There's a difference between the superficial confidence you project and the confidence you feel on the inside.

1. Some people project a lot of superficial confidence (they can talk like convincing salesmen) or even swagger, but feel depressed, empty, and very unsure of themselves on the inside. This is often the case with celebrities. Or, salesmen who look extremely sure of themselves on the outside, but actually have absolutely no clue what the heck they're talking about.

2. Some people do not display a lot of superficial salesman-like confidence at first glance, but are very, very confident on the inside. Winston and I would be examples. Or Noam Chomsky, who's not a good public speaker in terms of the way he presents himself, but has true inner confidence and wisdom.

So, I'm not Mr. PUA who can talk like an infomercial salesman. But I have the guts and self-assurance to jump into unfamiliar territory, get to know new people, and go way out of comfort zones.

Superficial appearance of being shaky and nervous-looking with the sophisticated women of Los Angeles or Taipei? Well, it takes a lot of true inner confidence to go deep into very remote villages in rural Mexico and China completely by yourself, where the local cultures and languages are wildly different. And then staying with the folks there as if it's your hometown, and dating the village girls there. In rural villages, people see more deeply into people's true characters and don't focus as intensely on superficial personalities and looks as middle-class big-city folks do. It also takes a lot of self-conviction to go against the flow and do what you want to do in spite of everyone else's disapproval.

AWESOME.

I've definitely grown in confidence in this crazy year abroad. You can see it in Xiongmao vs. the Soi Dogs. I used to be terrified of dogs. But I've had a couple of run-ins with aggressive Thai dogs (another one this night) but once again it is the dogs who have gone off whimpering this time.
I was Happier Abroad for a while but Covid killed that off.

SO do you brandish a stick, or just give them a cold, condescending British stare?
