In Firefox browser go to Tools > Add-ons
or just go here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... -security/
-NoScript (no more hijacking/pop-ups)
There's more you can get, including adware scanners & anti-virus (outside of firefox) but that's good for a start.
Keep No Script in disabled mode if you're going to sites with flash, use it on annoying sites.
And turn blocking on in Ghostery, that'll show those advertisement companies.
If you're not using Firefox, get a clue.
I also recommend switching to linux, if not as your primary OS then at least as an option on a dual-boot setup (you must create 2-4 partitions on your hard drive so you can select windows/linux at start-up). I have never seen a single advertisement on this site and if there was malware, it wouldn't harm me what so ever. If you don't want to bother with resizing hard disks you can try a linux distro on a usb pen drive, which won't be any slower than win 7 which seems to get bogged down very quickly with the average user.
Check out Fedora or Linux Mint (Ubuntu) if you have a decent computer (P4 & up)
Peppermint OS or Lubuntu if you have a fairly old computer (like 1-2ghz, 256mb ram)
Slitaz if you have a really old computer (Pentium 2 64mb ram or something)
or many other flavours of linux..
For the record if you need a new computer I recommend AMD's, you can build a solid one for $300.
