Another one, probably more relevant, I just watched it: Picture Bride

About Japanese women who married Japanese men who were in Hawaii, based upon their picture and a letter. Something akin to mail order brides, at the beginning of the 20th century.

Since some of you mentioned Mutiny on the Bounty, here is an earlier version of the movie.

The second half of the movie shows some of the mutineers' descendents on Pitcairn Island.

Foreign Brides

The Birthday Girl with Nicole Kidman is a great movie. This movie is a must see for anybody thinking about bringing back a Russian bride.

Closer to Home about the different desires between a Filipina bride and her American husband.

Thanks for the recommendations. I just finished The Birthday Girl, but haven't been able to find Closer to Home.

My kind of stuff

"Farewell to the King" (on the list) has a nice White-Guy-with-native-girl polygamy theme

Plus I would add...

"Apocalypse Now Redux" has the original "French Plantation Sequence", which helps the movie make more sense, but also has a languid love affair with Martin Sheen and a French hottie under the mosquito net.

These remind me of two movies that were already mentioned earlier in the thread:

"The Quiet American" (Vietnam again, Michael Caine with a young VN hottie under the mosquito net"

Also "Six Days Seven Nights"... newlywed gets separated from bride, gets seduced by hot native girl

If you like Apocalypse Now, then you should probably also watch Heart of Darkness

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110002/

Apocalypse Now was also based on the book by Joseph Conrad, which is worth reading.
