Winston, can't you just have your own server? I mean literally your own server in the apartment or house you live. Then you could control everything and wouldn't have to rely on anyone.

I know some things about computers. But I can't run or monitor a server remotely. what happens if it goes down or has a power outage? There are some problems that only someone with access to the hardware can fix. That's why you need a webhost. They have backup power generators in case of power outages. And technicians to fix the servers. No one knows everything about computers. There's too much to know.

Our server went down again today! It seems to happen every week now! But it didn't before. I don't get why. I talked to Bluehost support and all they would say is that I need more memory. But they wouldn't say what on my site would cause it to need more memory. This site has been operating for 10 years and there is nothing here that would cause a server to crash.
They showed me this server log screenshot though. What do you make of it? It just says the server ran out of memory but it didn't say why or what the cause was.

Bluehost looks incompetent. Based on your experience I would never sign up with them.
Why are they #1 in the reviews? They're crap.

Yes well most of their positive reviews are probably from affiliates making commissions. And they spent a lot on marketing and YouTube videos too, to make it look like they are number one and know what they're doing and how they built their servers from scratch and know them better than any outside technician, etc. Their promo videos made them look like an honest caring mom and pop family business or something. lol
If you google "bluehost sucks" you will see there are lots of complaints about how Bluehost has really gone downhill.
It seems that one possibility is that Bluehost is deliberately crashing websites hosted on their servers in order to get them to upgrade to more expensive hosting plans, and telling them they need more memory, etc. Yet without any logical explanation as to why they need more memory. If so then that's a conspiracy and scam. And I'm surprised a Mormon company would do that. Also Bluehost used to be decent, but when they were bought by EIG, they went downhill along with all other EIG owned companies.

Earlier, Master said that every time he came here, he would get a message saying a script was running here that switched the location of the profiles from right to left, which came from an extension/plug in here. If that script runs every time a topic page is viewed here, then could that be the one that's causing the memory drain?

My server was down again all day. Happens almost every month. They say my resources maxed out but that should not happen in theory on a vps unless a million people came to my website. I wonder if im being hacked too.
Why doesnt the government or dark forces simply order my webhost to shut down my site instead of employing hackers? Wouldnt the CEO of the webhost company be part of the freemasons or something? Lol.
My webhost tech support have no idea why my site goes down either. The logs dont show anything except "sacrifice child" which is creepy but its standard terminology for a program to kill a subprogram they say. I wonder if thats a coincidence or an illuminati black comedy. They love hiding secrets in plain sight after all. Lol

It could be bots trying to register. Do you still get a lot of spammers?
On my forum I've stopped a lot by putting recaptcha on the registration form and making new posters post 5 times before they can include links in posts.
I did try CloudFlare to stop bots but it didn't seem to work that well. Well you could give that a go.
Hostgator seem better for phpBB now if ur site is getting under attack they put in something to stop dodgy IP's from accessing it.
Some bots try to register. But not that many. Yes of course i use recaptcha 2.0. it stops all bot spam. And human spam is stopped by putting all new posters on moderation.

Our server went offline again. I had them fix it again over live chat. This time though, they did something about it. They found some causes and implemented a solution. See below. Apparently it's due to abusive robots.

We have reviewed the issue causing your server to crash. We found on the day your server crashed your site was being inundated by requests done by web crawling robots. Typically web crawlers are a good thing as long as their purpose is legitimate and the number of request is not abusive, however on your site we are seeing traffic from bots known to be abusive and cause server issues. In order to prevent these bots from crashing your server in the future we have added some code to the htaccess file on your public_html directory. This script limits the number or times a bot can visit your site and blocks known abusive bots all together.

The logs above show that for all the requests made to your server on 4/3 almost half of them were from these bots. With the limitations in place you should no longer see your server resources depleted.
