Most of you are missing the point. The OP doesn't want a job and he doesn't want to work. He wants to feel good about the fact that he isn't working.262 wrote:OP:

You should be posting links to articles describing how bad the economy is and how it is impossible for people of his age (whatever that is) to get work.
Re: Why do ALL of my friends have jobs and I don't??
I have already mentioned in the other thread that a friend of mine is in this business. I was right up front that I DO NOT DO IT. I have never done it because:Ghost wrote:Are we really going to be this naive? This was obviously clickbait, parading around a single exception as if it is easily attainable. The article even says that he is an exception. Results not typical.Instead, he attended Texas State Technical College in Waco, and received a two-year degree in welding. In 2013, his first full year as a welder, his income was about $130,000, more than triple the average annual wages for welders in the U.S. In 2014, Mr. Friend’s income rose to about $140,000.
Idiots like DD would rather puff up his own ego and give young men false hope of a place in the economy than admit he is full of shit.
Your headlight shining business may have some merit. But instead of being realistic, you immediately came out saying one could "hustle" and make up to $400 a day. (But how consistently? Are these results typical? Did you actually try this and find success with it? He shied away from these kinds of questions of course.)
1. I have plenty of other things to do.
2. I don't need more money.
I gave you a blueprint for a VERY simple and easy business because you lack the skillset to do things which are more difficult. Now if you could make money by coming up with excuses and rationalizations then you would be a rich man.
The only ego puffing is yours. You use your excuses to avoid the truth. The truth is that you are lazy and are not intelligent enough to hack it in the US job market. By your own admission you couldn't even hold on to your fast food job. If you are not mentally handicapped then that is an amazing admission of incompetence.
Re: Why do ALL of my friends have jobs and I don't??
Of course it's really determinant on the individual. I'm a recent college graduate who had worked in the construction field for over a year. Was it good money? not at all but could have been with certain certifications and 5 years in. I absolutely hated it though and could not see myself wasting my life doing it. Then again I had a degree at the time that I was (still am) paying loans on. For myself, I'm more about enjoying where I work and what I do over how much money I make. And what I do now and want to do in the future REQUIRES a degree (Masters preferably). No getting around it unless you have 15 years relevant experience. That said, I would think vocational skills are more useful than having BA degrees and a lot of BS degrees as well. But articles like this should be honest.
Nowadays you need 2-3 years experience just to get an entry level job, in which most also require a degree. Without a degree, you have no chance. Going for a trade/vocational certification is good for those that have no direction and/or don't really care what they do. Or they simply like being an electrician or a barber or whatever. I know electricians can make a decent amount of money where I live but of course that takes long hours and long commutes and of course certifications. I used to get up at 3:30am sometimes to drive 2.5 hours to a job site and then not get home til 8:30 in the evening. Makes for a bad and depressing life.
So my advice: Go for trades/vocations if you just want a decent paying job. Go for degrees if you have aspirations for working in a career that requires one. And then of course you need to make connections and pay your dues to rise in the ranks.

What questions have I "shied away from"?Ghost wrote:That would explain why you shied away from some questions.Devil Dog wrote: I have already mentioned in the other thread that a friend of mine is in this business. I was right up front that I DO NOT DO IT. I have never done it because:

If you are referring to questions about income or documenting income then that is not something that gets shared unnecessarily. To think that it is appropriate to ask for that information is only a sign of your social retardation.
Re: Why do ALL of my friends have jobs and I don't??
lol. You are the unemployed misfit who can't hack making money or getting women in the US. $400 per day, which I listed as the top of a range, is not exactly big money although it may seem like an astronomical figure to you.Ghost wrote:Then don't make any claims about how much one could make, dumbass. Especially not absurd ones like you did. One could,in theory, make $400 a day doing a lot of things. Doesn’t mean it is realistic, and if isn’t a realistic expectation, leave it out. You’re like the Robert Kiyosaki of this forum.Devil Dog wrote:What questions have I "shied away from"?Ghost wrote:That would explain why you shied away from some questions.Devil Dog wrote: I have already mentioned in the other thread that a friend of mine is in this business. Re: Why do ALL of my friends have jobs and I don't??
I think the realistic outcome on this would be to charge $20 or $25 like Ghost said it was reported. You may have to be knocking quite a bit to get the (non-repeat) customers, and depending on location this might involve quite a bit of driving. Perhaps one could do 4 sets of lights per day, for $100 bucks. This is not too bad if someone is unemployed and needs to come up with something.
The extreme of $400 a day would probably happen doing eight jobs at $50, but i think someone willing to pay $50 won't have fogged lights in the first place(?); I don't see it. Again there's time spent on knocking doors and there's the actual buffing time. As far as dealers go, I think they probably have their in-house chump for this.
I also agree this is not strictly a 'business'. Like cornfed stated, it's more like self-employment. And thing is, in my experience, in low capital stuff like this, if you get "helpers" in an attempt to expand, they usually try to split once they learn the skill (i have past experience in house painting).
For $100/day with no prospect of expansion (assuming I'm right for a second), it might be better to learn a trade and look for an actual gig that pays somewhat more. I insist that if one is willing to sand etc and get a little uncomfortable, there's stuff out there, at least to tread water for a period.
Addon: I found a couple links on some guys that do detailing in San Diego (Californiasylum). They charge $69-$100 for headlight restoration, but they seem a full fledged and advertised deal already, so it's a chicken-or-the egg question.

On a different HA note, look at this Carlsbad bitch report on her detailing service on 9/26/14 Lol so predictable

After a friend had too much to drink and blessed my new car these guys came the same day I called and my car smells amazing(thank god) and looks brand new! Definitely will be having them clean my car again! Thank you so much!
Interesting thread.

Re: Why do ALL of my friends have jobs and I don't??
Good points, I do disagree with DD in that he tries to make a parallel between jobs and women, but they're somewhat separate deals. While money making requires say 80% character and 20% percent looks-height in America, it's the other way around to get the women, although physically favored dudes refuse to see it.Ghost wrote:Since I can work abroad and the women are far better abroad, that's where I'm going. I don't want U.S. women. Even if I could attain good financial success here, I'd still have to travel abroad to find worthwhile women. AWs are bitchy, slutty, entitled, and masculine. I wouldn't date them. I wouldn't date females like your corporate-owned dick-licking daughter.
Nice punch line I must say Lol.Ghost wrote:Well, actually, I would.
But it would cost you $400 a day.

Even crappy minimum wage jobs anyone can do such as flipping burgers at McDonald's now require experience. The real reason jobs require experience these days is because baby boomers have been taking all the jobs, making it very difficult for millennials.hammanta wrote:That said, I would think vocational skills are more useful than having BA degrees and a lot of BS degrees as well. So regarding the job market, America is paradise for baby boomers and hell for millennials.

Even before the recession jobs were hard to get.

Re: Why do ALL of my friends have jobs and I don't??
Even when the economy was booming in the 90s? Back then, you didn't have to apply to jobs online although the Internet became mainstream. The online application process is one factor that screwed up the job search. Not only employers don't hire strangers, but a lot of the time, many job postings online are fake.newlifeinphilippines wrote:Even before the recession jobs were hard to get.
If jobs were hard to get before the recession, even during the economy boom of the 90s, it's likely that the current wave of man-hating feminism plagued both the job market and the dating scene at the same time, if not screwing up the job market before plaguing the dating scene. It seems like now it's taboo for a guy in America to try to find work as well as trying to get dates and flirting with women in public.
