New USA Healthcare Legislation...

Guns are illegal here so that probably makes up for a large part of your health/police services spending right there.

Correction:

Guns are only illegal FOR PRIVATE CITIZENS.

The police have access to guns. So does the army.

History is full of examples of the general public being disarmed and then years later the powers that be round people up and mow them down.

Happens all the time.

Why anyone trusts their Government is beyond me.

There is nothing you could do if the laws of Canada changed and suddenly they began to round up people and shoot you. Without a way to shoot back, you are helpless. Hey, if the majority voted on it, then it is ok and legal, right?

It means that you are a Subject, not a Freeman Citizen.
It means that the Gov't decides what Rights to bestow upon you rather than The People decide what limited powers that the Gov't has.

I was recently in Canada for six months and can confirm the Canadians like their healthcare. I also felt bad when I had to buy drugs by cash, and they had to process me specially because Canadians just sign and get their medications. I was also in the Netherland for several years, and their healthcare was good. You were given a choice of clinics within your postal code, and you would choose a clinic and was assigned a Huisart - a general physician who would take care of you. I am now in Mexico and as soon as I get my residence permit, I am eligible for Mexican Health Insurance for $250 a year. Only in America, is univeral healthcare considered a radical idea. Really backwards thinking.

It is about American Greed and power. There was something I read which I could probably search for and post here (though few would read it since it is a book length article), which blamed the way the USA insurance system is structured on the IRS. They want to tax everything, including health benefits. (Actually now I believe this new law is making this so.)

The USA isnt about helping its citizens. It is about money and political power. Advancing the Communist Agenda and wiping out the conservatives. This means many people have to die. It also means that many people will be barred from upward financial mobility. All in the name of Communism, so that the state can raise the family, and the result will be the communist utopia. Unfortunately communism in practice is really totalitarianism by the elites who eventually will wind up killing each other anyway.

You had better hope that you are wrong because if you are right you better begin saving for your own National Defence. A broke USA is a USA without 13 carrier groups. Good luck with that with a huge NHS style budget to fund AND an increased defence budget.

The USA is broke but think of a world where the USA is forced to withdraw militarily due to budgetary constraints. Imagine a world where the Chinese and Russians have the most military might and the USA has 3 carrier groups and few SSN's.

I am certain you won't like it one bit when the Thai or Chinese carrier group comes calling in Vancouver and the Americans cannot help out.

But you will likely get your way and if I am alive I will be the first to tell you and the Europeans who wished for a diminished and "more peaceful" America that 'I told ya so!'. I will be working in Asia and watching as NA swirls down the bowl.

I'm guessing you've never been to Vancouver because the whole place was invaded by the Chinese 15 years ago... and Ontario I bet is at least half middle eastern (arab, pakistani, indian)... If they bomb us they're more than likely going to take out half their population. :)

Globetrotter your country lost the war against Mexico long ago. I was just in San Franscisco and I would bet at least 60% of California is Mexican now not mention Arizona and Texas. They don't need to point guns, to win wars anymore... and the chinese won this country over long ago.

I have lived in Vancouver. I am referring to the Chinese showing up and forcing BC (as one example) to ship it's timber all to China and forcing you to send your assets there as well. WITHOUT PAYING FOR IT.

You have lived overseas, you know that NA Chinese or Mexicans are nothing like Chinese or Mexicans back home. They are different people with different attitudes and values. In NA people err like this and refer to a Canadian-Chinese immigrant as "Chinese", especially 2nd+ generation. To do so is just intellectual folly. They are Canadians with Chinese parents. They are not Chinese.

They don't need to point guns, to win wars anymore... and the chinese won this country over long ago.

Only a nation that has never had a war on its soil could have this delusion as a value. The history of Civilisation over the past 10,000 years is full of examples that eventually someone wants what you have, you disagree, and then they begin shooting at you to take it. Just because Canada was founded by pro-Crown English settlers and disinterested French settlers, and just because you negotiated with a post-WWII weakened Britain for independence and just because you have negotiatied with you Indians to repatriate "their land", does not refute millenia of human history. You guys got lucky, even luckier than those in the States, and you have been able to indulge yourselves.

Social Democracies such as the EU, NZ and Canada are a historical and financial aberration that are coming to an end because you cannot afford what you want the .Gov to give you. Republic's like the USA are collapsing under their own debt as well.

Eventually you run out of other people's money.

To see the future of neo-socialist capitalism look to Asia. The tax levels (very low) and social services available (very few) are what you have to look forward to in the EU, USA, NZ and Canada. I have read the stories about the ballooning Canadian HC system costs. I have seen the growth charts. Eventually exponents will get us all.

