Their ... demeanour is invariably morose, sullen, clownish and repulsive. I should think there is not, on the face of the earth, a people so entirely destitute of humour, vivacity, or the capacity of enjoyment. -- Charles Dickens

I believe that the heaviest blow ever dealt at liberty's head will be dealt by this nation [the United States] in the ultimate failure of its example to the earth. -- Charles Dickens

I accuse the United States of being in a constant state of crime against humanity. -- Henry de Montherlant

Catholicism has made man stupid, but it has not degraded him; it has introduced as many good and beautiful things as bad things. The United States have simply degraded humanity. Catholicism has done less harm in two thousand years than the United States in two hundred. -- Henry de Montherlant

It was wonderful to find America, put perhaps it would have been more wonderful to miss it. -- Mark Twain

The American has no language. He has dialect, slang, provincialism, accent and so forth. -- Rudyard Kipling

America ... where laws and customs alike are based on the dreams of spinsters. -- Bertrand Russell

In America everybody is of the opinion that he has no social superiors, since all men are equal, but he does not admit that he has no social inferiors. -- Bertrand Russell

I heard an Englishman, who had been long resident in America, declare that in following, in meeting, or in overtaking, in the street, on the road, or in the field, at the theatre, the coffee-house, or at home, he had never overheard Americans conversing without the word DOLLAR being pronounced between them. Such unity of purpose ... can ... be found nowhere else, except... in an ant's nest. -- Frances Trollope

The United States is an illegitimate country, just like Israel. It has no right to exist. That country belongs to the Red man, the American Indian... It's actually a shame to be a so-called American, because everybody living there is a usurper, an invader taking part in this crime, which is to rob the land, rob the country and kill all the American Indians. -- Bobby Fischer

The United States is evil. It has to be brought down, it has to be eliminated from the world scene. They are the ones who have made the world the hell that it is. -- Bobby Fischer

One of the worst terrorist states in the world. -- Noam Chomsky

The US is a business-run huckster society, and its primary value is deceit. -- Noam Chomsky

The United States is evil. -- Henry de Montherlant

America is the greatest of opportunities and the worst of influences. -- George Santayana

There is nothing redeemable about America. -- Ewuare Osayande

We believe the worst thieves in the world today and the worst terrorists are the Americans. -- Osama bin Laden

Russians take your freedom, but Americans steal your soul. -- anonymous German

The big Satan is a big liar. -- Iranian chief of intelligence

They are possibly the dumbest people on the planet. -- Michael Moore

The percentage of mentally disturbed people in the United States is very high. From the time the American gets up in the morning, he feels as if someone is trying to influence his will in some way: he is a person with a thousand pressures. The Americans live under a great strain ... and have great feelings of frustration. -- Fidel Castro

The essential American soul is hard, isolate, stoic and a killer. -- D.H. Lawrence

I believe the United States is a truly monstrous force in the world. -- Harold Pinter

The United States of America is a threat to world peace. -- Nelson Mandela

Our every action is a battle cry against imperialism, and a battle hymn for the people's unity against the great enemy of mankind: the United States of America. -- Che Guevara

America is a lunatic asylum. -- Ezra Pound

[the US] ... cultivates no origin or mythical authenticity; it has no past and no founding truth ... it lives in a perpetual present. [in the US] everything human is artificial. The country is without hope. What is arresting here is ... both the absence of architecture in the cities and the dizzying absence of emotion and character in the faces and bodies. -- Jean Baudrillard

The Yanks are by far the most cretinous creatures on the planet. -- Poiuytr

The Americans are the living refutation of the Cartesian axiom, "I think, therefore I am": Americans do not think, yet they are. The American 'mind', puerile and primitive, lacks characteristic form and is therefore open to every kind of standardization. -- Julius Evola

The much-vaunted sex appeal of American women is drawn from films, reviews and pin-ups, and is in large print fictitious. A recent medical survey in the United States showed that 75% of young American women are without strong sexual feeling and instead of satisfying their libido they seek pleasure narcissistically in exhibitionism, vanity, and the cult of fitness and health in a sterile sense. -- Julius Evola

To all organic conceptions of life Americans oppose a mechanistic conception. In a society which has 'started from scratch', everything has the characteristic of being fabricated. In American society appearances are masks, not faces. At the same time, proponents of the American way of life are hostile to personality. -- Julius Evola

