are still paying that stuff off. I know people even older paying off that stuff. Insult me today, kick yourself ten years from now.

People never plan ahead. If you ever want to bring a woman over from a place like Moscow you need to have the finances to do it.

Student loans, rent/mortgage, car, home insurance, car insurance, internet/tv, utilities, gas for car, groceries, entertainment.

Teaching overseas pays very little. Other than using it as a way to meet people and make it for a temporary period overseas it's a bad idea unless of course you want to teach in the Middle East. You can take this as a ghost from Christmas future or you can be an ignorant kid that learns the hard way. Either way you are showing a sense of entitlement because you think you should go to Moscow now when you simply cannot afford to do so.

How am I showing a sense of entitlement? Because I qualify for a loan and i'm going to take it and use it for my benefit? It would be a sense of entitlement if I said "I want a loan! give it to me now!" Also, I can afford to go to Moscow. I've already said I planned to go this summer long before I found out I qualified for this loan. The issue is I couldn't afford to take the celta course too. The Celta course costs nearly $2,000 on it's own. That loan will allow me to do that. And i'm well aware that I wont get rich being an English teacher. However, I will be able to save money if I get jobs that provide accommodation because i'm not a big spender. Part of the reason I want to go get my Celta soon is because I want to make sure I will like teaching English. If I take the Celta course in Moscow i'll be at a school and be able to talk to teachers in person and get a feel for what it's like. It may be that I find out that I don't like teaching English. If that ends up being the case i'll still have that Celta in my back pocket in case I need a job somewhere.

Your response back to me is showing what I'd call a more mild case of ignorance compared to the link I'm going to provide to you.

http://college.usatoday.com/2015/07/21/ ... n-3-years/

That link looks at a young woman who blew money set aside for college on things like trips to Europe. Russia and the FSU don't pay English teachers very well regardless of background. In Asia you are probably better off without Celta as long as you look clean cut and white versus a black or asian male with a celta.

The only reason a young man should be borrowing money is for a car, a pad, and an education/training if it will lead to a high paying job.

You are showing a sense of entitlement in a much more milder way than the woman. The loans and aid you are talking about should go directly into tuition and books. And your job should pay for you to survive while you go to school. If your family isn't loaded and you have to take on any debt at all you probably should go to a public school and pick your major very carefully.

When I was 18 to 24 I didn't do anything to hinder my 26 to 32 self from traveling and meeting women. That's a great thing I did for my future self. Traveling to Moscow while in college is great if you have the extra money, but if you don't you should pass. Things are generally okay while you are in college (unless you were born looking like you were hit in the face with a shovel). The real problem occurs when college is over and the young people disperse. The decent ones get with a guy and settle down too. That's when you will need the resources to be able to look overseas.

Despite the name calling, I will give you credit for at least wanting to look overseas. In college I was just starting to get curious about travel, and I wasn't as serious as you about traveling to places like Moscow. We all want instant gratification, but it is better to set goals around limiting your debt.

Why do you think there is so much talk and complaining on here? Too many guys have too many problems. Debt, bills, child support, low income job, etc. You've got to get your life together first. In the mean time wear a condom with those gringas.

I did my CELTA last year (and went HA to do it). Most of my fellow students were drifters, only 2 of us had "proper" careers. You'll never regret getting a proper career.

But travelling is always good. Just do it with your own cash. Last year when I was interviewing for jobs people didn't give a stuff about my CELTA. But my time spent living in China - now that was something that people found awesome about my resume.

No college is not ok........ You must be an older guy because any guy in my generation will tell you it's hard as heck to meet women. For guys in my generation, America is a sausage fest, plain and simple. I just turned 25 and I chased American women for years and don't have anything to show for it except a few mediocre and ugly women I got from playing the numbers game. I'm not going to lie and tell you I'm Brad Pitt, but I am tall and more or less average looking and try to dress well. I don't expect 10s, but d*mn it I ought to be able to meet decent looking women who are interested in me. There's something wrong when ugly fat women can get any guy and decent looking guys are rotting in sexual poverty. I have had it with this crap... I want out... now.

Well I got the loan. It was as simple as accepting it on the computer at the financial aid office. After I take some summer classes i'll be headed to Moscow for a month to take my Celta. After that i'll come home, finish school, and save up some more money and then I'll start working overseas.

The "older" guy is right. Skip the celta or take it in the States. Wait til you graduate. Then if you want to go overseas and work give it a shot. How much do you think you will be earning in Russia? What are your expenses. I noticed you hit the "easy" button. Did you do the actual math?

I finished my grad work at the end of 2008. Guys of your generation which aint much younger than me will all have their own experiences. Many guys do get laid regularly by at least decent looking women in college. If you think it's hard for you now, it will get harder for you once you aren't around the young women anymore. You need to plan ahead not get buried in debt.

Last semester I took a psychology class as an elective and there were statistics about the sexual activity of young people from 2012 in the book. The statistics showed that 40% of college aged men had not had sex in the past year. Granted, that was just one year, but do you really think the numbers would change that much from year to year? Those statistics line up with my own real world experience as a young man. We have incelibacy on a large scale in America when nearly half of young men haven't had sex in the past year. Do you really think that many young guys with raging hormones are choosing not to get laid? Just think about it.

The problem with that is I don't live near a city that offers the Celta course. The closest city for me would be Atlanta and that's like 4 hours away from me. So if I were going to do that I would have to stay in a hotel there for a month and that would cost a good chunk of change. The reality is I wouldn't really be saving any money by doing that because hotels are dang expensive. So why not go to Moscow? I will be able to take the Celta course and see a city I want to see. And yes I have considered things. As I said I plan to pay off my car with part of the loan and once I do that I won't have any major expenses. I'll be able to save lots of money by doing that alone! And I have seen some good paying teaching jobs in Russia, but they are admittedly few and far between. However, I never said it was Russia or bust. I will teach elsewhere if it benefits me. Russia is just a place I want to visit. If I can find a good job there great. If not I'll go elsewhere.