In the context of a complex society, I'm not opposed to some degree of publically funded health care which takes care of traumatic accidents or some basic stuff. However, at the hospital where I work, I see HUNDREDS of people on a weekly basis who are morbidly obese due to bad lifestyle choices. Quite frankly, these people do not have a "right" to my labor due to their choices.

I could see this coming.

That is why I expated.

My tax burden is -0- to $91,400 USD.

Very low rate to 20,000 CNY per month, then 20% only.

20k CNY per month is a huge sum, rich rich rich.

It's an internal struggle between the NY Banksters, the Communists, and the Zionists. These are our elite factions. Sometimes they cooperate, sometimes they merely try not to piss each other off too much, and sometimes they conspire.

Honestly GlobeTrotter you are arguing with the wrong person... I'm just stating a bit of info about the Canadian system vs American system... The biggest war has already been fought and won on both Canadian and American soil (or lost depending on how you look at it).. no I'm not talking about WWII.

Feminists have managed to brainwash at least 95% of North America into somehow believing that men are useless idiots. I really don't think health care is the biggest issue here. I think the countries will collapse shortly because of the absence of strong family values and the destruction of the family unit. I'm not patriotic at all, in fact I can't even speak my mind here without some woman or minority telling me that I'm out of line and threatening to call the police, just look at what the manginas, feminazi's and PC minorities did with Ann Coulter's speech... imagine living that everyday.

This ship is sinking and the only thing left to do is swim for shore before the waters are completely shark infested.

Sorry... I'm off on a tangent here... where were we?

Right, about the 2nd, 3rd Gen immigrants... you are right, I am wrong... if I've learned anything from travel its that a woman of Mexican descent who lives in the West does not equal a Mexican woman. (true for all immigrants)

* Approx. 22% of Canadian households own at least one firearm, but only 2.3% own a handgun. Canada has strict controls on handguns and you need to obtain a restricted license to own one. But anyone who thinks Canadians don't own guns are delusional, please watch "trailer park boys".

* The total defense budget for USA in 2010 will be somewhere between $880 billion to $1.03 trillion USD. This figure will represent over 25% of US Federal government spending in 2010. It's a lot of money, but still far less than what we spent during the Cold War era in % GDP.

* USA's military expenditure is about the same as the rest of world's military spending combined. This represents the high cost of a forward-deployed military posture and strong emphasis on naval battle groups. The cost of constructing an aircraft carrier has risen from $4.5 billion for a Nimitz class to $9+ billion for Ford class.

Naval ships take a lot of punishment at sea and require costly maintenance and overhauls. The operating cost alone will add up to many billions of dollars. But since our aircraft carriers have estimated operating lifespan of up to 50 years, it's actually a good deal (more bang for the buck) compared to USN cruisers (Virginia & Ticonderoga class) & Spruance class destroyers that got scrapped after only ~20 years of use.

* Canadian health care systems works if you live in areas with good access, and your health issue is not dental related. My Canadian friends come to US to see a dentist and pay cash. Every system has its good and bad points, you just find ways to work with it.

* One very important aspect of the US health care reform is prohibiting the insurance company to deny you coverage (and charge unreasonably rates) for pre-existing health conditions. This is a non-issue for most of you, but if you have relatives with heart conditions or lupus, it's a life saver.

* The US is able to maintain its momentum by both domestic resources and importing he best and brightest from abroad. You can measure a country's success by the number of foreign students studying there. During China's Tang dynasty, royalty from neighboring countries sent their children to China to be educated. Even during the late Ming Dynasty era, Manchu royalty employed Ming Chinese tutors for their children. China stopped being ahead when its wealthy families started sending their kids (my grandfather) to Japan for advanced education.

Predictions of America's downfall are greatly exaggerated. When foreign students stop coming here, you can start panicking. If I ever see that happen, I'll convert my assets to gold and take the next boat out.

"Number of Foreign Students in US Hits New High
A new report shows that India and China remained the top senders of students last year. In all, seven of the ten top countries sent more, just as the recession was worsening."

I've lived in Canada 30 years and I've yet to meet 1 person who has ever owned a gun in their lifetime.

I would bet that 22% is made up of gun nuts, eskimos, oilsands workers and anyone living up near the ice roads that might need to shoot a polar bear or grizzly, otherwise that statistic is pure BS.

I would check out http://www.taxplannercpa.com for this and other topics regarding expat taxes. I found them last tax season - they are an office of US CPAs focused exclusively on the taxation of US Citizens living abroad.
