Hello everyone, this is my first post on this website. I would first like to give the reason why i would rather live in Singapore, also a little about myself, but i am mainly asking about any experiences or what you think i should do or any thoughts. I live currently in Canada, Ontario and feel like a complete alien in my own country. I have also got to say the girls here are probably the worst in the entire world. They are all very feminist, too masculine, Anti-religious, entitled, stuck up and generally of low quality, with impossible standards who are ignorant about my beliefs(which are very important to me) and pretty much everything outside of Canada. I am not too picky, but Most here are fat with tattoos all over their bodies and mental issues, just like my ex gf. The country itself is pretty much falling apart at the seems, especially since Justin was elected prime minister, i no longer feel welcome here as a man or happy. I just feel absolutely depressed living here, discriminated against and ostracized from all of my peers because i don't fit the"Canadian RedNeck" archetype, so my only hope here is online dating(don't even get me started on that). I don't even consider myself a bad looking guy either or socially incompetent, girls call me hot all the time, i pretty much look like a mix between Micheal Cera and Kirk Cobain. But they are far too picky and wouldn't want to deal with someone with differing beliefs or values as them, they would only label me out as a elitist, a radical or"Shallow" I am also a very devout Buddhist, virgin, Slav, my family all came from former Soviet Czechoslovakia. Which i have found people here are completely ignorant of all religion, my values, my beliefs and simply have a completely cold and hypocritical attitude to all of them. The men are actually just as bad, were all castrated, whipped pussies, just like my weak father.
Now as for my reason for Singapore. The first language there is English, the most prominent religion there is also Buddhism,(Mahayana no less, which is my sect). The city seems far cleaner then any depressing, cold Canadian cities here. I also like Asian girls and would rather marry someone who is Buddhist like me. All i want in life is just to settle down with a wife and have kids, but i have found that it is completely impossible in this country unless you bend over and take it in the ass. Marriage in the west is a complete scam and i simply found myself giving up and not trusting western women anymore. The only thing that kinda rubs me the wrong way about Singapore is the drug laws are draconian compered to the rest of the world and i like to smoke weed to help my meditation. but i would be much happier living there, and feel like i can intergrate into their country far easier then here. So any thoughts, questions, advise?
Although I don't have first hand experience in Singapore there is a common denominator regarding the information about Singapore.
Singapore is expensive so helps that you have wealth or at least some sort of income if you want to come to Singapore. Singapore girls do care about materialism more so than let say a main land Chinese girl or a filipina but it doesn't mean you can't get a Singaporean girl.
I think it also helps if your not too old and fairly decent looking. It's preferable to be white or Asian in Singapore.
I am actually pretty young. I am only 22 years old. Ya i know, i have done lots of research about it. I will be saving up money for the next year or so to get out of the country. You also gotta consider jobs probably pay more there and also that not everything is super over priced. Like food for example is pretty cheap i've heard.
I love Singapore, but if you fancy living there - better forget about drugs man - because what drugs are there will be out of social circles of the expat circles you will end up mixing in. (Which leads me onto a second point - what can you do in Singapore - a living and a job? Banking, finance, shipping?)
The locals - like most Chinese cultures are pretty much anti-drug. A good way to get anyone from a Chinese ethnic background in Asia to think you are an absolute bottom dwelling loser is tell them you smoke recreational drugs - so - if I was you, I would think about Thailand - that would be a far better fit for you.
Hmm maybe, my temple is all Thai so it could work better for me plus they are wayyy more Buddhist. Idk how widely spoken English is there though, i could learn Mandarin since my temple runs alot of classes in it, but still. As far as for work, i would probably end up working at the docks there in shipping, i have atleast 5 years in shipping/receiving here. Ya i know i can see why too, that is what i am saying, but another reason why i smoke weed is because i am so unhappy here and bored, which would probably explain why it is far too normal here. Plus i really wouldn't want to risk being caned or sent to jail, the people there with weed are probably more dangerous and do harder stuff.
Singapore is essentially a Western country in SEA. It's expensive as hell. The women are feminist.
It's a nice looking city, clean, traffic is dealt with well. Every Western comfort you'd want is there. But you could stay home if those things are important.
Plenty of Buddhist countries out there, don't see why it needs to be Singapore.
Ok thank you guys so much for all the help. I think i have changed my mind about Singapore. It is just that i thought Singapore might be the best option, since English is a first language there. But from what i have read, seen and from your advice, Thailand is by far the best for my personality. The ganja grows in your own friggin backyard there )))))The only difficulty would be learning Thai, but it is best for me there. I am also sure that they have classes there for immigrants, to teach me Thai, it would also be good for me to learn a second language. The people there are also super nice and accommodating.
If you want Buddhist and IIRC Singapore is only partly Buddhist it would seem your best choices are Thailand and Sri Lanka. Unless you have work skills in very short supply locally and at 22 I doubt you have, you will have trouble getting a work visa for anything for English teaching. Thailand pays well by local terms but crap by international standards, I don't know what the situation is like in Sri Lanka. OTOH SL is pretty English at least among the more educated sorts and neither language is tonal unlike Thai. Depending on where you are in Ontario it should be easy to get your Tamil on although they tend to be Hindus unlike the Singalese speakers.
If you want to work in a serious job, Singapore seems to be a better option, IIRC their replacement breeding rate is even lower than Japan and they don't quite have the complex about immigration.
Also just because there are Buddhists [15%?] in Singapore, it doesn't mean they take it all that seriously. As I understand it, they take things more seriously in SEA and Sri Lanka.
Have you looked into Nepal. I am not sure if they be Hindu or Buddhist but something to look into.
Thanks man. i am planning on moving to Sri Lanka or Thailand. I will see which one i can get into easier, doing all the paperwork, getting whatever education they want. Probably Sri Lanka, i was researching 99% of the population religion is important in their lives. That is good, i accept Hindus, it is the branch off of Buddhism they even believe in Buddha themselves so i am totally okay with them, in fact Ganesha is important even in Buddhism too. I am saving money and getting whatever degrees they want. I am not happy here, i feel much more comfortable around people who share my beliefs. We would have so much to talk about. They would also be so interested in what living in the west is like.
Fake Buddhists in this thread aside, I was thinking about Nepal, what with it being the capital of Buddhism. One problem: The Chinese invasion. The local culture is being stomped out by them, and they don't want foreigners anywhere near the "autonomous region" (ha). Singapore is way too strict. They do NOT play games, so that's out. I could go on, but it seems like Thailand is the sane choice. Not trying to get shot up or interrogated. I like my organs intact.
