freelancer.com? Doesn't get much easier than that.

Elance has now become upwork.com

Still, I'm going to say the best work-at-home job is to create your own.

Do you have experience with doing your own? How would you do that - could I do it off of that freelancer.com?
Thanks. I'm not exactly sure how this stuff works either. You have to pay to take exams to 'boost your skills'? Why shouldn't it just be free.. something isn't coming right, at me with this. It seems like a scam, but I'm not familiar. Also, there are projects where they pay you to do them, but you have to place bids? How does that work.
Sorry, I'm new to this...

I am also having technical issues with payments - the site loops around. There is no option to speak to a person - to get help. ..

I've been doing my own thing for a long time now. I have use those sites like freelancer.com to supplement my income when necessary. On the site you have to bid on projects that you would be interested in doing. The person offering the job will then choose the did they most like. This doesn't always mean it will choose the lowest price. A lot will depend also on your resume, your reel, and other factors that are really up to the person offering the job.

If you don't mind my asking, what was your monthly income like when you were writing articles?

I think I got it up to $1000 per month. I was in the Philippines, living on the cheap, at the time. My goal was freedom and control of my life, so I found it preferable to working a job.

I'm sorry I just don't understand this. So, say a project is 30$ ( I take that to mean they will pay you $30 to do the job) - then you go in and place bids.... some up to $33. Nevermind, I got it. The budget is max payout. Bid is lowest price you'd be willing to receive for it. Ok, got it. Thanks!

So, I'm having a difficulty here - I can't get started any work on freelancer. It's kind of like credit; you have to have it to get more, if you don't have it - no one will give it to you. I'm bidding, but not landing any jobs, because I think others see I have no experience, no ratings, no stars, nothing.
What can I do to get going? Anyone have any ideas on how to break through this ice-barrier?

Anyone encountered this before? Thanks.

Thanks

You may have to start out bidding lower than you would like to get your foot in the door.

Also, what do you have for samples? When I wanted to land comic jobs, I mocked up a few fake comic pages to show in my sample library for potential employers to look at. When I wanted to land commercial gigs, I did a few fake commercialist put in my sample library. If you're trying to get into article writing, do you have sample articles for potential employers to read?

Fenix wrote:Hello gentlemen! I will reiterate this and say I am a freelance writer and I have been doing this online for almost 3 years now. I get to work at home, make my own schedule, work when I want to, and I work at home (had to say this twice!). This is part one of freelance jobs. I will do it in parts. I will give you guys the links to all writing websites online that pay. Ignore the revenue share sites because you have to generate page views and you make pennies and peanuts, so it is not really worth it. Many of these jobs pay like $10 an article right, but if you can write 10-15 articles, 5 days a week, you can make good income. I make about $3,000 a month (when everything is rolling with the work). Things are slow right now. Anyway, I will post freelance writing, paid surveys, transcription jobs, and other work for you guys! First, freelance sites. Here is the link to the freelance writing:

If you have any questions about freelance writing, feel free to ask me here or PM me. I only know about freelance writing and not the other areas though. Oh yeah, I will also post freelance writing markets too. Freelance writing is filled with so many options. Bianca, the Australian girl that saved my life, is the reason why I am freelancing. She is the one that told me about this. I would be working at McDonald's or some other pennies and peanuts job somewhere in Arizona. Saved my life meaning I didn't know what to do as far as jobs were concerned. I had no hope. I was stuck with temp or telemarketing jobs and I hate those jobs. I haven't looked back! I will never work an hourly wage ever again (knock on burnt wood).

Enough of me being a babbling Brooke...Here's the first link. I will add the others tomorrow when I organize my bookmarks. Oh, you're welcome! :P

P.S. You can work anywhere in the world, as long as you have a PayPal!

Freelance Writing List I:

I could try this. A friend of mine told me he liked my writing and the way I conduct my words when it comes to speaking against social justice warriors and feminists. Any site you recommend I could start to work for? I am still working a daily job, but I am looking for a secondary that can become permanent as a writer if the job pays good enough. Any recommendations would help. I also know a thing or two at video editing. It is time I find a job where I can use these skills and work on leaving America. I've been here long enough. I really want to get out there and travel!

I would love to have a remote job which actually pays well.
Learn some IT skills: web design and software development, DevOps (cloud systems management), app testing, IT project management. There is plenty on offer around the world, although jobs that are 100% remote from anywhere are fewer, lesser paid, and more open to competition. If you are in the US or on the US timezone range, e.g. Latin America, you should be fine.

I've been wondering myself what the hell to do for a living, now that I have a trigger thumb (a thumb that doesn't open/close naturally). Unfortunately my skills and experience are in IT, an industry I don't think highly of and was considering giving up on even before this new problem began. Maybe this is the final nail in that coffin.
Customer support is an idea, though I've done it before and find it tiresome.
