I think I'm going to have to bail out. I looked at the map today and San Diego looks to be about 6 or 7 hours from Las Vegas. Marklambo said it takes him 5 hours but he drives at 80mph, which I don't do. On the map, it looks to be almost twice the distance I just drove from Prescott, AZ to Las Vegas, which took me 5 or 6 hours. Wow.

Either way, I'm kind of tired and drained after a 5 week road trip and feel like resting and enjoying some peace and quiet. I just don't feel up to driving 6 hours again, especially through California traffic, which is messy and stressful. Driving in Arizona and New Mexico on the open road was easy with little traffic, but California roads are very crowded.

Plus I got a lot of work to catch up on and am anxious to go back to Asia too. So I need to rest and recuperate, while I try to catch up on stuff. I really wanted to go, but my mood doesn't feel up to it. Also, it's hot outside and I want to stay out of the heat and rest in a cool and comfortable house. I'm all tanned from hiking everyday the past month.

Fschmidt and Drealm, will you be able to find public transportation from the airport to the border ok?

Check the discount airlines. I have heard Southwest has good rates to fly from Las Vegas to Los Angeles and to San Diego.

Winston fly to San Diego and meet FSchmidt and DRealm, or fly to Tijuana and I'll pick you up. Do it man.

Public transportation shouldn't be a problem.

There is a bus that goes from the airport to downtown San Diego and from downtown take the trolley all the way to the border. That would be the cheapist option. Or you could rent a car and park at the border.

Bus 992 goes from the airport to the American Plaza Trolley Stop. From there you take the blue line to the border. The trolley is $2.50 one way.
So why don't you join us?

Jester wrote:Ok so I'm coming in late here to get caught up and throw in my 2 cents

It sounds like the plan is shaping up as follows:

RIGHT NOW:
--Everyone should let FSchmidt know right now:
(1) If they are coming Friday 6/27
(2) if Hotel Ticuan is OK

...so he can tell them how many rooms to reserve.

-- Also consider providing FSchmidt with your phone number to facilitate meeting up. (You can PM me too if you like, and I will reciprocate!)

THEN
-- FSchmidt reserves rooms
-- FSchmidt posts a map of the parking lot and the McDonald's in San Ysidro where you will all be meeting.

FRIDAY AFTERNOON (6/27):
FSchmidt and DRealm fly in separately to San Diego and catch cabs or trolley to San Ysidro.

DJFourMoney takes the bus down from LA.

HornyABC (and a friend or two?) drive down. Car(s) then parked at border parking lot.

FSchmidt designates a meeting place, perhaps outside McDonald's in San Ysidro at 5pm. Everyone except me meets there.

FSchmidt leads you guys across the border, on foot.

I meet you guys with my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Army-color (olive drab), and we go to Hotel Ticuan, check in, pay, drop off luggage.

FRIDAY EVENING:
Meet in lobby.

Hit the Zona Centro, to, um, take in the sights, escorted by our personal DJ (I am volunteering him for this.) Not that he's ever BEEN there

SATURDAY MORNING
--We meet, in lobby
--go out for coffee
then we take my car and
--go to a Farmers market (it's called something else, I forget) that FSchmidt knows about, and eat breakfast there.
-- go to an upscale shopping mall right nearby, again escorted by FSchmidt, and take a look at upscale eye candy.

NOON SATURDAY:
-- OPEN TIME(See below.)

SATURDAY EVENING:
-- Nice restaurant in TJ (my suggestion).
-- Maybe find a friendly bar or club with some non-pro girls (my suggestion).

SUNDAY MORNING:
-- Meet in lobby.
-- Go out for coffee.
-- Check out of rooms
-- Mexican Power Breakfast

SUNDAY 12 NOON
-- OPEN TIME (See below.)

SUNDAY 2PM:
-- Drop DRealm at the border so he can stand in line for 3 hours to get back to the USSA, get to San Diego airport by 7pm, catch his 9pm flight home).

SUNDAY 3PM:
--OPEN TIME (See below)

******************************
SOME OF MY IDEAS OF WHAT WE CAN DO IN OPEN TIME: (Please add your own, or designate which of my ideas you personally like)

TIJUANA
-- Drinks in TJ and shoot the breeze.
-- souvenir shopping -- great prices, haggling necessary.
-- Las Playas de Tijuana

SOUTH OF TIJUANA, DOWN THE COAST
Or head down the coast in my car and see the sights.
-- beautiful gringo-friendly high-rises on the beach (doesnt have to be that far south)
-- some art galleries in Rosarito or further south in Puerto Nuevo. Great art, great prices.

ENSENADA, WHICH IS FURTHER SOUTH, PROBABLY BEST FOR SUNDAY AFTERNOON OR MONDAY:
-- Just south of Ensenada, the Bufadora peninsula, famous tourist site and blowhole, great views and hiking
-- ocean swim and barbecue at my place on the beach in Ensenada (2 hours south of Tijuana)
-- raw shrimp, octopus or clam cocktail with beers outdoors right at the beach
-- the Ensenada real estate tour I mentioned earlier, including trailers foir sale, houses for sale, and houses for rent
-- a sample Spanish language class in the small, classy, peaceful tourist zone of Ensenada
-- although I don't really know how to fish at all, there are fishing boats in Ensenada and I am sure I could find a skipper who would take on newbies
-- poking around town to see how different classes live
-- souvenir shopping, great prices, no haggling necessary (unless you're a hard-a**).

