"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
the courage to change the things I can;
and the wisdom to know the difference."

....

While I certainly agree with much of your view and sympathize with anyone in any culture who has been cheated or taken advantage of the issue here is whether the entire culture or country itself is a scamming, lying, cheating culture. If a tourist travels to NYC and has his pocket picked (which happens every day of the year) does that make NYC a city of thieves? OK, having lived in NYC in my past and been robbed, maybe that's a bad analogy :)

The point I am making is the OP made a series of blanket statements about an entire country of 100 million people based on his getting cheated and having his heart broken by a girl. This makes no more sense than my stating that 10 million New Yorkers are thieves based on my being robbed once. ...
But even more egregious to me is using quotes from the Internet to prove the OP's point. My God, it's the freaking Internet!! Google anything and you will find scores of people who hate it.

So, here we have a new member of HA (who we all know is not really a new member) with 20 postings hating PI (multiplied by the other forums where he has undoubtedly spewed the same shit) and what do you get? The Internet - where most truth is drowned out by the 1% of people who post the most.
Dear Chaste Filipina,

I think one of the things here is that no one likes his native country/motherland to be criticized ( especially destructively) by foreigners. Most of us do not even like our city, province, or village to be criticized by those who are not from there even if it is true. The same goes for our family, religion, etc.
For example, I am originally from Ukraine and even though I am not a citizen of that country ( and never was) I was still born there and I do not feel good when someone starts criticizing it even if it is true. Especially if they do so disparagingly and generalize.
However, it does not mean that all things must not improve, corruption must not be reduced everywhere and we all do have to aspire to stomp out injustice, dishonesty and keep making our world a better place. All of us have to aspire to that.
For example, in Ukraine racism used to be rampant. Tourists or students who were not white would be attacked. One Korean guy went there and was slashed to death just because he was of another race. Arabs and Africans were beaten and some were killed. Is this good? Nope! If somebody dies there, I feel terrible. They are guests there and they paid money to study and chose that country, and they left their family to be in that country alone. Many complained online, on youtube and then Ukraine was shamed in the media for being a hateful and racist nation that hates blacks and Jews and Arabs and everyone who is not lily white. Well, the government there swore to start taking action. They jailed skinheads, they promoted tolerance and things have improved.
I love, actually I adore the Philippines but it must improve just like any other place must continuously improve. I did one thing there, for example. Back 20 years ago, the Philippine immigration was very unfriendly and it was called Committee for Immigration and Deportation. They used to be rude to me at the airport making comments about Americans and asking what I was going to do there in a threatening way.
So, I wrote a long letter to the immigration at the airport and asked them to stop being masungit and to remove the word "Deportation" from the title. Well, they did it. They are now called Service with a Smile, they are very polite and friendly and welcoming and there are many young people working there.
As far as the cheating taxi drivers, also, many improvements have been made- at taxi stands near department stores the guards now give passengers who are about to get into taxis small cards with the number plate of the taxi and numbers to call if the driver starts acting up. They even have boxes on that form that you can check if the driver refuses to convey a passenger, if he acts arrogant, if he overcharges, etc. I even saw a band on one of the overpasses where they were announcing fines and different punishments that would be meted out to drivers who commit the habitual offenses of asking for extra money above the meter fare, refusing to use meters, refusing to go to the destination that passenger gives them. Things are improving.
In newspapers many Pinoys write about how shameful it is that when foreigners visit or invest or retire in the country, the locals so very very often cheat them. It reflects bad on the reputation of the RP. So, people talk about it.
A TV or radio campaign would also be good.
I understand your comparison with pickpockets in NY, but in New York waiters would normally bring change, taxi drivers would use meters. Pickpockets are criminals, taxi drivers should not be. Waiters should not be.Sure, bad things happen in America, too and there is cheating and corruption, too but we must fight it there and in the Philippines and everywhere.
Americans sailors who got Pinays pregnant and left them are bad. Pinays who cheated Americans are also bad. So, we should do everything in our power to reduce that. Talk to people, educate them, etc.
For example, the US military used to be very arrogant and ill mannered. But in the last decade or so, the US government carried out a campaign to educate soldiers and sailors who are on leave to act respectfully towards the hosts. They had radio announcements, educational seminars and now US military men are much more courteous than before. They are still not perfect but things have gotten better.
Pretending to be a lover and taking a foreign man to the cleaners while he is in your country is a bad thing. Someone needs to work on that problem. Perhaps some day that, too, will be reduced. Seminars at schools, colleges etc would be a good thing. Just my few thoughts on this.
In whichever country we are, we always have to try to improve the world around us. It is just the right thing to do.
"God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
Cheating taxi drivers, racism, corruption and dishonesty, greed and lack of guilt, cruelty, selfishness, lack of compassion, lack of hospitality are all things that all of us can change if we all work together no matter where we are. It may take time to do it and sometimes even changing one person at a time can help make the world a better place. One less selfish person, one less corrupt and unscrupulous businessman, one less cheating woman, one less irresponsible boyfriend. Yes, it is going to take some time, and yes, it is not easy to change people but it is our duty to do it.

