Who would have guessed that it would have turned into a box office juggernaut?

As a result of the aforementioned, he was able to bankroll his 'Star Wars' project, you know, the greatest SF/fantasy trilogy in film history prior to the 'Lord of the Rings', which was really one book/film cut in thirds. And what's more amazing was that he owned the rights to the SW sequels and the merchandising which is what made him a billionaire.

And without wasting time, he produced and released 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' between 'SW: The Empire Strikes Back' and 'SW: The Return of the Jedi'. And then shortly afterwards, both Indiana Jones sequels were successful.

So that's the span of time from 1973 to 1989, where Lucas went from an underground film maker to the greatest show of all time.

But that was it!

Since then, he was never able to recapture his halcyon days with flicks like 'Howard the Duck', 'Willow', and the SW prequels. So I presume that handing the torch over to Kathleen Kennedy was basically signing his own death certificate.

If the Palpatina Reign of Error ends, then you're probably right. The Tragedy of Darth Vader would be the Shakespeare of the 20th century. The problem is that Kathleen is making everyone sick of the series and isn't helping its long term legacy.

As for stand alone adventures, I don't believe that there's an action movie, greater than 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'. In effect, it was the consummate period piece which doesn't depend upon futuristic props, etc, to sell its 'wow' effect. It's simply a great story with an ironic ending which made it what it was. Even Ridley Scott's 'Alien', the best horror (mixed w/ Sci-Fi) film ever, dated itself with the computer screens, etc, which clearly showed that it was movie made at the start of the PC era.

It's sad to me. They get competent directing this time with TLJ, but lousy story and characterizations. Wasted opportunity to push SJW agenda onto moviegoers like forcing to watch via "Clockwork Orange".
