Interesting Blog from expat on Phils online dating

Post by Camp38 »

I came across this blog by what appears to be an older experienced Brazilian expat. The focus is on the phils and dating & meeting women online via various dating sites. He admits being scammed himself and this provided the incentive for him to warn others. The advice is sensible and applies anywhere when dealing with online communication.

An excerpt from the article/blog:

Mistrust immediately girls that in the 2nd or second chat call you "mahal ko" ("my love") or "you are the guy I have been waiting for all my life.â€￾ Is quite unlikely. Maybe I am cynical or it is all the result what I have seen in my life, but I do not believe in the so called "love at first sight". Specially, based on a picture alone, that is probably fake, belongs to somebody else or has been “Photoshopped" to the very limit.

I noticed in many net cafes, hairy chubby Filipino 40 ish men or ugly middle aged women typing a girl's name on the screen or a couple, obviously GF and BF, typing also a girl name in the screen. I guess on the other side of the Ocean, there was a foreigner madly in love with his Filipino princess.

If they already start to talk in the first chat that nobody is working at home, "scam ahoy", for sure she will ask you money for groceries or rent very soon, claiming that they are starving and the landlord will evict them. In reality, she is "cooking you" and feeling for how much you are worth.

Yeah I am new to online dating. I have to figure this stuff out. But looks like paid sites give more responses. Probably there is much more fake than in free sites or girls like things men who pay for dating sites are already rich sucker who are easier seperated from their money. There is a free part at HA dating where the old and ugly are. Really disturbing.

That paysite is one of the best worldwide. I met my wife there. I met many good prospects there. I know the owner, they work 12+ hours everyday to police it and kick off scammers. They know what all the clothes models and celebs in Asia look like, speak the languages, and ban scammers very quickly. I never found a scammer in the two months I was a subscriber. I ended my subscription after 2 months because I had more than enough women to talk to on QQ messenger and skype.

Stop wasting your time on free sites like 99% of HA people do. 12 dollars a month won't kill you. That is better than spending money paying Xbox and MMORPG subscription money playing videogames. That is cheaper than a paid porn website subscription and much much cheaper than a fleshlight or other nasty sextoys and blow up dolls.

Nothing really new in this blog, but I'll comment anyway :)

First, the posting is 3 years old which in the Internet dating world is quite old. Doesn't make him wrong but it does feel dated.

The real question is not are there scammers, liars or just plain not good people on the Internet - of course there are. The real question is how to find a good one.

Like many commenters, he spends half of the article discussing various scams he encountered. The answer is very simple. The moment a woman online with whom you are not in a relationship asks you for money - that should be the end of your interest. Drop it right there and do not chat with her again. Simple - do that and you are now immune to most scamming efforts.

As to the notion of hiring a PI, that might be a good idea, but remember there are scamming PIs as well. One of the most reputable ones in the Philippines always says that by the time a customer contacts him to investigate his girl - he already knows something is very wrong.

As to the notion that a girl with super great looks online must be a scammer. Could be but not necessarily, The corollary to this statement used to be, "if she poses in model-type pics or bikini pics she is no good." This statement was based on the idea that a good girl in the Philippines would never pose in a bikini (hell she probably didn't own a bikini). That's changed a bit - maybe the Facebook influence. So I do know some good girls with model-type looks and who now post more revealing and/or professional pics.

You should always be wary but if you start out assuming they're all bad - that's what you're likely to find.
