My experience of the US, other observations and questions.
My experience of the US, other observations and questions.
I recently visited New York city for 5 days from Dublin, Ireland.
I arrived off the plane to Spain-like sunshine, firstly noticing such casual differences as how people drove on the opposite side of the road and the racial diversity that existed among them. Such things I expected. But my observances went deeper and less foreseeable as my trip progressed. I began my tour in typical fashion with a stroll down times square, in total awe of the size of the buildings that surrounded me.
I drink a lot so there is no chance I will be able to document the one night I went to bars with as much detail as I did my first paragraph, so I'll have to do so more briefly. I went from bar to bar, paying an outrageous 7 dollars per pint, approaching as many women as possible. I was shocked at the amount of women I was flat out ignored by. Approximately, I approached around 20 women that night, 10 rejected the shit out of me and with 9 I chatted casually without it going anywhere. The last was a hot (by Irish standards, probably average by American) 24 year-old woman that seemed to take an interest. She ended up asking if she could come to my hotel. As I was sleeping rough this was not possible. I asked if I could come back with her and she replied how she lived with her parents. I hugged her and pecked her on the lips and that was that. I noticed how I was able to be as confident as I felt like and not be bothered by rejection in the slightest.
From my experience, many of the reflections Winston has documented about America seem chillingly true. At least in New York. If you stand on the footpath (sidewalk) Downtown and casually greet average people going about their day, 99 out of 100 individuals will stroll on past without giving you any acknowledgment. The remaining 1% would awkwardly nod or give a placid "hi" or "hey". The homeless were completely different. They held no judgment and were always willing to help you whenever you were in need. On the streets I met some of the most down to earth people I ever have. A group of mostly 30-50 year olds that took me in and were eager to ensure nothing happened to me. Why is it in New York city, the poor seem to be the good guys and the rich the bad guys? It feels like such a safe city, yet the average people are unbelievably paranoid.
To sum up my trip: America probably is the hardest country to meet women. But just like anywhere, it is entirely possible if you possess the confidence to do so. It seems there are so many things in our childhood that dispossess us of the ability to be ourselves in our native environment. Those who retain their ability seem to usually be egotistical asshole types. I have found that in a foreign environment, the slate is wiped clean. You feel uninhibited by negative previous experiences. These are my opinions based on my experiences. Feel free to disagree and input yours.
Anyway, thanks for reading. Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

was going to be so grand and American men on here were just saying negative things for shits and giggles. Now, you see what men on here are talking about. It's not an illusion.
There are good women here in America, but they are hard to find. Oh, they won't be in bars and clubs. That's your main mistake.
Oh well. Thanks for sharing!

Well if one girl wanted to go home with you then you did good. The last time I was in Manhattan, none of the girls in the bars would talk to me or my friend.
No American girl ever asked if she could go back to my place, unless she was a prostitute.
Why didn't you take that 24 year old with you to a hotel?
Why were you homeless in NY? What kind of a trip was that?
How would you compare approaching girls in Ireland?
I'm moving this thread to the trip reports section.

It was an Irish pub, she was an Irish American. It's a commonly known fact that being actually Irish around Irish American women entitles you to more p***y than Bill Gates in Angeles city. In normal hip type bars no one gave a shit about what country I was from, only how I looked and dressed, I was wearing a hoodie, Nuff said.Winston wrote:Well if one girl wanted to go home with you then you did good. I wasn't motivated enough to spend $100+ of my $400 on a hotel to bring her to as I had gotten an escort the night before to ensure I wouldn't be so sexually motivated/frustrated if nothing happened. Dick in p***y is dick in p***y no matter where you go. I wanted to experience something culturally different. By being homeless in New York city I got this. It was a life-changing experience. I met some great friends there, only homeless ones of course. Really interesting people. Unlike the drone types I had met in the bars. They invited me to stay there and teach me to hustle. As tempting as it was, all round I knew it would realistically turn out to be a very bad choice.

