Upgrading forum to phpBB3 - Which theme do you like?

I found this dark red theme template for phpBB. It looks really nice and sleek. What do you all think? Should we switch to it? See the demo here.

Red after all is the color of love isn't it?

On the other hand, blue is the most universally agreed upon color, and that's why this forum is currently blue.

What do you think?

I say to keep it blue, it's easier to read. The red is too hard on the eyes, blue looks much nicer.

Hmm, I have the opposite opinion and think the red is better and catches your eye more. However, if you want to keep the blue, what about changing the background color to a beige or something? Or do burgundy on beige (good combo). Maybe it's just my monitor, but the blue is a bit boring to me. Or, change it out every six months and have fun with it.

I just installed the dark red theme in my SCEPCOP forum. Have a look:

Nice huh? :)

I think the current theme is pretty good, although sometimes the blueish grayish white may seem kind of boring and prison-like. I agree that the red theme is pretty harsh-looking because of all the contrast. Perhaps, there are other red themes which are "warmer" and less harsh.

If you wanted to try something new, you could go with green (which I've read is the easiest color on the eyes) and do some sort of tropical jungle theme.

Some kind of background pattern or design might be more visually stimulating than the solid colors.

You can always give the users a choice under "select your skin" options that most other boards have.

Hi all,
I'm seriously considering upgrading this forum to phpBB3. The URL of this board would also be changed to something like this:

index.php

One advantage of phpBB3 would be that the unread topics would be kept unread until you actually read them, whereas now they are only unread until you log out of the session or your session expires.

So I'm wondering, which theme do you all like? Here are my top choices:

Prosilver (standard default theme)
http://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo/3.0/?style_id=1

Prosilver special edition
http://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo/3.0/?style_id=3

Skyblue theme
http://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo/3.0/?style_id=44

Reds theme
http://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo/3.0/?style_id=235

Redsilver
http://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo/3.0/?style_id=21

Milky Way Red
http://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo/3.0/?style_id=5

Glassblue (with black background)
http://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo/3.0/?style_id=615

Glassgreen (with black background)
http://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo/3.0/?style_id=585

Getaway Green (nice green shade)
http://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo/3.0/?style_id=42

Getaway Blue (nice and similar to the current theme)
http://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo/3.0/?style_id=41

Getaway Dark Blue
http://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo/3.0/?style_id=765

Etech Blue (nice and similar to the current theme)
http://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo/3.0/?style_id=33

Etech Green
http://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo/3.0/?style_id=34

Personally I like this Etech Blue the best. What do you think?

The Etech blue does look nice. You could always leave the forum the way it is now.

I wish we could, but in order to do that, I'd have to add all the ads and scripts and mods to all the themes available to select, and that would take way too long. Plus when I update something, I'd have to update it on every theme too. I wish all the forum themes would just run off of one template. Some themes do that already, but not all.

Btw, check out this new blue theme on phpbb3. It looks similar to the one we have now, but more modern. What do you think? It looks nice doesn't it?

I just used prosilver on my new forum. It looks quite nice just out of the box. Maybe I'll be able to change the colours, maybe not.

I had the same with Wordpress, I just used the default colour schemes.

Hi all,
We are going to be upgrading the forum to phpbb3. Here is the phpbb3 demo page where you can preview and download themes. Look through it and let us all know which theme you think is best:

https://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo/3.0/?from=submenu

You can also find more forum themes on the phpbb hacks site. Here is their demo page as well, where you can preview the styles.

http://www.phpbbhacks.com/phpbb3/demo/

Here is yet another site with phpbb themes:

http://demo.phpbb3styles.net

I still think a blue and white combination theme is the best, because it's the most normal and white represents truth. But we could consider a greenish theme as well. I would consider a grayish theme too, but gray seems a bit gloomy.
