Here is some great smooth jazz I'm listening to with saxophone, that'll soothe your mind and calm your senses. It's just what you need if you're feeling stressed.

Here also is some Japanese smooth jazz.

Jamesbond, this one you posted by Enya is really nice. It shows a symphony of nature from the stars to the Earth. Very spiritual!

Jamesbond,
I've done the same with this thread and embedded all the YouTube videos. It's nice having a long thread of soothing spiritual music videos to watch on one page.

Wow that Silk Road song was wonderful Momopi. The mountain and wind scenes were very spiritual too. I listened to some of Kitaro's other songs on YouTube too. My parents enjoyed it too when I showed it to them.

I embedded your video into the thread so it can be played directly here. Remember that now you can use the YouTube button above to embed them into the forum.

Any more songs like that that you'd recommend? I heard some good Chinese ones before, but I don't remember their names. But their CD's were going for high prices on Amazon.

Masanori Takahashi (Kitaro) lives in Sonoma in Northern California. He's an interesting fellow who discovered the synthesizer and went nuts with it. He also married the daughter of Japan's biggest Yakuza boss. @_@;;

I prefer his work from the 1980s. You can look up his discography here and check his newer albums:

IMO his "Silk Road" series is his defining masterpiece. When everything else in life turns to sh*t, you can still load Kitaro mp3's into your ipod, turn on, tune in, and drop out.

I was originally introduced to his music from Queen Millennia (Leiji Matsumoto):

There were other Japanese artists who were inspired by the synthesizer in the 1980s, such as Himekami. Search by Himekami or the kanji name

I agree. I listened to Kitaro's other pieces and Silk Road seems to be his best composition.

He married the daughter of a Yakuza boss? Is that how he got famous and successful?

You would think that a spiritual person wouldn't get involved in the mafia, wouldn't you?

He was married to the Japanese yakuza boss's daughter in the 1980s, but divorced in the 1990s. Back then there was some Japanese tabloid stuff about his mafia connection, recreational drug use, in-law's funding of his music ventures, etc. But, being tabloids, I wouldn't read too much into it. But hey, if he wanted money and dope, I guess marrying the mob boss's daughter is it.

Let me introduce you to some "fan cover" music from Japanese anime theme songs. Fan covers are music played by fans and not the original producer. This particular piece is from The Borrower Arrietty, based on The Borrowers by Mary Norton. Here's a short CM of the anime movie:

Original MV:

Fans of the movie (those with some music talent) would replicate the theme song with their favorite instruments:

Here's some Chinese music. We'll start with Jia Peng Fang, his favorite instrument is the Erhu. My uncle used to play, but he's no where near as good as Jia Peng Fang.

One of his best friends is the Japanese composer Katsuhisa Hattori, they perform together in concerts:

Classic Chinese Zither "Full Moon over West House":

Lyrics:

Classic version:

The lyrics are based on a classic poem written by a female poet, who misses her husband who was far away.

月满西楼 (extremely rough/hack translation for first half)
--------------------------
Scented red lotus flower fading, autumn will come soon.
Lightly taking off my robe and boarding the boat alone
From among the clouds, who will send my husband's letter?
The wild goose will return to their home soon, and the full moon is hanging over the west house
Flower petals float in the wind and the water flows by itself
Together thinking of each other, but missing each other with gloomy mood
This feeling and sentiment, who knows how to get rid of
Down from brow, but come into the heart soon.

Here's the song (Tall Mountains, flowing Water/River), performed on different traditional instruments:

Pipa:

Guqin:

Here's a lesser known instruments, Liuqin:

Yueqin (Moon Guitar)

The Yueqin instrument was also used across Asia, from Japan to Vietnam. This metal-head decided to use a Yueqin to do a fan rendition of X Japan @_@

He's using the Vietnamese version Yueqin (tuned a little different from Chinese version), but playing it like a western guitar.

okok... the real X Japan: >:D

Wow! Great Stuff!

Upon my arrival to the USA I was SO SO SO shocked that people have NO IDEA about so many different kinds of music that exists in the world! For me in high school and some of my friends LOVED ENIGMA! It is a European music project that blends some of the world folk music with modern beats and rhythms. A guy behind it is Michael Cretu, former husband of very famous singer Sandra (she is originally from Germany).

So here it is, you can find more on youtube:

Another good one is Era. Similar, but different :)

Another thing that good Electronic (House-Trance) music actually uplifts me and relaxes me, also gives me energy to live (dance? inside and out). Unfortunately, almost nobody in the USA is aware or listens to good Euro beats. Here is one of the all time favorites, Benny Benassi. Just look at that hot Italian girl, lyrics and beats.... makes my day everytime.
