Hey, Winston!
Thanks for your mention about my mention! As I said in our private emails, I was really excited about finding your site. It echoes the sentiment of a lot of the men and women I've met who've found new leases on life by stepping out of the prevailing paradigm they were once trapped in. "Do you know about happierabroad.com?" is s now a conversation starter with just about everyone I meet!

Check this out.

I'm corresponding with this Jamaican guy named Walt Goodridge. He is an online entrepreneur, traveler, freethinker and freedom junkie like me. He is also a self-help motivation coach who teaches people how to turn their passion into profit - hence he coined the phrase "Passionpreneur". That's just what we need here, since many of us are looking for a way of making a living overseas and becoming free of the system. See his website and books at:

Read about his escape from America:

Here is his exciting blog about his travels in China.

Here is a PDF you can download that chronicles his experience in China, with pictures and travelogues.

When I asked him if he experienced any racism in China, here was his reply:
1. It's true that the most helpful people I met during my time
in China (finding me cheap hotels, giving me
directions, recommending vegan restaurants) were couchsurfers,
I specifically chose those people for their helpfulness and
and resources. However, I'm sure there are couchsurfing girls who are just
as interested in meeting someone as guys are, and
at the very least, they can help you meet other girls
who may be interested. It's been my experience, especially
as an obvious foreigner, that being seen walking around town
with a Chinese girl (or guy) makes me even more approachable
by other girls. I wouldn't rule it out as an indirect source of
dating contacts.

2. As I mentioned in my Traveling While Black essay, I'm sure
there is racism against Blacks. However, I didn't experience any.
If we assume there are 100 people in a room, say 50 of them will
be fascinated and love to get to know a Black person, and 50 will not because
of racism.

The fact is, I'll never meet that other 50% because I'm too busy
having fun with the 50% who are smiling at me, telling me they
like my big eyes, giving me their QQ numbers,
telling me they think my skin is sexy, asking to be my friend,
following me around town, reaching out to touch me and
pull me to sit next to them on the bus, squealing in delight
upon seeing me and blushing and giggling when I talk
to them. (Winston, I haven't told you the half of it!)
Trust me, you have no idea!

Check out these pics from Walt's blog where he goes to Hainan. It definitely looks like the Chinese women that he met are very approachable and relaxed, as well as the Russian women that he met in China too!

Hey check this out. Walt Goodridge also makes a living from online passive income that allows him to travel the world, by selling his scores of amazing ebooks and books online. He seems like a very interesting guy with a lot of passion, freedom and zest for life.

Here is his book catalogue from his website:

Two of his titles you guys might find relevant to your aims are "Turn Your Passion into Profit" and "Living True to Yourself":

Here is his self-description and websites:

"Once upon a time, there was a Jamaican civil engineer living in New York who hated his job, followed his passion, started a sideline business publishing his own books, made enough money to quit his job, escaped the rat race, ran off to a tropical island in the South Pacific, and started a tourism business so he could give tours of the island to pretty girls every day....and live a nomadpreneur's dream life."

Walt's philosophy is: FREEDOM IS ACHIEVABLE!
Freedom to Profit!
Freedom to Escape!
Freedom to be Ageless!

Wow check this out. It turns out this Walt guy more amazing than I thought. I've been reading more about him. It turns out he's written 20 books, many articles, runs a dozen profitable websites, conducts coaching seminars, been featured in many articles and magazines (including Time), and been interviewed by radio shows. Wow, how can one man do all that? That's very impressive. This is a guy that you can learn a lot from.

He and I have a lot in common. We are both online entrepreneurs, freethinkers, freedom junkies, and vegetarians. He is definitely a kindred spirit. I ought to try to travel around China with him next time he goes. He and I could be an Asian and Black passionpreneur duo, like Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker in "Rush Hour". lol

Check out his articles and you will see how bright and innovative he is, as well as highly passionate, genuine and intelligent.

Listen to his interviews here:

List of news articles about him:

If you Google him, you will find a lot of third party sources praising him and his accomplishments, some of which contain interviews with him - all of which give him a lot of credibility. Some examples:

Time Magazine:

Here are some photos of him when he was young. You can see the look of intelligence and ingenuity on his face.

Here is his interview posted on YouTube. He sounds so knowledgeable, passionate, aware and authentic. It's amazing. People like this are rare and one of a kind.

Yeah his websites are interesting.

About those photos you've posted above, you're not serious about them being in China are you? Wow, I've never seen such clean hotel rooms in China - usually the wallpaper is peeling or the furniture is 150 years old and there are unexplained stains on the carpet!

Well China is a big diverse place. I guess it depends on where you are. lol But yeah, all those photos are from his trip to China.

Besides his websites, his interviews are also interesting and inspiring.

Here is another interview he showed me on KY Radio. It's very inspiring and full of conviction. He sounds like a natural born leader in it.

I don't think someone that stays in $20/day hostels in China is "successful."

The Arab wrote:I don't think someone that stays in $20/day hostels in China is "successful."
Now that's a pretty shallow statement. Why do you think that successful people must be in nice hotels and luxuries? What is your definition of success? The true definition of success is lively freely and doing what you want and what you love - following your passion so to speak.

Walt is doing just that. He is financially independent, doing what he loves, does not have to go to a 9 to 5 job like he did when he was an engineer, travels, and has more freedom than most people do. What could be more successful than that? Would you rather be a 9 to 5 slave and live a stressful life, with no time for enjoyment, just to have a good salary?

You aren't looking at the big picture. Why do you like to bring other people down with cheap shots like that?

Besides, the hostel he stayed in looked nice, clean and comfortable. Isn't that all that matters? There's nothing wrong with living simply and frugally, especially if you have freedom. Not everyone likes to waste money. Also, in hostels you can meet people too. They are usually an inclusive atmosphere. You can form friendships, find traveling companions, and sometimes find dates there to. I've met some of the most intellectual people in hostels that I've ever met.

Bottom line is that he's happy, passionate, free, and helps and inspires others. To me, that is the measure of success.

He's not just another guy. Random guys running around the world do not usually have the credentials he does. They are not featured in Time magazine like Walt was. See here:

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/artic ... 95,00.html

They do not write 20 books and operate a dozen profitable websites and coin unique terms such as "Passionpreneur". It takes a special person with a drive for innovation and ingenuity to do things like that.

Also, random guys running around do not get commended by Senates for their accomplishments and contributions, such as Walt has. See here:

Listen to his interviews and you will see how passionate, innovative, and a natural born leader he is.

Winston - I think we covered this in our discussions about Pat from Smart Passive Income.

Pat makes $$$$ online yet wears an old t shirt. Well he's the same as me - I earn around $80K a year but my sweaters have holes in. And one of the Chinese women I dated had a fake designer handbag and pretty average clothes. Yet she makes more than 10x more than me.

Amongst my friends the only ones who like designer gear are those with huge credit card debts. I'd rather save the money and retire 20 years earlier than them, or spend the money on my kids (like Pat does).

Anyway, those hostels look better than the so-called business hotels I've stayed in while in China!
