Conservative, traditionalist countries and regions

Post by Asp »

I have long felt I fit in better and seem to be better accepted by conservative, traditionalist people and cultures. And feel more excluded by liberals. A thought struck me today as to one possible reason why people like me who are incels may be in that situation.

The type of conservatism (or liberalism, as the case may be) I especially have in mind is sexual conservatism/liberalism - how much openness about sex there is. If a society is liberal - especially sexually liberal with much sexual openness, I suspect it's made harder for people who are incels within that society, or maybe even love shy. This would be because where people are very open about sex - there's more openness about people's relationships/sex lives, that everyone should be in relationships or having sex. And opposite to a more sexually repressed society where openness about sex can be seen as deviant - in the more sexually free society, it's NOT having a relationship or romantic life that's seen as deviant. If someone in that society is incel they are then vulnerable to being identified as deviant. And they can be easily labelled... you know what I mean... by conjectured sexual explanations for the person's situation.

Maybe, on the other hand, it's not as big a deal in a society that's more sexually repressed?

How true do you think this is?

What's an "incel"?

Conservative countries? Sexually, politically, fiscally, morally, religiously?

Need a little more detail.

Many of the former/current communist countries come to mind (China, Vietnam, Russia, Romania, etc.). The Communists frowned on sexual promiscuity, as do the countries where religion is still very influential. Although Russia has a seedy underbelly, the "normal" citizens are rather conservative and would be shocked by promiscuity.

Italy, despite the Vatican being within it's territory, tends to be a bizarre mix. They have nude women on poster ads everywhere, but you won't find topless women at many beaches, except very isolated ones. On the other hand, they have (in my opinion hideous) prostitutes that stand all over the side roads at night and you have to watch out so you don't run over them. The Vatican has enough influence that Italy won't tolerate/institute & tax bordellos, but you can find meet-up points for transvestite and gay sex workers everywhere and prostitutes all over the roads and street corners. Go figure. One of the many paradoxes one finds in Italy.

If I may step out on a limb here: in America sexuality is primarily promoted through innuendo, such as in s(h)itcoms. Direct and overt nudity is forbidden, however the hardest pornography comes from the US. We seem to have a very schizophrenic attitude towards sex here.

In Europe for example, sex is viewed more as a normal aspect of life and nothing to be ashamed of, but it's commercialized ad nauseum. Personally, I am a religious person and feel there needs to be a happy medium between the US and Europe. In many countries, they just don't think about it, and don't view sex in a "sexual" way, as we do in the West. There, sex is just part of the natural process of procreating and surviving. They don't turn it into something "nasty", "deviant", or "evil". From a religious perspective, I view sex a beautiful and natural thing that one should not be ashamed of. At the same time, I don't think it should be flaunted and treated as a weapon, a tool to manipulate others, or to sell ice cream.

Get where I'm coming from?

Was thinking sexually, over and above anything else. An incel is an abbreviated term for someone who is involuntarily celibate.... someone who wishes to form romantic or sexual relationships, but cannot do so or has great challenges doing so.