SORRY TLDR . . .

T- OO
L- ONG
D- IDN'T
R- EAD

If you experienced unfortunate events while married to a Filipina,
why are you even tolerating about it?
Shouldn't you leave her and begone with it?
Why whine in this forum?
Haven't I told you that you need to forgive those people who have wronged you?
Its not my problem to begin with, its "yours."
Why can't you just swallow the chill pill?
If you can no longer stomach your life in the Philippines, then GET OUT ALREADY!!!

What's the use of venting your sorry state?
If you will not do everything to remove the cause of your misery, then you will always remain where you are.

Simple, isn't it? :P

To whom was this addressed? I hope not to me. I am not in the Philippines. I am not married to a Filipina.
If someone had a bad experience anywhere he wants to share it to warn others. Nothing wrong with that. If Filipinos have a bad experience in another country, such as in Saudi, they share it on TV and in newspapers etc. The Philippine gov't lodges a protest with Saudi. Why can't others do it?
Why do you call it whining? If people are abused and they share it, I do not see it as whining.

DO YOU REALLY LOVE YOUR FILIPINA WIFE IN THE FIRST PLACE?!?

From what I can speculate on your posts, looks like you've just tasted a roller coaster ride from Hell.
So you were earnest at first that your Filipina wife is the one who is going to change your life, but the Devil becomes Her. You felt sad, cheated, betrayed by the one person you hope was your

EVERYTHING.

You tried to adjust to the way of life we Filipinos do, but you just can't do it.
Its not a matter of preference nor a matter of strength.
You just don't have the will to accept and understand things as they are.

Holding grudges will not do you good for I have my own share of experiences.
Only different from your circumstances, yet it still the same if it leaves a bad, corrosive aftertaste in your Heart and Mind.

But I am telling you that you have the power to control your destiny.
You are the master of your own life.
Why did you go on a journey and settled in the Philippines in the first place?

Filipinos will always look at foreigners because it is in our nature to look at new things.
Don't tell me you don't do this to anything that might have caught your fancy :P

Children of foreigners here in the Philippines are not bullied because we love looking at them.
They look like living dolls, smiling and laughing.
Aren't they adorable creatures? :P

I'm sorry that I might have hurt your feelings and I disagreed with your opinion.
I was offended because you are already stereotyping Filipinos just because of your experiences.

Let go already!
You will find it totally exhilarating when you finally let go of things that will give you pain and misery.

If I'm saying this to you, take it as an advice from a friend. No more. No less.

You are already aware of the fact that people will no longer respect each other because people is always thinking of themselves first. "ME FIRST" mentality aka "SELFISHNESS."

I don't know why people still treat their own brethren like that.
What's the use of the teachings in religion if you're not even practicing them?
Are you doing lip service? All talk and no walk at all?

THINK ABOUT IT.

MIND OVER MATTER

We are already aware that people with that kind of character exist.
Not only in the Philippines, but you will always find them around the corners of the world.
You may warn other people here in this forum about your plight.
Thank you for sharing your own experiences to us.
But please lessen the emotions, the readers can feel all those hate, anguish, and torment from your posts.

I thought this website practice respect.
But I think the people in here do not even respect other people.
If unity is what you desire, then you are clearly doing the opposite.

Are you really writing this posts to inform us?
Or do you want to argue and convince us that you are right and everybody else are wrong unless they agree to your terms?

You say things that will really end up contradicting yourself.

To people who looks down on the Filipinos and the Philippines.
I really don't care anymore. Do what you want and I will do what I intend to do.
I won't post anymore because this is clearly wasting my precious time.
I just posted because you know already the reason why in the first place (things will become redundant).
All of you are judgmental. Don't even try to say that all of you are not.
Your actions are proof.

I'm sorry because I'm not like you people who have already become cynical with other human beings.

Its in my nature to bring out and to believe in the best of people.
That's my only difference to you people here.

If anything bad happens to me, I cry because I am upset.
But I will never hesitate to forgive them.
Humility gets the better of me.

I'm sincerely sorry ladislav...

My message is intended for DevilsAdvocate.

Its not for you.

Don't worry ladislav. I am not angry at you. In fact, I agree to your point of view. You can't blame people for being like that. We can only educate them, but it is no longer in our hands to change them.

For changing oneself is a matter to the one who decides to change for the best.
Why change the person if that person is self-righteous and stubborn?

Can you see my point? :)

I just got burned by the sweetest talking most kindest smartest girl I ever talk to in my life. We have talked every single day by phone for the last 7 months.

And she just got back from a convent where now she is "holy" and "blessed", after taking $5,000 in cash from me. And after accepting $5,000 in gifts.

Now she is "holy" and "blessed".....

To me it's absolutely mind boggling that a human being could be this way, and no American girl I've ever know is like this, not even the Russian girls have this kind of hypocrisy, or level of lying.

