True, but again, I'm not talking about ANY random guy, but about guys you have things in common with, and a similar type of personality with too. This is especially true if you are both misfits and have interests in non-mainstream things.

The point is, guys are FAR easier to meet than girls in America and in Taiwan too. They don't project that uptight snobby defensive shield that women do.

Look at the military and how fast and easily the guys there bond with each other like family.

And look at the guys here, not all of them have girlfriends, but ALL of them have SOME guy friends.

Doesn't that prove my point?

Guys are generally approachable everywhere, even in the US, and more upfront too. You agree with that right?
Well, yeah, sort of. Except that in the US it is not easy to make friends with them, just to connect to exchange info if you have something in common and only on that topic, in general. Hard to make a friend-friend.
But it's not hard compared to making friends with women. That's the point. All guys have SOME guy friends unless they don't want to have any. This applies to misfits too. That's why it's a lot easier in comparison. But not all guys have girlfriends.

Strange but I had a different experience. Most American guys do not like me or want to have anything to do with me. They think I am a gay intellectual and shun me. The fact that I am an immigrant from a country they know little about makes it far worse for me, too. Even though I am 'white". I never had any real guy friends in the US. I was able to make friends with middle aged women though, but only friends. I did have guys help me with information. But then they would almost never invite me. Even if I thought I'd made a friend, when they were with others they would pretend they did not know me. America in general turned a very ugly ( social) face to me. I just do not fit in there socially. Do not blame it or anything. That is just the way it is. Love it or leave it. I chose the latter.

Some Black people were nice, though.

When I am in Latin America, though, things change like by the touch of a magic wand. Spanish speaking guys flock to me, we talk and connect immediately. We go out, drink and make very close friends. Any Spanish- speaking soceity is good. Thank God I speak Spanish fluently and that part of the world is open to me. In Japan, too, I made very good close friends with guys.

Arab guys are Ok but if you are not Muslim, what are you gonna do?

Thailand? No. Only those who want to rip me off. Filipino guys are Ok but again we have few things in common. We chat but they start asking very very personal questions. Plus most do not know anything as education in RP is not that great. Filipina girls are excellent as friends and lovers.

But American guys in general are just responsible at exchanging info and keeping appointments. Good as business partners or mutual interest partners. Not friends at all.

Anyway, I am not living in the US or Thailand now so things are OK for me.

We all have different experiences with our environment and countries in general.

I've lived in the US for over 20 years and have observed 2 easy methods of making friends.

The first is during your school years. I went to elementary school in Orange County, CA, and I still live here. I have couple dozen friends whom I've known for over 20 years from elementary, jr. high, high school, college, and grad school combined. At my last job were 2 girls that I went to Jr. High and HS with, plus numerous alumni from my univeristy. One of the girls that I date is from the same HS, though she's much younger. In college, I also meet many people through alumni and inter-school associations. Once you've befriend people for >20 years it's kinda hard to get rid of them, lol. Even if they moved overseas, somehow they end up at your doorstep couple years later.

The second is through special interests and hobbies. I'm a nerd, I've been in various nerdy hobbies such as Ren Faire, Dungeons and Dragons/RPG, Anime, Manga, Sci-Fi, Dr. Who, Gaming, Computers, etc. With every hobby you can meet people easily at conventions and special interest clubs. With the internet, it's even easier with online forums to reach out to nerds with common interests overseas. For example, check all the national flags on the cosplay forum:
http://www.cosplay.com/forum.php

Anime convention in Russia? Sure!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3rEYX6jBNE

WC3 fans in Sweden? Sure!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OzWIFX8M-Y

I spent about a decade in the anime hobby and meet a lot of people, including several of my ex GF's. And honestly, when you go to places like San Diego Comic Con and see over 120,000 people, and noting that it's peanuts compared to Japan's Comikon at over half a million attendee's, you realize that you're not in some small nitch or clique. A hobby is about as cliquish as baseball.

So find some hobbies that work for you, where you'd meet lots of people!

Since the "making friends with men in America" part is kind of iffy, I've decided to remove it. I've also revised it somewhat. Check the original post in this thread for the new version.

I've also added it to my ebook at http://www.happierabroad.com/ebook/Page1d.htm

The only good thing about America are a couple of things: The colleges and universities in this country are great although many of them will rip you off with outrageous tuitions and put you in enormous debt. Most of the other advanced countries in the world have either free college tuition or pay almost all of students costs.

