The South Pacific isn't like that any more. Well, of course, unless you're a young version of Mel Gibson. Then, the whole world is like that.

I just watched Swept Away (which someone above mentioned). It is a nice movie, but clearly a chick flick.

I must have watched the wrong Swept Away movie:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swept_Away_%282002_film%29

instead of :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swept_Away_%281974_film%29

Anyway, I finally watched The Matrix, which must be a required movie for MGTOWs and for guys who fancy themselves as Red Pillers, as a lot of their metaphors derive directly from the movie. The movie seems mostly for video-game fans, as a lot of the shoot-'em-up scenes appear to be what you might see in a video game. Not really my kind of movie, but it seems to have had a huge social impact somehow.

I just finished the original, 1974 Italian version of Swept Away. Really an excellent movie.

The 2002 American version, which starred Madonna, was a watered-down chick flick.

A couple more that I can recommend:

The Wicker Man (1973)

And City of Ghosts (2002)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0164003/

Absolutely brilliant. I highly recommend it.

And then there's "The Road To El Dorado", where two gringos compete for a dishy native girl, and reprise the theme of "The Man Who Would Be King"