America is form opposed to content. Not just form instead of content. Form opposed. Often violently. There are few things resented so much among us as the suggestion that what we do means. Other cultures have argued over their meanings. We tend to deny that there is any such thing, insisting instead that what you see is what you get and that's it. All we're doing is having a good time, all we're doing is making a buck, all we're doing is enjoying the spectacle. Media is the American war on content with all the stops out, with meaning in utter rout, frightened nuances dropping their weapons as they run. -- Michael Ventura

How to get people to vote against their interests and to really think against their interests is very clever. It's the cleverest ruling class that I have ever come across in history. It's been two hundred years at it. It's superb. -- Gore Vidal

" [the Americans] deliberately do not want to live the truth. They know what the truth is ... but do not want to accept it but instead live a lie. The entire country is one giant lie. Their insistence on being sham and phony ... contributes to the high incidence of mental illness in the country. It makes people stressed out; it takes a whole lot of energy to pretend being what one is not; pretending being a false ideal of the self exhausts people and leads to their collapse." -- Ozodi Thomas Osuji

Of course I did. They are largely the quotes of the lost. Plenty wrong with the USA to be found, but a medieval death cult leader like OBL is not someone I would quote with pride. You drip with arrogance and you are a coward. You speak like someone who has NEVER even set foot in the USA, so you really cannot critique it intelligently. And you call me arrogant? I live mostly overseas, and have been in more countries than you can count, and there is PLENTY to critique on the USA, but your silly myopic contrivance exposes you as the arrogant one. As I recall your last quote of the idiotic Russian nationalist line (Which is a shame, because so many Russians are quite intelligent)
You are simply a troll...flame on...but I will not have to wait long...you will soon be mocked by others...

Austrailia. In which case the natives who lived there for 50,000 years prior to the colonists abrogates his above quotes.

England/Europe. I haven't gotten into a discussion with a European lately about how America sucks, but if I did I would simply mention this:

"Why would any nation hold up as an exemplar a continent of nations that tried to kill everyone twice in a 15 year period? Such a group of nations would make a terrible moral, ethical, cultural or legal example to any society."

This is, simply put, overlooked in any history of Europe. Bluntly put, Europe is not worthy of admiration, not after 1914-1918 and 1933-1945.

But I have never seen this expressed, ever, anywhere. I do know that Germans consider themselves uniquely qualified to point out errors of genocide, but is that wise? Making the foxes the moral guardians of the chicken coop AFTER their ancestral foxes killed and ate all the chickens? Same for the USA being the gatekeeper of nuke tech worldwide, and the USA is the only nation ever to explode nukes in combat over targets.

It just doesn't make logical sense. Moral leaders DO NOT engage in the behaviour people want to discourage.

I'm not sure what you mean by "quotes of the lost". Most of these were written by learned men known internationally. Perhaps, if you read carefully, many of the quotes were stated by Americans themselves.

For someone who refers to Peruvian women as "monkeys" and the women of Guatemala as the ugliest on Earth, you have a lot of nerve calling me arrogant and a coward. For your information, the latter was another sequential victim of US imperialism, starting in the 1950s.

You do realize that most of the world, especially Russians, perceives you Americans as the worst cowards, because you attack only nations that are completely defenseless and degraded by years of sanctions, like the case of Iraq. And, you make up bullshit reasons and complicated lies to justify your heinous attack. You travel ten thousand kilometers to deliver ten thousand cruise missiles in one night to kill sleeping children in Baghdad, and give thousands of elderly folks heart attacks. You are truly a terrorist nation, probably the worst in all of human history.

At home, you're no better, and always rely on your lawyer, and like to threaten people with the pistol.

Would you like it if I called your women "ugly, hideous-looking cuntrags?" Because that's what most of them are. UGLY! And the worst part is, they're ugly on the inside, and have nothing but scrambled eggs between their ears.

Don't assume ANYTHING!!! You don't know me, have never met me, and you don't know how many countries to which I have traveled. For you to boast the number of countries you've visited sounds immature and childish, and at worst fulfills the very stereotype of the ugly American.

And if I am mocked by others, let it be. But don't speak for them. You are not them.

