No, Taiwan is NOT an independent country. It's political status is unclear. Its government was kicked out of UN and being replaced with the government of mainland China in 1971. Taiwan tries to return to the UN since about 15 years but was always rejected. Presently it is a member of 'Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO)' together with Tibet and some others.

UN membership is not required to be a de facto independent state. Taiwan and Kosovo are both de facto independent states and not members of the UN.

By "de facto" I mean "in effect" or "in reality" regardless of opinion.

Kosovo is recognised by 109 UN member countries while 84 are against it. This means the majority of UN members accept Kosovo as an independent country.
However Taiwan is recognised only by 21 countries, many of them are tiny Pacific islands or small Latin American countries.

Even the government in Taiwan itself does not claim 'independence', it does not insist it is an independent country, quite different from the government in Kosovo.

Therefore Kosovo is not and never has been a member of the 'Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO)', but Tibet and Taiwan are and so far with no solution in sight.

What I'm wondering is this going to be the next ongoing failure of America? It seems the kind of shit that America would get into, swearing blind that they're "supporting freedom" and all that shit, but actually f***ing it up & sabotaging whatever headway people try to make. For example: China is going after the Philippines & the Filipinos actually figured out something that worked well, the Americans would come & ruin it.

It's plenty debatable as to why (ex: arrogance that someone else upstaged them or in any way looked good- the "gap" is not 0 to 100, there's more than 0 on someone else's end / simply liking tragedy or travesty- they DO seem fond of "aww, it's such a shame" or "that's f***ed-up!" kind of things / no self-recrimination so their advice would likely be for shit- might even be that they f**k up to excite that sense of being the "non-stick pan of f***ing up"). THAT it would be launched is hard to debate, however. In this country, a 10-year trillion dollar war over things that didn't exist doesn't seem to be much of a credibility issue (or one to knock off the trait of having a "military answer" for everything).

Just thought of something: How would they make things worse in THIS country if that happened? Aren't there a whole shitload of muslims in SE Asia? Would this maybe scatter them? Or would they be recruited as "moderate terrorists"? Which then go everywhere & f**k things up?
