As I said before none of us were there so who can say what his motivations were. But based on what you report it does not sound like marrying you (or anyone) was at the top of his list of priorities. Never marrried with no kids, and his mother as a top priority - this does not sound like a guy desperate to get married. But again I am just guessing. People all over the world get together and end up parting because they have different goals. Clearly your goal was a traditional marriage. It just doesnt sound like that was his goal or if it was then he didnt know what to do about it. But certainly just because he could not "commit" does not mean other American men cannot commit.

My only concern that I tried to express is that most American guys have been in relationships with controlling American women. If he was 39 and managed never to get married maybe he was very good at avoiding the control that American women wish to place over their men. If you are in a relationship with an American guy who has had controlling women in his life before you will want to be extra careful that you dont try to force him to stop doing the things that he loves to do.

Now, the single American guys my age are different story….. I am 26 years old so I am talking about guys with age between 27 and 39.

How it works in America is that people pair off in High School or College; this is where the majority of women find the good men. So if your looking for a decent Amercian guy with no kids, I suggest getting a job at a large collage (i.e, Penn State).

"It's good to see you!?" (with shock look) = They don't really give a rats ass that they ran into you.

"You have to come visit me some time?!" = They don't really want you to visit them, it's just a slick way for a person to gain likeability without having to actually do any work. In other words, they hope you don't take them up on the offer all while you still view them in a positive light merely because they offered to host you as a guest.

"Take care!"= They are not really concerned about your well being.

"So how's life treating you?" = They don't really care about your life or your general well being. What they really want to know is how has your social status changed since they last saw you. In other words, they want to know if you are higher or lower on the social scale then they.

"I love you" (if a guy says this to a girl) = The sex is good and I'm happy with the frequency.

"I love you" (if a girl says this to a guy) = You're doing a good job taking care of my needs.


And I could go on.... The bottom line is that Americans are big talkers and good at salesmanship but come up short when s*** really matters.