Haha...at least we can agree on that...but they are not "My women" and the quote about Peruvian women? I don't know where you got that, but I find many Peruvian women pleasant and agreeable. And my comments about Guatemalan women? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...or not. You paint a list of quotes that draws all Americans as the devil incarnate and accuse others of being arrogant? What would that make YOU? The Ugly Aussie?
From your comment I might gather that you did travel within the USA...I would think that you would have observed that quite a few American women many even be attractive...but most likely it is only skin deep...and the poor fool who falls for their charms will regret
it bitterly. You see, I might even end up agreeing with you about something...
If you are from Australia, perhaps I could collect a list of quotes that defined you as an aborigine killing, sheep chasing, beer drunk, and a decedent of convicts who now spends his time molesting children in Thailand...I am sure that fits the bill for some Aussies...so how would you react if I painted all Aussies as being just that? Australia is evil...etc etc...Well I am willing to consider Aussies on on individual basis...what about you? There is never an argument or position too absurd that a "learned man" cannot be attached to it.
The USA is perhaps in a terminal decline. Significant remnant portions of the population will end up elsewhere and the world will
re-align. What happens in Asia? That could be anyone's guess. Smaller Asian countries may become vassal states to China. What would Australia become? Australia could hardly stand up to China on it's own..and it is sitting on all those resources...good thing it is
not my problem...

For you to mention "you don't know how many countries to which I have traveled" is also immature and childish.

You want a debate? You got one, if you chose to stay and discuss. Or, as your posting history suggests, you might leave for another 4 weeks, return with one post, then leave again. You are likely a Russian Nationalist who is widely traveled, or a Russian or Chinese .Gov employee whose job it is to undermine US ideology. I see your kind on Facebook, YouTube and other fora.

I look forward to an intellectually honest debate where you cannot rely upon the words of others and must rely upon your own wits.

Shall we?

I think you may have a long wait....you caught the usage..."and you don't know how many countries to which I have traveled." certainly sounds like a well schooled ESL individual...and you spotted the "hit and run" style...while it would be interesting if he would
out himself and engage you in real debate. One that would pose the list of quotes he offered as some kind of portrait of America ( or of anywhere else for that matter) certainly comes across as a crude propagandist, hence my original diagnosis. I would like to be proven wrong.

What is ironic is that I currently consider the US to be more like what he believes than not.

It is the blindness to other nations similar behaviour that irks me. Russians ignore the gulags, Europeans gloss over the wars, Chinese ignore their human rights, etc.

Gentlemen, let's be civil. I think these quotes touched someone's love of his country to the quick. All nation states are imperfect and I bet we can find the same quotes about every nation. Most of the quotations about the US presented here were a bit bitter and arrogant but they were impressions - and only negative ones. My view on the US is that it has great professional and educational opportunities bot for some people it is not complete and those people should add a few more countries to the USA to live a complete life and avoid the aspects of the US which they do not like.
The people making bad comments about the US probably went back to where they came from and lived happily there. Just like many Americans who went to Europe and did not like it and talked about the miserable French and the nasty whining Brits etc and went back home.
Basically we are here to see how we, US citizens can gain more out of life in terms of social opportunities while we can also criticize life back home. I guess we just do not like for others to criticize us, just like they do not want us to criticize them.
Anyway, my point is, do not take these so much to heart. Let's concentrate on dating!

Here are more balanced quotes, by the way:

Ladislav-

Do you really think this guy has the slightest interest in anything about meeting women abroad? Of course not. As the USA is now, I don't love it much. What is so annoying is that he is hack spewing the same idiocy I hear all the time from Euro-trash in Latin America and SE Asia, and it is not political discourse, it is personal attack and intended as such. Even Germans tire of hearing mindless people
assume that they are somehow personally attached to the genocides of the Jews and others, when in fact they might have been born 20 years after it was all over, but they are supposed to be somehow personally responsible. Globetrotter's diagnosis of who this guy likely is, is a good bet. Any gentlemen here are being civil- what makes you think this guy is any kind of a gentleman? He does not in any way expose himself as to his perspective, and simply throws out these ignorant rants, and we should think him a gentleman? For a man who does not even introduce himself? Of course he is a troll- that is pretty obvious. I thought troll ass-kicking was an acceptable amusement...