WAY SOUTH, 2 HOURS SOUTH OF ENSENADA IN SAN QUENTIN ( MONDAY OR TUESDAY)
Old timey Mexican fishing village, migrant workers picking strawberries, I can show you how the people live. And yes the women there are interested in gringos.
I need confirmation of what time on Saturday are you guys meeting at the hotel? Taking the first bus down will have me their no sooner than noon-ish, however long it takes to get a taxi to Tiguan (is this the meeting place?).

Send me a PM, FSchmidt has my email address also.

Fschmidt, Jester and myself will already be at the hotel. We're checking in Friday.

It's hotel Ticuan.

Ticuan website:

Ticuan address:

Av. Miguel Hidalgo 8190
22000 Zona Centro, Baja California
Mexico

Yes I think we can try to meet you at 12noon. But why don't you PM fschmidt and get his phone number. If you arrive earlier just call him.

Hi all this will be my first post. Mostly been a lurker. Winston we've traded emails in the past even before this site started (long long time ago). You can IM me if you like.

But I saw the email on you guys going to TJ. I moved to SD 2 years ago and in Mexico every week. Just wanted to give you heads up and the map to the Border entrance on page 2 of this thread is outdated. The new entrance is on the same side of the trolley. Walk behind the McDonald's and trolley up the back alley.

Since you are all going there on Friday I agree HK, AB, TB, LC are good places. If you are looking for non-working girls on Friday night then go to Alebrije. Friday is ladies night. But Saturdays are good there also.

Also this Saturday there is a Beer Festival going on in Rosarito.

http://www.sandiegored.com/noticias/507 ... Beer-Fest/

Dont forget Mexico is playing against Brazil this Sunday so if they win the place will turn into a party town. That's what happen in the last game.

As for places to eat in TJ

1. Mision 19 (Very Nice)
2. Pampas (All you can eat Brazilian BBQ)
3. La Difernencia
4. La Justina
5. Urbano Gasto Bar
6. La Caza Club
7. Caesar's REstaurant at Hotel Caesar's (Urban Legend has it that is where the Caesar salad was invented).

My bus down hits the Greyhound terminal in San Yisdro around 10 am, give or take. The bus that takes me across the boarder departs at 11:25 am. According to Google Maps, it takes 9-10 mins (for those that walk average pace) to get to the boarder crossing. Instead of waiting an hour plus for the bus to take me across, I can just walk across and take a taxi to the hotel, which would have me there around 10:30 am.

I will give FS a call when I hit the boarder.

The Aftermath:

It was a GREAT meetup. Met FSchmidt, Drealm on Friday evening, and DJFourMoney joined us Saturday.

We all had time to get to know each other. Really interesting and informative. And also therapeutic and soul-cleansing.

Honesty with honest men.

Besides sightseeing, ogling, eating and drinking, we exchanged views in women, bride-finding, and where to live in a conscious community.

Would do it again anytime.

PS good to know you guys!

You were right, it was IMO a perfect venue. Great location, good food, great service in the bar, and above all a large comfortable lounge aarea to hang out and talk.

And PS yes chica-friendly too... a bellman offered me to procure...

Overall well-worth the extra dough

+1 for the winning suggestion

Oh and not that anyone asked but... what were people like in person?

Well...

FSchmidt is a hard-ass tough-guy Jew... but he is a LOVABLE hard-ass Jew.

DRealm is a shy-guy... but underneath he is a WORSE HARDASS THAN FSCHMIDT. (I know that doesnt seem possible.)

And DJ is NOT NEARLY the hardass he seems to be online. BUT he DOES race cars, and also has great business ideas. I mean who-woulda-thunk-it?

And meeting up in person is definitely, definitely worth it.

Hope more of you guys can come next time.

We had the meetup and I think everyone who came would agree that the above is true. You can never know people through a forum like you can by meeting in real life. I really enjoyed meeting those who came and I hope to meet more guys in future meetups. I hope someone organizes another meetup in a few months.

I wish I had came. Did you guys go to Ensenada? Or do any p4p?

I thought on Monday or Tuesday you guys were going to Ensenada. What happened? Jester, are you still in Mexico? You said you had property there right?

What did you do during the weekend?

LOL, I am not a hardass but the whinnying needs to stop at some point and action taken. It's way to easy to curl up into the fetal position and be mad at the world for dealing you a bad hand in the poker game of life.

Fschmidt is perfect example of not claiming to be a victim and taking control over his destiny. He is actively helping others, which in this case is drealm and I'm sure he's willing to help more if they'd stop complaining and want to take solid advice.

It was somewhat disappointing for more not to appear. We spend quite a bit of time talking and it was interesting to find out more about some of the people on the forums.

This should become a regular thing and I highly suggest if it must be regional then make it regional. At least once every few months a few board members should meet up to get a better understanding who is behind the screen name.

There's no excuse for men on here from the South, Midwest or East Coast not to meet up, including Canadians.
