Is Thailand still like this?

Discuss culture, living, traveling, relocating, dating or anything related to the Asian countries - China, The Philippines, Thailand, etc.

That's about $30? A lot more than it used to be, but not bad, by modern standards. Especially compared to the Philippines. Plus, unless you're staying in a 5 star resort, the food is going to be crap. They think that spam is a delicacy because it is imported. Bleah!

I have another question: back 30 years ago, Thailand had 2 types of girls: those who remained virgins until marriage, and prostitutes. Very little in between. Back then, I was only interested in cavorting with the prostitutes, anyway. Do the majority of Thai women still like to preserve their virginity until marriage? Or, do Thai men and women no longer care about such things?

Majority - no. Some - yes. As many as in the past - hell no. It used to be that if you had sex with a virgin you were expected to marry. Now if you get them pregnant, some expect you to marry.

Filipino food is complete garbage compared to Thai food. Fattening as hell and most of it is lousy-tasting.

What about the Sinsod? A virgin ought to bring in a premium Sinsod for the parents. Parents of a divorcee or single mom shouldn't be entitled to anything, but will probably still extract what they can from a farang.

Do virgins entering the prostitution industry still command a premium?

Sinsod is something that has become more of a case-by-case basis. Yes, virgins bring more money, as does a good education, and a woman being from a good family. However, some families do not ask for it. Or, if they're truly decent, the money comes back to the bride and groom.

Paying money for a prostitute, a divorcee and / or a woman with kids is almost always unnecessary. Some guys do it either for kindness or stupidity though.

Not many real virgins entering the P4P industry nowadays.

One other thing that seems to have changed: marriages between Thai women and men from the UK and Northern Europe (especially Scandinavia) have really picked up. From what I can tell, most of the women are from Northeast Thailand, and a lot of them are hoping to marry a Farang who will either buy a nice house and retire to Thailand, or bring them to Europe.

Around here (the upper Midwest), you don't see very many Thai wives--Filipinas are more common. (Actually, most of my compatriots wouldn't even be able to find Thailand on a map, as you well know).

Is Thailand starting to reach a saturation point? Do Thai women who want to marry a Farang still vastly outnumber the Farangs seeking a Thai wife? Or, is the ratio shifting to the Thai women's favor?

Regarding the virgins entering prostitution--that must have been something that I read about Cambodia, where Japanese tourists will spend a lot for a virgin.

You need to come here. You're living in memories of the past. Thailand has changed a lot. I find it difficult to fathom thinking about moving to a country "to find a wife" and in fact, of all the people I know and associate with, I don't know any who came here for that purpose. None.

I came to train in Muay Thai and screw hot Thai women. I never had the intention of getting married although I wasn't opposed to getting married. That said, I would say aside from the dirt poor farm girls, the number of Thai women who desire Farang husbands has decreased from 20-30 years ago. In the past, Thais weren't so blatantly mercenary as they can be now.

Virgins are a hot commodity in Asia but why anyone would actually pay to have a virgin is beyond me. It's one thing if you end up with one but to pay for one, I don't get it.

According to a 2009 article

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2009/05 ... 103341.php

the MAJORITY of single Isaan women would prefer a Farang husband.

I think that Isaan women also account for the majority of ladies in the sex-tourism industry.

So, yes, most of them are dirt-poor farm girls. Probably where you are in Bangkok, you are interacting primarily with middle class and professional Thais, who wouldn't see any advantage in marrying a Farang. The Isaan region may have lagged behind the rest of the country's increasing prosperity.

I remember Thais as being very nice, and even the harlots as being the most exquisitely charming women in the world. Other women don't even come close.

Pandabear - like I said, come here. You can read, philosophize and think whatever you want. It's still just conjecture.

I lived for a year in Udonthani in Issan, which is the poorest area of Thailand. Not to say that the Issan province doesn't have some good women, it does, but being the poorest are it attracts the most sex workers and the most financially strapped women.

I wonder why an Issan woman prefers a Farang husband???

I dumped an Issan girl while living there. She and I were on two different levels emotionally and intellectually and frankly I was bored out of my mind. If someone wants their wife to follow their every command, to never do anything without asking their permission, and who is intellectually stunted by most standards, then an Issan girl is probably good for them.

If you want an educated, intelligent, strong, confident woman, this type of woman is not as easy to find in Issan for most foreigners. By most I'm including you Pandabear. Come to the country, get to know the culture as it is today and the people, then start considering finding a girlfriend. Looking online for love, at least here in Thailand, is unnecessary and is asking for trouble.

I'm guessing that relatively few beautiful and educated Thai women would have any interest in a Farang in his mid-50s, whereas among the poor Issan girls, we can pretty much have our pick of the litter.

If this is true, then that would be another big change for Thailand:

http://top-10-list.org/2012/04/09/top-1 ... ful-wives/

"59% of women living in Thailand admitted to cheating on their husbands. The rules seem more relaxed in Thailand than they are in the West. Many husbands even allow their wives to commit adultery."

Back in the day, it would have been unthinkable for a decent Thai woman to commit adultery, whilst her husband might have a mia noi or three, in addition to visiting the brothels regularly.

How is moving to a country to find a wife any worse than movin to a country to find a job?

Oh, I don't have any illusions about a lovely 19-year-old having a mutually hormonal reaction with a 55 year old. It would be a quid pro quo arrangement. But, hopefully she would remain loyal, and not dump me as soon as she met someone better.
I wouldn't count on that. Just get what you can out of her asap so you haven't wasted your money.

Women say they are equal, so why be surprised about them being equally as unfaithful?

Just come here and see for yourself. Most are not feminists by any stretch of the imagination. Like I said, at this point your opinions are purely conjecture and not based on fact.
