Funny quotes by Mark Twain about heaven.

http://www.twainquotes.com/Heaven.html

"Heaven goes by favor. If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in."
- Mark Twain, a Biography
Twain just said salvation is free. Grace means unmerited favor, meaning it is unearned. Merit means it is earned. Favor = grace = free = gift. Merit = earnings = work.
No Twain was saying that Salvation is by FAVOR, which means God has to like you, just like a woman or friend has to like you. It's subjective and based on his or her opinion. That makes sense. Why would God be a machine that treats everyone equally? Equality doesn't exist anywhere in science, nature or reality. It's a concept that low class people want to believe in to elevate themselves. And a weapon that dangerous communists and socialists use to push their agenda for a NWO.

Mark Twain was not a Christian or believer. If you read his works, you'd know that. He was a deist, just like the founding fathers were. His treatise "Letters from the Earth" indicate that he was very highly critical of Christianity.
Grace is unmerited favor; unearned favor, also known as a gift, and it is free, as in unmerited. Works are earnings. If a person is going to pay for their salvation by doing good work, then salvation is no longer free, but earned. Now if grace means free gift, they've just lost out, because they're trying to earn their way to heaven. They might as well start building a staircase to heaven, because there is no hope in salvation by works.

Not only must the works be perfect from time going forward, but also retroactively from the day of birth. Also, the commandments are deep and numerous. Even if the person thought he knew all of them, because of the inherent fallibility of man, it doesn't mean he can keep all of them his whole life.

Work salvation is a major deception, and a snare. Salvation by faith and works is also impossible. It's one or it's the other. If a person trusts in works, they are trying to earn salvation, when salvation is by grace, meaning it is by the free gift of God through faith in Christ.
A good man is above pettiness. He is better than that.

Why the sinner's prayer and Biblical inerrancy doctrines are American inventions, NOT part of traditional Christianity.

Some more verses that show that salvation is without works (outside the commandments):

Ephesians 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Acts 13:39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

Galatians 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

Only Christ can be justified by the law, or specifically by keeping the law, which is part of the reason He came into the world. He's the only one who can keep all the commandments. God requires perfect obedience for salvation by the law (also known as "works"). That's why everyone else comes short of salvation by the law. It is impossible for everyone except Christ. And yes it is 100% perfection, which is why no man can be justified by keeping the law. It is too high for humans to attain without Christ.

As for salvation by works and by faith (grace), works means keeping the commandments. If the person is trusting in Christ + keeping the commandments for their salvation, their (supposed) faith in Christ is not counted by God, because they have not put their full trust in Jesus as the Messiah to save them. He was manifested to save the world. They are trusting in their own works (keeping the commandments).

If a person could simply keep the commandments to get to heaven, there'd have been no need for a Messiah. These people are trusting in their own abilities by keeping the commandments. Because of this, they have (unknowingly) chosen to be judged by their works, which means they will be condemned. Anyone who is judged by their works will be condemned, because only Christ can be justified by works because only He is able to complete and fulfill all the commandments.

Salvation is by faith in Christ alone. Anyone adding works to their faith might as well just omit their faith. Essentially anyone who is saved by any combination of works has made himself or herself their own messiah (because it is the messiah's job to save), because they are saying their works save them; or they have made themselves co-equals with Christ, which is not going to work out for them at judgment.

The commandments must be kept, and good works must be done. The difference is, to be saved, the person must not trust in their works for salvation. Salvation is by faith alone. Keeping the commandments is not about getting saved. It is about pleasing God.

You guys are going around in circles.

If someone believes in Jesus Christ they are saved.

If someone believes in Jesus Christ + works they are still saved because they believe on Jesus Christ.

Case closed.
Ironically, although for some reason you don't know it, you've stated that all a person must do to be saved is to believe in Jesus Christ. For some reason you think works are in the equation, when you yourself manage to state that salvation is by believing in Christ at the end of the equation.

"because they believe on Jesus Christ".

All a person has to do is believe in Christ. A person who believes in works + Christ has not put their complete trust in Christ. This person has turned himself into a co-equal saviour/messiah/Christ of himself, by trusting in his own works and his own righteousness, rather than simply putting their trust on Christ and His complete works.

Works are not for salvation. Keeping the commandments is to please God. Believing in Christ brings salvation.

Anyone who trusts in their own works, will be judged by their works. Anyone judged by their works will be condemned.

True. But that applies to YOU too. Agreed? And to other fundamentalists as well.

Ignoring 40 Bible verses that don't agree with you doesn't erase them or make them go away. Agreed?
How about 112?

And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Re: Why the Bible teaches a Salvation by WORKS, NOT by Faith Alone!

Post by Pinayhunter »

Don’t take anything I say as doctrine. This is just my current understanding, which could be wrong. I wouldn’t want to be accursed for preaching a false gospel.

As far as I can tell, it’s faith alone that saves us. Once we’re saved, God will punish and reward us based on our obedience. Stick with the KJV, and this position is hard to refute.

The word “repent” has nothing to do with sin. In Genesis, it says it “repented” God that he’d made man. Does that mean God turned away from sin? I don’t think so. Sounds like He had a change of mind.

The story of Cain and Abel clearly alludes to what it takes to be saved - as do Noah’s ark, Abraham’s sacrifice, and the Passover.

This Gabriel guy might be right about 2028, but that doesn’t mean he’s right about everything.

Exactly. There are two definitions of the word repent. One is to turn from sin. The other is a change of mind.

