Return of Ghost

Post by Ghost » July 29th, 2018, 2:34 am

Hello everyone, your friendly neighborhood Ghost has decided to phase back into existence for a while.

I left the forum a couple of years ago to get away from the toxicity and be more productive. In that time, I've had more travels, more women, more relationships. I've also written a new book. You could probably guess that, and we'll get to that in a bit.

To me things look to be getting worse out there in the world. This forum is no stranger to that claim. I'm not certain that there is any safe haven left. I do not see any holdout countries that are not bowing to feminism, the erosion of traditional life, and the liberalization of their culture.

A large influx of wealth and jobs into poor countries has made the women more closed off to foreign men. Smartphones are now commonplace in poor countries, along with the scourge that social media and hookup apps bring.

Oh, you thought that since smartphones are relatively expensive that they would never flood into the third world? Think again. Remember the jobs and wealth the West sunk into China? With all that also came know-how. Ten, fifteen, twenty or more years ago, Chinese made goods were complete shit and everyone knew it. Now they've taken the knowledge the West gave them (at its own expense no less) and learned how to make decent knockoffs, imitations, and even their own brands. And of course they do it cheaper than the West does. Result: smartphones have flooded into virtually every country, and pickiness and narcissism are gradually rising.

The West's mistakes are the gift that keeps on giving.

Anyway, it looks pretty hopeless to me. What I mentioned above is just the tip of it.

Oh, that's where my book comes in.

Put short, it's called Expatriation Ragnarok, and I recently released it on Amazon. It's a continuation of what I wrote about in Expatriation Apocalypse, and it is astounding how the world condition has deteriorated since then.

In the book, I explain what went wrong and how we got into this mess. And I explain just how severe and precarious the situation is.

Does it get worse? Of course it does!

There is more economic doom to come for the common man, and expatriation is not the solution is once was. (But if possible, it is still something you should take advantage of in the meantime.) I don't make prognostications, but rather I explore what I see as the most likely 'doom' scenarios (for the common man) for the West.

I still focus on the man who is starting at zero or near zero. Those of us who have plenty of experience abroad can still benefit too. And in the book I talk about how you can get as much out of expatriation as you can.

Here it is on Amazon:

Expatriation Ragnarok

There may be a paperback version in the future too, depending on how things go and how much time I have.

I'll be haunting arou---er, hanging around for a while on the forum.

Cheers,

Ghost

Btw ghost. Did you consider that maybe if you had the money to relocate to a country that fits your personality and soul better than China, that maybe you would be happier abroad and your attitude more optimistic? The thing is China isnt a great fit for you or me either. When we met we discussed this and felt the same way.

Btw guys, ghost is one of the most genuine and empathetic guys you'll ever meet who tells it like it is. When I tell him stuff and my feelings about it, i never have to repeat myself. He gets me instantly and is on the same page. Unlike some of you guys here.

Welcome back dude. You have made a lot of good points in your posts.

But yeah, It's not to say that being happier abroad is dead but I notice that the window seems to be closing fast as well...

I have never had doubts that Ghosts was one of the better posters in here and, probably, one of the better people. Having met him in person, I am glad you are confirming my thoughts.

By the way, money isn't necessarily a good proxy to happiness abroad. Even those men who move to - say - Singapore because they have the money, or they can make good enough money, to live comfortably there, they don't really report having such a flamboyant life. The better girls are the mainland Chinese, the Vietnamese and the Filipinas or Indonesians who work there, often in the lower rungs of the professional ladder.

Of course money isnt going to help you get good quality sweet feminine girls to love you for you. What i meant was that ghost is stuck in China because he needs to work there, even though he doesnt fit the culture or people, for all the reasons we discussed already. So when you are stuck somewhere you become unhappy and jaded. So i was asking if he had the freedom or money to go anywhere, would he be more positive about HA? You see my point?

Btw ghost does have a girlfriend now. Shes a filipina who works in Singapore. She has good qualities and treats him good. But she has a quick temper and is a drama queen sometimes too.

I see now, thanks for clarifying. Didn't remember Ghost had a job in China. If so, I guess his contractual obligation didn't make it so easy for him to move at short notice. Still, he has been luckier than most to escape the life routine of the US.

