I am going to piggyback on Ladislav's thread. If you want a second opinion, this is it, coming from someone who was in Ukraine recently, and more than once, and did not limit himself in just Kiev.
Women:
Yes. Like Ladislav said, waitresses do look like that. Waitressing are lower paid jobs, so these are filled by many who came from nearby country towns and villages. The feminity oozing from these women was truly stunning. I had not seen so much feminity in my entire life. Many Ukrainian women have big bosoms, so if you're a boob man, your eyes will hurt because there are 'so much to see'
Some work uniforms expose a lethal dose of cleavage (no, it's not strip club or something dodgy, just normal restaurants). The women usually caught me looking despite I tried not to (you know, I had been femi-conditioned 'not to act rude by staring'). Surprisingly, they take this very positively. One woman in particular served my dinner exclusively, ensuring I have an upclose 'look' at her assets while giving me smiles
Ukrainian women don't fear men. In western countries, the women will try to make sure you keep a distance from them in public places. In Kiev, try take the metro and the funnicular. Hot women pretty much rest on you, no problem at all. I have to warn you mongers though, don't grope them. The image of western men is already very tarnished. Don't make it worse.
Men:
Ukrainian men like to act tough, perhaps a little too much. Gangterism is part of life, not because they choose the thug life, but because the thug life chooses them, courtesy of the sudden Soviet collapse leaving no real politicians but armed thugs, mainly Russian. Corruption is very rampant. Many things can be bought, such as a Ukrainian drivers license, or an EU passport. A big percentage of Ukrainian men look tough and rough, but that doesn't mean they are gangsters. Many are down to earth, and if you get to know them you will see it. In one of my flights I encountered a Ukrainian couple. They shared with me their homemade sandwiches, chocalates and some expensive vodka they bought during the flight. This is something totally disappeared from western world. Hopelessness is the biggest problem grippling the men, and women too. Many men are jobless and scraping by especially in industrial towns, because men choose degrees like engineering that leads to little labour mobility. Many men have already left working in nearby Poland in manual labors bringing the bacon back home.
People in general:
Many locals can look moody and impatient. Overall, the locals are very tired of the gangsterism and corruption that are running wild in the country. To cut this off once and for all, the Russian influence in the corridor of power has to go. I was surprised to see there was pretty much no newspaper even in Kiev! So whatever the people get, they get it from Russian TV. Russian influence was very heavy especially in small towns, but the younger generations in the country has woke up due to the internet, and said enough is enough. Russian TV's are now banned.
Race issues (Black):
I counted 3 black people, only one is a woman who's on a photoshoot. I think this African lady is meant to be on a brochure luring African students to study in Ukraine. The others I think were either students, or Americans thinking they can get an easy lay. I asked the locals, and they told me many black students have fled since Russia invaded. Contrary to what Ladislav said, I do not think blacks are becoming more mainstream. If you watch their version of MTV, you will see a few music videos with a token black guy. But if you go to youtube and watch the same video, you will see racial abuse in cyrillic in the comments section. That philo guy, well he's an actor so he can keep riding that hollywood wave, but black skin is still not commonly accepted. They have a name for black + white mix. It's not the N word though. And I have met locals (young guys) who said it is ok to have black friends, but not ok if they live in the same neighbourhood. Ouch! Indians, having dark skin, also have a history of getting walloped in the street at night. There are practically no indians to be seen on the street.
Race issues (Asian):
Their number is a bit more than blacks. Those I saw are: business / corporate type (from Japan and China usually with hot Ukrainian female translators), uni students (more males than females and usually stick together as many Chinese people do in a foreign country). Many stuff are made in China these days, and Chinese made cars are cheaper and sort of acceptable in Ukraine. I am of East Asian stock myself. I got treated quite well and never experienced any race specific discrimination. I even got a free drink in a restaurant, apparently I was the only one who looked 'foreign'. I never encountered 'that rude Ukrainian service' as many had shared online regardless of race. I also went to a posh bar that made Asian food. My opinion was very highly regarded. There was no real Chinese food, but the Japanese food was quite legit, and made by the locals. The fact that I stopped by Maidan and looking at their stories of the revolution was very appreciated. The locals knew their struggle will now be told when I returned to where I originally came from. I had a Maidaner gave me a tour. I visited the wall with stray bullet holes where snipers started killing civilians. I was also told stories not found in western media. I also walked alone at night, and sometimes accompanied by a local lady. No issues. There were local men pestering p4p and massage on the street especially close to dinner time. One interesting incident is when a big group of far right youths marching near Maidan with torches shouting loud slogans, presumably anti-Russian slogans. They marched right pass me. There was not a single word of racial slur, no weird staring of any kind. There were also soldiers patrolling the streets sometimes. They were indifferent to my presence.
Foreign men:
The image is very tarnished because too many western men are sex-mongering. Turkish men and Italian men have the worst reputation. American comes second worst. The biggest impediment to success with the local women is language and time on the ground. Many local women who can speak English well have already left for greener pastures (ps. getting into EU is easier than you think). What's left is a cottage industry scamming western men. Most Ukrainian women are down to earth, and have dignity. They despise the idea of fleeing by marrying random westerners. And they really hated the cottage industry scamming western men. Many beautiful photos you find online are stolen or simply sold from one party to another. Meet any real Ukrainian women, and they will tell you to stop doing that online thing. You got to have boots on the ground and spend a fair bit of time locally. It only works this way.
