It's going to be hilarious to watch their profits evaporate when they try to pull this crap. Who is going to pay $50 a month for the same corporate swill that everyone is rejecting on TV and newspapers? Their TV audience, especially among the prime audience of males 18 - 35 is just vanishing. But do they care if they destroy the internet? Maybe they're so wealthy that the crackdown on freedom of speech is more important than ISP corporate profits..

If the internet were to be "shut down", the greatest tragedy is that there is absolutely no alternative at this point in time. The grass roots MUST start working on alternative means of mass communication, like obtaining radio stations, am and fm, ham radio, mailings and whatever else people can think of. We, the people, must be able to network and support these methods of communication. The internet is an awesome weapon of Truth. The NWO absolutely knows this. They have unleashed their dogs and they will try to shut it down, some way shape or form. It's time to prepare for it!

True..
None of the allegations would surprise me at all. When you think about it, the Internet is too good to be true. Especially in these times of mass media buyouts, total domination and compartmentalization, government infiltration and sanctioning of television networks, mass censorship, a majority of what we see, read and hear under control of a few corporate empires which dictate govt. approved content, and the MSM utilized as propaganda orifice for "elites" and government pro fascism pro war agenda while turning a blind eye- refusing to report what they don't want us to see if the story doesn't fit the plan. The Internet is a breath of fresh air! I for one certainly don't take it for granted. I am extremely thankful Internet exists in its present state for truth in these times of universal deceit, lies, cover-up and massive manipulations in what has become "our" government. Where would we be without it?
The Internet is the last truly democratic medium in existence that is not controlled. They don't have stranglehold over it like everything else. The Internet hasn't been dumbed down, sanitized, corporatized, censored and tailored to fit their agenda, like everything else. They don't decide the content or what we see and have access to as they do their CIA sanctioned, controlled print media and television corpocracies. We do. We the people decide. We make the Internet what it is, not the government. This is undoubtedly frustrating for them. The Internet is like the wild west. Eventually they will take it too. And kill it. It's inevitable. Internet2 is on the horizon. The shutdown won't happen all at once as to cause "panic". They will slowly break it down piece by piece over time. Slowly grind to a halt. And it eventually will be rendered obsolete, inoperable. Just like they've done with our freedoms, Bill of Rights and dismantling our Constitution. While we are sleeping. Slowly as not to have anyone notice. Certainly the idea has crossed their minds a few times at least right?..probably showed up as "agenda" item on the "super secret!" "ultra covert" Bilderberg roster more than we'd care to realize...

"Americans think the danger is terrorism. They don't understand that Terrorists cannot take away habeus corpus, the Bill of Rights, the Constitution. Terrorists cannot suspend the constitutional government, abolish the separation of powers. Terrorism cannot pick us up, shut us up, or arrest us. The threat of terrorism is nothing like the threat of our own government in the name of fighting terrorism." -- Paul Craig Roberts, Economist, nationally syndicated columnist and 'Reaganomics' founder.

It has nothing to do with money, they don't care about that. They are starting to realize the power of alternative media... and they are starting to lose their foothold on the people.
Their plan is to keep us stupid about what is going on around us.... the internet is a way for us to find an alternative view on the BS they are trying to force down our throats.
If they kill the internet, they kill our mode of communication..... just like in any war, one of the first things you do is take out the enemys ability to communicate with eachother.

criminalize file sharing OF ANY KIND? so if I, as an artist, decide to share my music files of my own music and tell people to pass them on it's sposed to be a criminal offense then? yeah I don't think so. good luck f*ckers. The "music industry" ie Sony and Pals are on their way out and have been already for years. Simon Cowell case and point.
Chertoff and Neocons don't cross my lines. YOU are the terrorist, not us. There are no more warnings bitches. Be prepared to be prosicuted by jury of your peers. You may be hanged for your neoconistic treasons. You were warned and justice will prevail.
there's a zillion ISP's, I doubt most of them would really want to comply with such neocon malarky, as it would affect their bottom line and drive them out of business.
BTW, there is no stopping the "free" internet, altho these creeps may try. It's software (we have it) hardware (we can maintain it) and connective wires/broadcast signal (we can lay our own, and ground is common and also signals can be modulated onto existing wires/signals such as powerlines fairly easily).
"Do you think that's really a chair your fat-ass is sitting on NEO?" quote Bill S PReston Esquire from Bill and Ted's matrix adventure

It simply can't be true. Have you seen the youtube video? A little "stunt" halfway through proves that these guys cannot be taken seriously ;P
Interesting article though: all credit to the site for being NPOV.
All you guys believing it is true... sorry.
Interesting idea though, and NIN in the background rocks

If THEY want to create the internet 2. let them.....
the fed ruins everything it touches, we will just step in and create a completely public based internet 3 that uses some other means of communication that does not require the current infrastructure. We are smarter then THEY are in greater numbers.

Everyone needs to contact their ISPs and tell them you will cancel their service if they decide to go along with this. The last couple years when renewing my ISP I always mention that I will cancel if forced onto Internet 2. Unfortunatly I think the transition has already began. Service is not what it used to be.

I believe they will try to shut down the Internet most definitely. That
is definitely their design. However, when you consider the Internet;
design + intent rarely = result.
The 'original' Internet doesn't not look a thing like it was designed to
look like. It's creators will laugh or spin in their graves to see all
the porno and snark in their cerebral higher
education/military/research net.
An example of design + intent not = result. The death of Napster didn't
end filetrading. Filetrading after Napster is at an all time high.
We will have the corporate net 2.0. We will probably also at the same
time have the other net, the older, freer, wilder net accessed via sneak
tech and 'pirates'. Those free, snarky, politically incorrect blogs
will be accessable by some technology in 2012. Either that tech hasn't
been invented yet or I am unaware of it. All I do know is, change and
challenge is the watch word, nothing stays the same. Today, pen drives
the size of pens carry gigs of data. 'Pirate' may yet be a synonim for
'Robin Hood of Free Thought.'
There are technologies yet to be invented in 2012 that may make
accessing Free Web possible with out needing an ISP.
Remember, they once said that the modern DVD was pirate proof.

Look, it's true that many corporations would like to exercise more control.
But that doesn't mean we're facing some dramatic takeover from the (nonexistent) NWO or whatever. You're being too paranoid.