Salvation by repentance means for the person to change their mind, because if it means to turn from sin, that defeats the whole believe and be saved that is preached by Christ Himself, and the without works clause taught by Paul.

In addition, the work of Christ is complete. To say that we must repent from sin for eternal salvation, means we are trusting in our own works, which really means we are not trusting completely on Christ, inferring that His works must be incomplete. It makes the person his or her own saviour and redeemer to trust in repentance from sin. If salvation came from keeping the law, then there would have been no need for Christ. But salvation cannot come by the law, because only Christ can keep the law to absolute perfection. To be saved by the law a person would have to be God. Therefore it must be by faith. (Besides that, the meaning of the law is far deeper than most people are able to recognize.)

And if we had to do works to be saved, that would mean it is not free and that it is not a gift. However, salvation is free and it is a gift.

Christians must repent from sin, but that is not involved in eternal salvation. It is an entirely different matter.

"Heaven goes by favor. If it went by merit, you would stay out and your dog would go in."

It is unmerited favor. Twain even contrasts favor with merit. Let me rephrase it: Heaven goes by unmerited favor, because if it went by merit, then nobody could not be saved (because a person would have to be God in the flesh to be saved by merit or works). Unmerited means unearned favor. Why unearned favor? Because God doesn't want anyone to perish.

The only thing that a person has to not be (as in must not be) to get saved is a reprobate. Salvation is not available to them because they love evil more than good, and God has already cut them off. Why would He want to personally dwell with purely evil people and rescue them from hell?

As for works vs faith or faith + works vs faith alone, here is Paul's answer:

Romans 11:6 KJV And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. [If salvation is by grace then it cannot be by works; if salvation is by works then it is not by grace: because grace is free.]

Salvation is by grace (the unmerited free gift of God for believing in the name of the Son of God, Jesus) through faith. We access grace by believing (faith) in Jesus as the Christ, the Messiah. It is without works, as written in Romans and Ephesians. And a person must not trust in his own works through the side door of repentance from sin, which is nothing but turning from sin to keep the commandments, which is counted as work, when salvation is completely by the work of Christ and faith in Him.

If salvation is by faith alone then you wouldn't need to go to get baptized, go to church, or obey the 10 commandments because you'll still be
saved no matter what you do. As a Mormon, I don't believe that.

But Jim Baker did. Banging hookers with church collection money...

Religious faith is fake spirituality pushed by sinister charlatans intent on entrapping others with fear and repetitive doses of brainwashing with cult-like efficiency.

Some zombies of religious faith are victims while others are victimizers. ALL are misguided and wrong about spirituality and the afterlife however.

Many people do not know or realize that Mormonism is not Christianity. It just has an outer covering of Christianity, but it is a far different religion. Anyone can look up these differences if he is willing.

Christ died for our sins. Unless the person wants to die in his or her own sins, the person must believe in Christ and not in his own works. A person who believes that he is saved by his own works has made himself his own redeemer and Christ, which denies Christ's work. Such a person will be condemned by their own works, because to be saved by works, a person would have to be Jesus Christ.

In other words, if a person could be saved by keeping the commandments, they would be Christ, and there would be no purpose for the Son of God to manifest Himself to save us from our sins.

Another thing that many people don't realize is that salvation is without works. The reason for this is because Christ kept the commandments for us. He was perfect for us because as humans we'd have to be God to be able to keep all the commandments.

As for people who think there is no punishment if a person has eternal life, what they don't seem to know is that there are levels of reward: greater obedience means greater reward in heaven.

Baptism has nothing to do with salvation. Salvation is outside the commandments. And even if a person knew all the commandments, the law is far deeper than most people realize, as Jesus explains in detail in Matthew chapter five.

As always, it is good to get the negro perspective. However, there are various nuances to human society such as religion that are beneficial, but which you of course could not be expected to comprehend or care about.

Acts 8:37 shows us that to be baptized, a person must already believe in Christ (meaning he is already saved). The requirement for salvation isn't baptism or any work. It is simply believe that Jesus is the Son of God, known as the Messiah, Christ, Redeemer, Savior. He saves. Our righteousnesses don't save us.

Acts 8:37 KJV And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

What about sinners? If a person is a purely wicked sinner, then that person cannot get saved. God has to give each person the faith to believe in Christ, and if a person has been cut off, God simply won't grant that person eternal life.

However, not everyone who commits sin is cut off. The saved who commit sin will be chastised in this life and or have a lesser reward in heaven. A person is still human even after salvation and many people will not be able to keep the commandments to Christ-like perfection (because the commandments are higher than many people can know). King David was still saved. King Solomon was still saved. Peter was still saved. Samson was still saved. Thief on the cross even got saved at the last possible minute he could. Certainly he had no time to repent of his sin or to go to church, and it is for certain that he didn't get baptized as a believer.

Rush Limbaugh knows better:

Show: Monday, August 5.2019 61 minutes into program (1:40PM)

Open transcript / Quote:

They have tried to say that what you have to do to get to heaven is impossible: you have to live a perfect life, and you can't do that so that's a myth.

That's not what it [the Bible?] says. To get to heaven you believe in Jesus; seriously seriously believe and accept Jesus Christ.

That's cause nobody can live a sin free life. It's not possible [by] virtue of our creation it is impossible.

So that cannot be the test, but the left has come along and convinced non-believers and the ignorant that it is.

Now the left thinks that religion / organized religion is one of the biggest tricks ever played on humanity and they think it's a brilliant trick because it was used to keep societies and groups of
people in check.
