Probably because the rain and flooding was much worse than Houston has ever seen and by the time anyone realized how bad it was going to be, it was impossible to fly the planes out.

The planes would have been ok with just a few feet of flooding, with repairs limits to overhauling the landing gear.

Hopefully this is a wakeup call to the people of Houston that stormwater management has been very poorly handled for a long time. Harvey exceeded the previous record by about 20%. This was not a 1 in 1000 year event, more like a 1 in 50 year event.

Meh, everything I read ahead of time was that this storm was going to dump record rain.

Those planes are totaled. Idiot airlines.
