Migrating From Blogger to Wordpress

Post by djfourmoney »

I found some software to do it - http://wordpress.org/plugins/blogger-to ... direction/

It would suck to lose the content I have already made.

Has anybody else done it?

Also can somebody recommend a good affordable Wordpress site for templates?

I really want to focus on good/great content and no so much on web design. Upload and go, so any help going in that direction would be a HUGE help, thanks.

Just the basic 2010/2020 templates it comes with are good enough really. I also like the Woo Themes.

Alternatively if you have an idea for a theme, just use Google images for keywordname + wordpress template, like I did when I made this site.

Can't you just download/export the XML file of your Blog from Blogger with the export function, and then uploading/importing it to your Wordpress Blog?

Why do you want to migrate it? What's wrong with Blogger?

Blogger is easier to use. Wordpress is hard to figure out. The widgets are hard to control, and the HTML you put into the widgets often doesn't even work correctly.

Because to have my blog post appear on www.motorsport.com when I write and post to my own blog automatically, I need to have Wordpress as they have a widget that automatically makes my post appear upon approval.

Otherwise I would have to submit my post, get it approved and then uploaded by the webmaster. Right now my blog gets about 20-30 uniques per day, motorsport.com gets 300,000 uniques a month.

I rather have the easiest way possible.

I suppose I could upload the XML file, you think that's better than using the software in the link?

Here are some articles about how to migrate a blog from Blogger to Wordpress. It looks pretty tedious.

Here is a great summary comparison of Blogger and Wordpress:

Conclusions

Both Blogger and WordPress.org are excellent choices for anyone looking for a hosted blogging service. WordPress is clearly aimed at those who are willing to spend time learning its features and can handle an occasionally confusing interface. It offers a wider range of tools for adding content, more widgets and better social networking integration, and superior customization.

Blogger, on the other hand, is much simpler to set up and easier to use; you'll be able to create a blog and manage it in less time and with less effort than is required in WordPress.

So the choice is clear: If you want the fullest set of blogging features, you want WordPress, but if you're looking for simplicity and streamlined blog creation and posting, Blogger is the way to go.

At some point, I should migrate our HA blog from Blogger to Wordpress CMS software under my hosting server, because right now, our blog is hosted on Blogger, which is owned by Google. And Google can take it down anytime it wants for any reason, even if they just consider it offensive. Does anyone know how to do this? It's probably a tedious process. Especially if you wanna keep the same permalinks and URL's and SEO ranking. I found some links with instructions about this though. I'm gonna post them below to archive them for future reference.

I would stay away from Wordpress if possible, those pages are an awful experience IMO. I hate it, they seem to hog the system real bad.
1)Too much of one thing defeats the purpose.
2)Everybody is full of it. What's your hypocrisy?
