Thanks. I'm not exactly sure how this stuff works either. You have to pay to take exams to 'boost your skills'? Why shouldn't it just be free.. something isn't coming right, at me with this. It seems like a scam, but I'm not familiar. Also, there are projects where they pay you to do them, but you have to place bids? How does that work.

I've been doing my own thing for a long time now. I have use those sites like freelancer.com to supplement my income when necessary. On the site you have to bid on projects that you would be interested in doing. The person offering the job will then choose the did they most like. This doesn't always mean it will choose the lowest price. A lot will depend also on your resume, your reel, and other factors that are really up to the person offering the job.

I think I got it up to $1000 per month. I was in the Philippines, living on the cheap, at the time. My goal was freedom and control of my life, so I found it preferable to working a job.

I'm sorry I just don't understand this. So, say a project is 30$ ( I take that to mean they will pay you $30 to do the job) - then you go in and place bids.... some up to $33. Nevermind, I got it. The budget is max payout. Bid is lowest price you'd be willing to receive for it. Ok, got it. Thanks!

So, I'm having a difficulty here - I can't get started any work on freelancer. It's kind of like credit; you have to have it to get more, if you don't have it - no one will give it to you. I'm bidding, but not landing any jobs, because I think others see I have no experience, no ratings, no stars, nothing.
What can I do to get going? Anyone have any ideas on how to break through this ice-barrier?
Anyone encountered this before? Thanks.

You may have to start out bidding lower than you would like to get your foot in the door.
Also, what do you have for samples? When I wanted to land comic jobs, I mocked up a few fake comic pages to show in my sample library for potential employers to look at. When I wanted to land commercial gigs, I did a few fake commercialist put in my sample library. If you're trying to get into article writing, do you have sample articles for potential employers to read?

I could try this. A friend of mine told me he liked my writing and the way I conduct my words when it comes to speaking against social justice warriors and feminists. Any site you recommend I could start to work for? I am still working a daily job, but I am looking for a secondary that can become permanent as a writer if the job pays good enough. Any recommendations would help. I also know a thing or two at video editing. It is time I find a job where I can use these skills and work on leaving America. I've been here long enough. I've been wondering myself what the hell to do for a living, now that I have a trigger thumb (a thumb that doesn't open/close naturally). Unfortunately my skills and experience are in IT, an industry I don't think highly of and was considering giving up on even before this new problem began. Maybe this is the final nail in that coffin.
Customer support is an idea, though I've done it before and find it tiresome.