Two, I like the sports in this country namely baseball and football. The thing is, I can always watch my teams over the Internet or on cable TV in other countries if I miss the action.Third, you can become rich in this country if you work hard, but it is becoming more and more difficult due to socialism starting to creep into American society. America has a very high business tax rate and more and more regulations are burdening the economy. Actually, I would rather start a business in Asia than America because they are becoming more capitalistic and much friendlier to entrepreneurs and businessmen. America is shooting itself in the foot by raising taxes and increasing regulations. and all the debt the government is printing up right now is going to lead to the country going bankrupt. The famed American investor Jim Rogers thinks Asia is a better opportunity than the States and encourages Americans to move overseas. Peter Schiff thinks Asian Americans should head back to Asia because he thinks America is going to implode due to disastrous government policies.

As for infrastructure, yes America has good basic infrastructure but the country is falling further behind Europe and Asia. Look at all the roads and bridges that are falling apart due to neglect. We have an awful mass transit system compared to other countries. When I was in Korea everybody and I mean everybody had broadband Internet connections much faster than America. In Europe and Japan they have super-fast bullet trains that take you where you want to go in minutes. All the positives about America are slowly disappearing.

America has many laws and opportunities for the very very poor and the very very rich. There is also a birthright citizenship that most people take for granted. In a lot of countries ( including even Australia) just being born there does not mean becoming an Australian. Also, you can legally live where you want without a permit. I remember in the ol' USSR, you could not freely move from place to place- you needed a residence registration. In Switzerland, moving from one canton to another requires permits and visas. There is no exit visa at the airport as in some countries. You can also practice any religion you want. And if you are gay, you are OK.
Just now I was in Russia and cops there just walk around and check people's documents. Cops can also do it in the US but there needs to be some kind of probable cause or suspicion. Not in Russia. It is just arbitrary.
Also, trials and legal processes are faster than in a lot of countries. You can shoot people in self defense but in many countries even if you do, you are still a murderer. There is innocent until proven guilty, whereas in a lot of countries it is the other way around.
There is no national ID card, in a lot of countries there has to be one.

Swincor, that's just rhetoric. Can you give me one demonstratable or testable example of how being Asian is an advantage over being white in America? One that I can test?

gordan wrote:I have no future since I have no skills. I'm relying on potential alternatives that will come into play IF things go as planned. If not then I will commit hara-kiri since there will be no alternative in "America".
Would you be interested in acquiring the skills necessary to climb the socio-economic ladder?

To cite one example,

I don't know what State or City you live in, so I can only cite my own area (your city/state may differ). Here in CA it'd cost you less than $1,000 to $1,200 to obtain a real estate sales person's license. This includes telecourse with books, state license exam, realtor association fees, background check and finger printing fees, etc. The cost of entering this profession is relatively low, but so are the pay for the first year, working either part time or as a jr. associate at your local realtor's office.

However, it's also one profession where the harder you work, the more $ you'd make. You'd also make many friends and business contacts with brokers, lenders, agents, escrow, etc. Through experience, you'd learn which properties are the most profitable, and you have access to MLS listing ahead of non-agents. Again, the barrier of entry is low and to pass the exam, you only need 70% (a "C").

If you're good with your hands, you can buy fixer-uppers, get a contractor's license (about $600 for class here), and flip properties. Some of the biggest tax exemptions are in real estate. For investment propeties you have tax deferral through 1031 exchange. For personal residence you get tax exemption of 250k for singles and 500k for couples when you sell your house. You could possibly do it every 2 years (consult your tax adviser).

If none of that looks appealing to you, I do have a former coworker who got laid off with me and was completely fed up with society as a whole, plus he really hated Mexicans and went ballistic when his daughter dated a Mexican in school. So he sold his house, packed up and moved to Wyoming. If this lifestyle appeals to you, the "frontier" lifestyle is still possible for those who wish to find it:

http://www.backwoodshome.com/

However, should you choose the real estate path, you'd need to get over the Mexican thing, because illegal or 1st generation Mexican immigrants actually make some of the best cash-paying tenants. The 2nd+ generation ones can be trouble, and some black tenants would simply not pay you rent until you evict them. So speaking as a landlord, I'm pleased when I hear Mariachi music. The properties in Mexican neighborhoods are also chepaer and more affordable.

