Question about God

Postby Winston » May 6th, 2008, 6:07 pm

I've always wondered something. If there is a God, why doesn't he "physically" come out and show himself like a human being would and interact with people directly?

Christians try to excuse this question by saying that if God showed himself then there would be no value in faith and that even if he did, most people wouldn't believe it anyway.

But this is an unanswerable question.

Perhaps our whole notion of what God is, is wrong?

Actually, nobody knows when exactly Buddha's birthday was. It was sometime in either April or May. Different cultures celibrate his birthday on different dates.

And the historical Buddha wasn't fat. The "fat Buddha" statues you see in Chinese restaurants are really of the jolly Chinese monk Budai (Hotei in Japanese).

What's with all the creepy avatars now? Hmm...I guess I better manifest in wrathful form to keep up.

To answer your question Winston, whether it is accurate or not, there is a popular answer sitting in the Bible/Torah. In the story of Adam and Eve, when they disobey God, he basically says to them, "Okay, you think you can live by your rules and ignore the ones I make for you? Fine, go ahead and live on your own, see how you like it." So with that in mind, there is a kind of divorce taking place, while at the same time, He remains interested in the goings on of Earth, occasionally checking in and getting involved. The whole enterprise seems to be designed to wait until people wise up and realize they need God after all. That realization is not of great value if the people don't come to it more or less on their own, so God stays in the background.

That's how I look at it anyway.

There has to be plausible deniability for both perspectives in order to keep a neutral field. Its been said that for those with faith, no proof is needed, but for those with no faith no amount of proof is enough.

Here in the Second Earth Age, God admits he puts the spirit of slumber on many. This is to protect them, so that in the Third Earth Age, they can be taught.

Itll make alot more sense after its all over.

There is no god - it's a load of *ollocks

All forced down your throat by your parents, your school and the state.

If they'd have told you an apple was an orange when you were growing up - that's what you'd believe it was.

I had 2 Jehovah's witnesses come to my door one day and I said "What about the dinosaurs then?"

No answer to that!

W: The usual Christian Evangelical answer to the dinosaur question is that they roamed the Earth before the flood. When Noah put two of each kind in his Ark, he put two baby dinosaurs of every kind. Then after the flood, when the animals were released, the dinosaurs failed to repopulate and so became extinct.

Whether or not there's a God in the traditional sense, I think there's something out there. There are miracles and answered prayers that could not have been attributed to mere chance or coincidence.