If his gf works in Singapore, he will certainly be acquainted with life in the City State. I guess it can be OK if you find yourself a cheap accommodation in a flatshare, always use public transport to move around, eat at the cheaper restaurants and hawkers and travel frugally. To live a decent life one needs at least 150K SGD a year, probably more if not single (anymore). Singapore has little cultural life but so many business/networking/social entertainment opportunities, it's really hard to pass them by especially when invited by your colleagues, friends and acquaintances. And that's why one can run out of cash pretty quickly! ;)

forgive me for not feeling any pity for the "common man". This is the same common men that thought it was okay to spend 2 trillion dollars on useless wars in iraq/afghanistan? f**k the West. The west has become evil, 90% of westerners are evil. I hope they all suffer and experience misery as the western economies collapse more and more.

INTELLIGENT western men need to get out and move to Asia. Asia is where the future is.

I don't see much to be hopeful about, so this is my focus. I'm trying not to be overly negative about it all though. I'm more content nowadays since at least I got my chance abroad. And perhaps I'll be able to help others who are trying to trying to get their chance too, even if I can only help in small ways.

Yes, I do think there are many countries where I'd be happier in than China. China gives me a sort of baseline happiness in that it gives me strictly the essentials: a job, a higher than local salary combined with a low cost of living, my own place, a dating pool, and so on. But it lacks anything deeper in my experience. And it can be soul killing. China is not a place to have deep, genuine conversations and connections with others. Chinese women are going to see you only in practical terms, and tend to become tiger wives/moms after marriage. Everything in China is about conformity and practicality, and the hive-mind-worker-bee mentality is often overbearing and soul killing. The architecture is drab, grey, and consists of row upon row of soullessness.

There are exceptions to everything I said above, and I don't intend to knock anyone's positive experiences in China. A lot of guys go there and do well and even build lives there. (Those who do best are usually ethnically Chinese and speak Mandarin fluently or natively.) I've greatly enjoyed my jobs in China, and teaching there was fun. My students were among the most genuine people I met in the country, and they are definite exceptions to what I wrote above. It is even possible to find good women there who are also exceptions.

But there is just a deeper connection missing there for me. China can be a mystery or seeming contradiction. Do I lack the connection because I am a white guy in a deeply insular East Asian country that could never truly be a home for a foreigner? Is it because I see Chinese politics and PC as silly and overly sensitive? Is it because I like having conversations about more than school and work and money? Probably these and more. Even putting more effort into learning Chinese didn't lend me a greater connection. I ended up with a hobby and that's it.

Maybe it wasn't always this way. Chairman Mao and communism ruined the culture in just a couple of generations in so many ways. If you look into what China was hundreds and thousands of years ago, it's hard to believe it was always at heart what it is now.

Anyway, I'll get off my China soapbox for now.

I know now that I really don't like living there, so I should try other countries. The thing is, I do need to think about what my job / salary / conditions / etc. would be like in other countries. For example, I'd love to try teaching somewhere in Europe (I feel like I've seen enough of the 'third world') but jobs are harder to come by and salaries are low even if you get them. A lot of them entail long hours too (20-25+ contact hours a week, which is nuts to me) and questionable work conditions. Even worse, a lot of those jobs don't even offer the "right" visa. Add in the high cost of living and a questionable social life / dating pool (made worse by having a low salary) and it ends up being a lot of risk for either low or no reward.

That's just Europe. Africa I have no interest living in. Other parts of Asia can't rival China's EFL job market, and don't appeal much to me anyway. Latin America interests me but the salaries are laughably low in most of those countries. That leaves Oceania and North America, and those are Anglosphere, so those are a no go.

The world is getting to be a small place.

Thanks for the compliment Winston. You are too. It's very easy and genuine talking to you in real life too. I think the nature of forums makes it hard for that to comes across at times, especially when posting a lot about your interests like flat earth, conspiracies, etc. I think 95%+ of posters would like you and get along with you well in real life, and vice versa.

God, I hate Singapore with a passion. It's expensive, soulless, and combines the worst of the East and West into one compact city state. I get the feeling that most Singaporeans don't even question their little rat race or have any wish to escape from it. That's the hive-mind-worker-bee mentality at work I guess. The women are soulless careerists too, and it shows: Singapore's birthrate is among the lowest in the world. It is clean, efficient, and orderly - I'll give it that. And the food options are great.

Money is important, but it isn't the only thing. If you live in a crappy place where you make a lot of money...you still live in a crappy place.

YMMV, of course. :)