==========

To some level I do try to understand your frustations. I'm an immigrant from Taiwan and, years ago I had lengthy conversations with white friends who decided to "drop out" of the system. They told me that America is a land of immigrants surpassing the earlier inhabitants. It doesn't matter if it's Indians, Spanish, Anglo-Saxons, whatever. The new immigrant from poorer country is "hungry" and will do whatever it takes to succeed, and those already residing here with sense of entitlement may be marginalized until they dissapear. Just as these friends of mine were marginalized by the new economic reality that they didn't adjust to, the same may occur to my own future decendents. Consequently this is also one area where Anglo-Saxons are superior to Asians, they have the foresight of wealth not lasting 3 generations, so the family trust fund was invented to keep their decendents releveant regardless of their skill and capability.

Also, if there are opportunities for the poor here then why do peasant Chinese and Mexicans go through our recycling bins?
Because that is yet another American opportunity for them. They find a lot of stuff in'em. Back home there would be too many beggars rummaging through these bins and nothing would be left for them. In the US they contain enough treasure to feed and even clothe those poor peasants.

After the Real Estate bubble burst in 2005-2006, a lot of people in the business were hurting. But RE cycles come and go, and when the prices drop low enough people will start buying. This summer was great for the foreclosure shoppers and now people are picking over the bones. The banks are holding a LOT of foreclosed properties in short sale or simply not on the market.

I cannot speak for your State, but in CA, to become a RE agent you only need to attend 3 classes and pass the RE exam. The barrier of entry is low, but so is the initial pay. It's not easy and will take a few years before you climb up. But you get to learn where the best properties are and meet all the people necessary to help you buy it.

The RE market will probably be shaky until 2012, but it'd be an up cycle and I think it's an excellent time to get in and ride your way up over the next decade. We still have a lot more foreclosures coming in 2010 and if you can get a job with a company that deals with foreclosures next year, the business will be booming.

Another area that you could look into is self-directed IRA for RE investments. Now that RE is now and DOW is back >10,000, a lot of people are worried about inflation and looking to RE and gold as a hedge. There are many companies that deal with self-directed IRA's, you can look them up and see if you can go work for them (Pensco, Entrust, etc). This is a huge untapped market that will probably grow as investors become more savvy about their 401k/IRA options.

Not only that. The cellphone system in the Philippines is more advanced than in the US. Just buy a sim card, pop it in and call the entire world. In the US they have 'plans" and if you buy a prepaid, you need to activate it and the process is long- I had to call several times and punch in some weird numbers all to just use a cheap phone to call. Text messages often do not reach overseas. And you still need to call some 800 number to call overseas with these prepaid phones.

In the Philippines so many places have WI FI. Even MacDonalds has the WI FI.

But Hollywood keeps convincing Americans that everything is OK by showing all these Asian or other countries where people ride buffaloes and donkeys and have no cars, where they live in mud huts, etc. Everything is OK, we are still number one. Yeah right!

First off, gordan, you stink like a snitch. Your lucky I dont run this forum or your shit would be all kinds of gone. Quit your baiting and crawl back under your rock. Also, do the world a favor and blow your brains out for good measure.

Anyhow, the most important reason why you dont want to live in America? America has the highest per capita rate of imprisonment in the entire world. More then China, more then Russia. Every day in America, nearly a million cops wake up with only one thought on their minds. Putting your ass in jail, ruining your life, and killing you if possible. They dont care how they do it. The have entire armies of snitches, hundreds in each county, and they will plant drugs or use their snitches to set you up on bogus charges.

The rampant and pervasive police state insanity makes it virtually impossible to live in America unless you are well and truly an emasculated slave.

The USA is heaven on earth for any woman on this planet.

If I were so inclined, and I am NOT, I would tell women I cared about who lived abroad that they should move to the USA using any means necessary.

The legal, social, cultural, financial, educational entitlements that favour women are so egregiously over the top that the USA can rightly be referred to as a Gynocracy. A woman who moves to the USA can game the system and easily with little work be living an upper middle class lifestyle within a few years of moving.

To go from $200 a month back home to $10,000 a month in the USA is something that any materialistic woman would readily seek out.

The flip side is that any man I knew as a friend I would discourage from moving to America. The chances are very high that he will spend decades of toil and hard work in isolation with few friends and fewer lovers.

It just isn't worth it anymore, unless one is immensely greedy and simply "wants a better life" and is willing to do anything to get all of those precious consumer goods that they want.

Your right my friend, the USA is HEAVEN on earth for women. Where else in the world are fat women and ugly women being asked out by guys who rich and good looking? No wonder why you never hear women in the US complain about the dating scene! LOL :D