So I'm all through talking with girls over the Internet, it's absurd, I can have lot's of very good looking girls right here in the USA, it's a joke that I would go overseas to find a girl. But I did so believing that Filipinas were godly honest girls who were way better than USA girls.

I was wrong....

Girls are girls no matter where they are, and there will always be this "game" between men and women, a never ending constant game between them....

Now I know better, and I know never to trust a girl again, especially with money.

In fact I don't even know that you aren't the girl that has done this to me....

Signed,

Devils Advocate

DevilsAdvocate, you should have bought your time.
7 months? That's not enough time to fully know the character of the Filipina woman. You were only talking through phone?
You should have actually meet her in person.
You can easily fantasize the person you are talking in a phone.
Because you will never know what kind of expression that woman is making while the two of you are talking on the phone.

Yeah, only girls and boy do silly "mind games."
What else can I say except they do this and that to show who is in the upper hand. Maybe that's why real relationships are rare nowadays because of that psychological shit little boys and girls do.

Nope. I'm not a girl. I consider myself a woman even when I was a teenager. No use trying to defend myself here. My maturity will choose to just shut up because people will never try to understand.

Next time DevilsAdvocate, use your Head in making decisions.
Don't ever let your Heart decide.
Emotions always betray you.
Infatuation will never give you the happiness that you seek.
Only true, unconditional love is the only one that can give you the kind of happiness I am hopefully praying for you.

Charge to experience! :p

Good Luck and God bless! :)

I've been to the Philippines twice and pretty much everything Devils Advocate has said I've witnessed there. Having said that, I don't believe they're all like that. Just the majority. This is what generalizations are for. I understand his anger and bitterness. I'd be pissed as hell too if I was taken for that much from someone I thought was supposed to love me.
They are master manipulators by nature. No shame unless outed by a peer. I have stories too but I shan't bore you all any further.

The Main Problem With Filipinas

Posted: July 31st, 2012, 9:12 pm

Regardless of what the Philippines is like, the biggest problem there is with Filipinas is they are too darn sexy.

What do you get when you mix 50% Asian with 50% Spanish?

Smoking hot, sexy as can be....

That's the problem with these girls, how is a man to resist them?

There is just something about these girls, they are just bad bad bad, and that makes them good good good, or should I say hot hot hot....

I cannot resist these girls, no possible way....

It truly is more fun within the Philippines because of the girls....

It's Filipina all the way for me, I cannot resist them....

Yes but where in the world is it not folly?

I once went and got myself one of those hot Russian girls, and boy was that a mistake.

Come to think of it though, you are in Mexico and I do think it's true that Mexican girls are good girls, who do make good wives.

I guess I should have gotten one a long time ago.

Hmmm, Mexican girls, the problem with them is they aren't so easy to find, I mean sure lot's of them around but most I think are taken already. But yeah if you could find a good one I do think they are great women and make great wives. (Plus they know how to cook Mexican food which is a big plus)....

I guess there always are options out there, it's a big world.....

But I still like Filipinas, if you find a beautiful one that's half Asian and Spanish they are so exotic looking and hot looking and sexy. It's like taking a hot looking Mexican girl and hot looking Asian girl and putting them together to produce a Filipina. I like the mixture a lot.....

chaste_filipina?

I would suggest you ease up on Devil's Advocate a little. IF he went through what he says he has, the man has every right to vent and "let it out!" THAT is what the internet is for.

I find it odd that you take such offence to what he has written. SURELY you have known such people in your life? I know I have. AND aren't you also being judgmental towards DA, and this forum?

Sorry, I don't believe in giving forgiveness so easily. IF that is the way it is supposed to be, then what incentive is there for the guilty party to ever change? IF we continue to forgive the sinner, then doesn't the sinner continue to sin? Doesn't there have to be some "negative" social consequences for the sinner?

I personally believe in the power of shame and guilt on a societal basis. I believe that people whom do wrong to others should be ostracized, held up to public ridicule, and then, after a few such "lessons" if they continue to do so, ejected from society permanently never to return.

People don't change, don't correct their behavior UNLESS they have compelling reasons to do so. "Easy and Painless" forgiveness actually reinforces bad behavior to a certain degree. Having no social consequences for their actions is one of the MAIN reasons why MY country is disintegrating more and more everyday IMHO!

I have a problem with people whom tend to bury their heads in the sand when it comes to problems their countrymen/woman cause or rise up in "self-righteous" national pride when challenged about such behavior.

After all chaste-filipina, it's not OUR country, it's YOUR country. We. as in westerners, are just visitors. We cannot vote, we cannot own property, we cannot become citizens etc.... Ironic since if you came here, you could be/do all of these things and more.....even run for most public offices!

Isn't it ironic that Ladislav, whom isn't even a citizen, affected change in your country?

In closing, IF you want to be proud of your country and your people, then you MUST acknowledge the good AND the bad. Let people share their experiences, negative or positive.

Speaking for myself as an American, it can only lead to honest appraisals and perhaps real change!
