Peruvian girlfriend invited me to visit. Is it worth the travel?

I’m a thirty-five year old who’s been in a few relationships. I’m currently dating a girl from Peru that I met on a foreign affair. We’ve been together for two years now. I’m looking forward to proposing to her soon, she just has no idea. Our relationship is going really well. I couldn’t ask for anyone better.

The first time we talked, I knew there was something special about her. Two months after our initial contact, I asked her to be my girlfriend and she said yes. Her attitude never faltered even after the time that has passed. She's really genuine with her actions and emotions. Honestly, she's the most genuine person I've met.

About a week ago she invited me to visit her in Peru. I told her I'll think about it first. I've never been to the country before, but it seems like a good idea to visit Machu Picchu with her. I just need the opinion of others to make sure this is a good idea. What should I prepare for my visit? Should I just tell her to visit me instead?

She promised to give me a tour in her place. Should I send her money ahead so she can make necessary arrangements or should I wait until she sends me the needed expenses? Also, is proposing on my first visit a good idea too? I really need legit advice.

If you couldn't ask for anyone better and she's the most genuine person you've ever met, then I really wouldn't sweat the details too much

In terms of preparing for your visit, a lot of what you may or may not need (to borrow a Bill Clintonism) depends on what kind of amenities your potential accommodation has, and where it is located. Peru is a country with a large rich-poor divide and within Lima there is tremendous societal variation.

Answers to the following questions would help us help you:

1. Are you used to travelling? Have you been outside your home country many times before?

2. Do you speak Spanish?

3. Does your girlfriend have a family?

4. Do you have the money to take a trusted and insightful friend with you so they can help evaluate your prospective marriage partner? Marriage is a very serious business and you need to be as sure as you can be that you know what you are doing.

As far as I can see, you NEVER met this woman in person, face to face. I would not consider internet-contacts as more as merely what they are - internet contacts.

Or did you meet her in person already? Your comment is not so easy to understand. If this is only an internet-contact, then she is not your 'girlfriend' but more a 'penpal'.

How much do you know about her and the people living next to her?

Where are you now, and where is she?

----

Generally said, to travel to unknown places is always a good idea - if you focus more on the country, language, culture etc. and less on women.

If you need her in person, it might work out fine good luck to you - but if not, it was still a nice trip.

For sure I will not recommend to send any money. You can bring her a gift on arrival, why not?
Tours, hotels, airtickets etc. can be reserved in advance by internet/creditcard for yourself, and if she wants to join, you can later pay up the difference for her expenses too.

What do you know about her family? What is she doing for a living? Is she still with her parents? etc. etc.
I feel plenty of answers are missing when asking you about details...and marriage? Still far away if you ask me.

These A Current Affair marketing emails are just so formulaic, following the same sort of pattern every time.

It's A Foreign Affair or Loveme.com. Whenever you see those words in a post about having met a woman abroad you know it is just a shill for the company starting the thread, and no one will read your response.

When I was in Colombia I met a few women from the lowest strata of society, and they were much nicer than many American women I've met. It's amazing what happens when you cross a border.