Spot on! And your post reminds me of what a homeless person said on video that I saw on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xN6nNJvbw3klavezzi wrote:

NYC, or the East Coast in general, is the WORSE place to be homeless stateside (IMO), even more so if you're a male.lavezzi wrote: It was an Irish pub, she was an Irish American. Approaching girls in Ireland is different. They will usually be decent enough to respond to you, but will only be interested in you if you are super-confident and fit the ideal personality society tells them to want. To summarize, they're more polite but probably more picky.
Why?
• Because it get's wet and COLD for at least 4-5 months out of the year, and in fact many homeless people die of exposure.
• The average person in the East Coast could care less that you're homeless because the East Coast mainly consist of cold hearted, money chasing, aggressive white/black people who have no other frame of cultural reference, therefore they think homelessness is normal, unlike on the WEST where there is a large Latino population that brings along the old South American culture that provides a safety net for millions of people who you will never see fall back on. In other words, putting aside the drug cartels, South American culture is more humane and helpful towards poor people.
• The East Coast is a dirty, filthy, rat and cockroach infested cesspool.
• The East Coast is overcrowded and has deteriorating infrastructure. For example the pipes and electrical systems around NYC goes back to the early 1900's. The city of NYC is in limbo because even though it still works it needs to be updated and fixed.
• There are no fruit trees or places where you can go to pick your own fruit or fish so you can eat out in the wild. Deer meat is the only thing I know that you might be able to hunt and eat otherwise everything is trucked in so you need money to buy your food.
Anyhow, I could never understand why people would allow themselves to be homeless in the big cities. At least move to FL, CA, or HI where you can take free showers at the beach, and weather is warm all year around, it's just one less problem.

Ernst & Young @ 5 Time Square is a client of mine. I can attest that the hotels are expensive ($200-$400/night) in that area. Generally speaking people in urban cities are less friendly than rural areas. When I was in Paris, people did not greet me as they walked by, but when I was in Chiny Les Roses, people walking by would say Bon Appitite when they see me eat a baguel. In the US, when I'm dining in smaller towns, sometimes the locals/customers would say "enjoy your meal/dinner" on their way out. That never happens in Los Angeles or San Diego.
If you're traveling on a budget, there are options such as couch surfing, hostels, and craiglist. Roughing it with the homeless is not safe when weather turns worse. I've personally observed homeless people die overnight in Downtown Los Angeles by 5th & Olive (park across from So Cal Gas Tower) and get carried away on a gurney in the morning.

I never stated or believed that in New York the quality of women would be better or that they would be more approachable or less stuck up. I just said they would be easier for me to have sexual encounters with because I could act more confident and try harder. This and what I had learned about American women being turned on by an Irish accent.E_Irizarry wrote:@Phoenix Sosa,

If you need to get laid in the states your better off going to a larger city in the southern part of the states. The girls will be a bit easier there. North East girls are frigid, you gotta live there a while to get with any. Go to Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Miami, Dallas, Houston, etc. Places like that with large populations and decent nightlife in a warm environment.

lavezzi,
I believe has Momopi was saying, you could have stayed in a hostel. I think for me to go to a hostel (in Manhattan, I think) was like 20 Euros/night. It is not too bad as most are reasonable. I think you could have done this and possibly had sex with the Irish American girl.
NYC is a decent city to visit but it is expensive and yes although having different cultures, usually the American women suck there as in the capital city of Washington DC.
I was thinking since you are around Europe, I think you could have saved money by going to eastern Europe and met girls easier from there. I do know that Ireland and the UK suck to find good girls. Hopefully, you had a good time in New York (beyond not having a place to rest).

To lavezzi:
Why didn't you stay in a hostel? On Hostels.com, there are some hostels in NY for $25.
Did you plan to be homeless before you arrived there? You got a lot of guts. Have you hung out with the homeless in Dublin before?

I think he said in his last post that he found out she was HIV positive AFTER they had sex, when he visited her hometown and found that out from her nephew. He didn't know about it beforehand.E_Irizarry wrote:@lavezzi,
Not to blatantly disrespect you, but you sound like Irish trash. Smoking crack...going bareback with a woman with HIV on purpose.....
I know I f**k raw, but damn at least I don't smoke crack nor go raw into a woman that I know had HIV ahead of time - especially when I know she does crack and looks like she has a non-discovered strand of HIV yet to be known to man.
You don't have a care in the world. Why go abroad with such a trashy western demeanor that you have?? Just stay in the Anglosphere and live it up until you D.O.A.

Those prices are for hostel dorm rooms that you share with other people. Private rooms in a hostel cost a lot more.
