Convert your currency to drugs.

If shit hits the fan you can be post apocalyptic drug lord.

If it doesn't then you can still sell it for a while and then OD right before you run out.

How about a realistic plan.

$20,000 is a freaking LOT to work with. There are places where you can live for 2 or 3 years on that.

You got your book. Start promoting the HELL out of it and get on with writing the next one. Start a blog and build up your fan base. It doesn't take that many. You have 2 or 3 years to get your website up to making JUST $1000 a month. That is totally DOABLE for ANYONE.

There is, of course, always the chance to hit it big and make a lot more. You never know which book, which product, which blog article will be the one that opens the floodgates.

Here is another plan. Go back to China and teach. Forget about girls and all that social life stuff. You don't have that in America anyway so you are not missing anything. Since teaching is light on the hours, now work on your book, website etc. Take occasional trips to Phils to blow off steam if you must. In time, your website and books can make teaching unnecessary.

How would eeking out a living with a blog or whatever help you prepare for a SHTF situation?

Ghost wrote:This is purely hypothetical. I'm trying to brainstorm different ways to use my resources quickly in the event that I think there's no tomorrow. (Say if Taco's Apocalypse is going to hit.) It's a Dead Man's Plan.

In this scenario, you've got $20,000 to work with. This is life savings + liquidating virtually everything you've got.

The goal is to think of the best way to stretch out the money, doing what you really want in life, while maximizing how long the money lasts.

Once the money's all gone AND in the event that the world keeps going on as ¨normal,¨ the options are grim, ranging from wage slavery with no hope of ever escaping to the Smith & Wesson Retirement Plan.

Remember, this is a brainstorming exercise. It's not something I'm planning to do, but I'm open-minded if things go sour enough.

IF this were a goal, I'd do a poor man's version of the Bucket List (good) and I'd look at Harold Camping's followers to see what happens when Doomsday doesn't show up on a schedule (bad).

One has to wonder what the prospects are going to be, overall. I don't see how you're going to sustain things in one of those Mad Max/Book of Eli/Waterworld scenarios. It's just as simple as you need there to be a situation to do these things in- whatever "these things" happen to be. You can't eat without food, you can't carve without wood, you can't shoot without bullets. Not to be arrogant, but that seems to be an enormously hard concept for Americans to grasp.

If you're talking what to spend on, I'd imagine things that don't need too much replacing (solar stuff, long-lasting tools (good axes & knives, for instance), a good amount of supplies so you can divide it up (not having all your food & med-kit stuff in one place, at the very least), and possibly stuff to help you travel (climbing gear, man-powered vehicle like a canoe or a bicycle, maybe something for night vision, etc...).

I think a lot of people think of survival gear first, but the thing is you don't really need much in the way of survival gear in the first place- even to make things smooth instead of just barely getting by. Tools to make tools are a useful thing in that category, though. A crooked knife of some sort is an idea (good for general woodworking & making things like spoons/bowls/ladles). Hand-powered drills of some sort are another (there's a Trayer Fire Piston that converts into all kinds of shit- including a decent-sized drill that's good for larger shelter-building projects).

Instead of drugs, I think it'd be better to be a weapons dealer. That way you can use your own supply to get out of trouble.

Well, in this scenario I'm not trying to prepare for or outlast a SHTF outcome. I'm just trying to have my fun, making it last as long as I can, and then exiting the planet afterwards. (If I didn't hypothetically chicken out and decide to return home and become a wage slave or something.)

Unless SHTF involves a solar flare, nuclear war, or a comet, it's usually a local or regional event.
You don't have to out last it, but you may have to out run it.
A tornado touches down in your town, the same day ISIS takes over, and the Greeks show up to set fire to the bank you're in, ... during an earthquake.
That's SHTF, but only if you live there. With that in mind ...

My poor man's bucket list was more along the lines of get an RV and hit the road (if sight-seeing is your thing, or you hate to sit still).
The house is also the transport. No "landlord" or whatever and the large truck stops all down the interstate provide almost anything you don't want to haul with you.
Find a spot you like, stick around. If it turns out the locals think you got a purty mouth, ease on down the road.

Or .. go sky diving, rocky mountain climbing, 2.7 seconds on a bull named Fu Man Chu. ... :D

Unless you plan to go out Chris Farley style, with Heidi The Ho taking a pic of you as you lay dying, 20K will buy a lot of fun and last you quite a while.

What exactly would you want to spend your time doing? Obviously stretching $20k out for any length of time is going to limit your options. You could try housesitting or whatever to make it go further.

Up until now it usually has been. However, the world has never had a global economy with this level of interconnectedness and fragility before.
