I don't understand the point of posting the names of trolls or spammers. It gives them attention and makes them want to keep doing it in order to keep having their pseudonyms appear in the list, and it causes a distraction. I'd rather just talk about foreign women and the other topics.

The best way to deal with trolls and spammers is not to ban them, put their name on a list, or even talk about them. I sometimes wonder why forums don't just have a facility that allows the admin or moderators to make their posts invisible. i.e. as soon as it is known that they're mucking around, let them post but don't let their posts appear. That would be very frustrating, because they'd be wasting their time, and they'd know that it would happen again and again if they keep trying. They'd get no attention at all.

We are posting them so they can be banned or deleted. There is no way to make their posts invisible to everyone. Even if there were, why? The spam that gets posted here gets indexed by Google, and could result in penalties if they point to bad sites like porn or viagra sites. We can't just ignore that. The content that gets indexed here is what brings in most of our new traffic.

I just banned swatchni he was spamming the forum with ads for blackberrys and iphones all throughout the forum. I deleted his posts and banned his IP address and user name.
