Online Religion Group

Postby fschmidt » Sun Apr 27, 2014 10:20 pm

I am trying to get more organized about having an online religion group. I had "Biblic Judaism" but I have drifted away from mainstream Judaism in my thinking. So first, I want feedback on a new name for the group. I could use my old ActBiblically name. Other options are "BibleFollowers" or "scripturist". The name should convey the idea of a group that actually follows the moral ideas of the Bible. Which do you like best?

In my old "Biblic Judaism" site, I had online Torah readings that followed the traditional Jewish pattern. But since I am moving away from that, I want my own readings to cover the best of the Old Testament. I can leave out family records, engineering instructions, and ritual instructions from the Torah and add the best of the rest of the Old Testament (in my humble opinion) including the most famous stories. Below is my list. What do you think?

Week 1: Genesis 1-4
Week 2: Genesis 6-9
Week 3: Genesis 11-14
Week 4: Genesis 15-17
Week 5: Genesis 18-21
Week 6: Genesis 22-25
Week 7: Genesis 26-29
Week 8: Genesis 30-33

Week 20: Leviticus 11-13

So far so good.

I would add some useful books:

Song of Solomon ( a romance and sex manual for men)

Proverbs (the first self-help/success book)

Wisdom (in the uncensored "Septuagint" Old testament)

Son of Sirach (Jesus Ben-Sirach)(aka "Eccelsiasticus")
(in the uncensored "Septuagint" Old testament)

Also you might add Nehemiah, it's an interesting account of how a corporate or government minion can accomplish good.

Also the censored parts of Daniel are especially useful, specifically "Bel and the Dragon" and the story of Susannah. Jewish "sechl" used to good purpose.
"Pick a point and go to it."

I have some of Proverbs, but what of the above would you have me remove to make room for your additions? My goal is no more than 4 chapters per week for 52 weeks (1 year).

Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated since I want to pick a name soon. I also discussed this here:
