Pattaya to woo visitors with free rooms
BANGKOK: -- Tourism operators in Pattaya plan to offer free hotel rooms from May 1 to Oct 31 to attract local and international tourists during the low season.
Apart from hotels, restaurants and shopping malls will also join the campaign, offering discounts up to 50%. Final details will be decided tomorrow.
The seaside resort city is facing difficult times because of the global economic recession and local political problems, said Chatchawal Supachayanont, president of the Eastern Chapter of the Thai Hotels Association (THA).
"With this campaign, we hope tourists and meeting, incentive, convention and exhibition (Mice) activities will be lured back to Pattaya again and tourism sentiment will improve as well," he said.
Mr Chatchawal said Pattaya's hotels had about 20,000 rooms and that all operators would join the promotion.
"This is the first time we have had co-operation from all parties, aiming to restore Pattaya's tourism image," he said.
"Average occupancy was not so bad at around 30-40% after the Songkran festival. But we are very concerned about reservations from overseas, which are not coming yet."
Pattaya's image took a hit just before Songkran when red-shirted protesters forced the cancellation of the Asean Summit after they stormed the meeting site, the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel.
Operators in Pattaya hope that when Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva goes abroad he will be able to explain the problems in Thailand and how the government intends to solve them, in order to restore confidence among visitors.

They had some riots before but it has been contained now. It's not really dangerous there, the media tends to blow things out of proportion. It's like if there was a protest, its only contained in one small part of a city. But if you were to watch the news they make it look like there is total anarchy, which is not correct.
Whatever reason they decided to hold ASEAN summit in Pattaya is beyond me but because there were protests and some of them blocked the hotels that the representatives were staying, there was a lot of international news media. Now because of that many people that aren't familiar with Thailand are changing their vacation plans for other destinations.
One thing about Thai's is that they bottle up their emotions and are generally calm most of the time. Then occasionally when something stressful or emotional happens to them all the pent up emotion tends to explode in one moment. This is why whenever protests happen weird shit follows as it's a period when people can truly release their emotions. Kinda like when they have their yearly water holiday in April, a lot of uncommon shut happens cause they let loose their fake masks and do stuff they normally wouldn't do.
Free rooms and reduced airfare is just too good to pass up. I think I may even actually be able to afford going there for a couple weeks. Considering I would probably pay more just going to Angeles. Having to pay for a decent room every night adds up and if its free and the town is discounting everything then hell why not go there? Rainy season kinda sucks but it's similar to Philippines where it will rain hard for a period of time usually in the afternoon then clear up. Big deal.
If you have extra money and can put off going back to Philippines you might consider visiting Pattaya in May. You would be able to control your spending if rooms are free and bars discounted. The flights from Taiwan are probably cheap as well.

I'm sure they are. There are shit loads of girls there and less customers means a buyers market. The girls will either lower their prices in desperation or go back home to their provinces. There are generally less girls during lower season anyways but I think there are a good number who have little choice but to hustle their bodies for money; for one reason or another...Shokkers wrote:Moreover, are the Ho's dropping THEIR rates as well? That could be the clincher.
The biggest problem you would have to worry about is figuring out how to get rid of them and not have them trying to get with you again the next night. Thai girls tend to try to stake a claim on you, its a bit different from Filipina's. I've had girls try to give me hickies so they could mark their territory so to speak.

Mr S,
Between Bangkok and Pattaya, which would you recommend and why? Are they both the same price? Does one have an advantage over the other?
BTW, I would venture to guess that the free hotels are only for one night. But even so, I guess you could just stay one night at every hotel offering this. lol

That's like asking which is better: Manila or Angles City/Subic/Puerto GalleraWWu777 wrote:Mr S,

It all depends on essentially the same factors. do you like big cities with their inflated pricing, but with loads of nightlife variety? Do you prefer a more economically viable destination with many of the same look bars but with lots of woman available. Usually the girls are better looking in the city as well, hence the higher costs of playing with them.
Bangkok is good for maybe a week if you can afford it and have never been there and like to explore new places and experiences. Its a bit more expensive than other parts of Thailand but it can also provide more variety and unique experiences. It's more developed and advanced than Manila, it doesn't get boring as fast as living in Manila area does. There is so much good nightlife it doesn't get boring, just expensive.
Pattaya is along a beach with huge variety of nightlife and daytime things to do at way lower prices than Manila. If you were to take the nightlife of Angeles, multiply that by 100 and you have Pattaya. You could probably live there a month and still not see everything or experience all the bars it's so big.
Phuket is a decent destination also, pricing falls in between Bangkok and Pattaya. It's a bit smaller than Pattaya, but still is bigger and more advanced than Angles City.
Essentially if you're just vacationing in Thailand I think its more fun than Philippines in the short term whereas Philippines is probably better to live and work as its easier to deal with the locals and culture than Thailand is in general.
I think if they are offering free nights it's in conjunction with a significant discount on rooms as well, either way its a good deal.

In my opinion Pattaya is a shit-hole, too many people trying to hustle you, way too many tourists. Bangers is better because of the variety of places to go and thing to do – in Pattaya you are pretty much stuck with Walking Street.

Additional Information about hotel discounts:

Well everyone has different interests and tastes. Some people like the shadiness of places and find them exciting as it provides a different daily adventure for them. Also depends on you personally as some people attract different types of people off of the energy and physical representation they admit.
Why do people like Angles City? It's a shady shit hole too, actually much worse than Pattaya. I don't mind going to dodgy places as I don't typically get into trouble and avoid the worst elements around for the most part. There is a lot more to do in Pattaya than just walking street, there are many surrounding Soi's and beaches as well if you don't mind going off the main tourist areas. If your wanting higher class entertainment than of course walking street is one of your main options, but most guys go cause they like dive bars. You can also visit neighboring cities like Rayong and have fun for a night or two.
Bangkok nightlife is more sophisticated of course and if you have more money that the average person to spend then of course you may prefer hanging out in the higher end bars and clubs as it won't dent your wallet. Some people like the bright lights and energy of the city with all its options. I've actually gotten conned and harrassed more in Bangkok than I have in any other city of Thailand, so I guess it's more about personal experiences. I can have fun in either place, but I end up spending more in Bangkok than other places so that affects my participation in activities. Also I find the woman to be not as cool to hang out with as the ones on the beaches. Just my opinion, but have had generally shitty experiences with girls from Bangkok. They seem to all have attitudes or something.
I look at it this way if someone likes Angeles City, they will probably like Pattaya. If they don't like Angeles than maybe they won't like Pattaya, but still they might as Pattaya has many more options to keep oneself entertained than Angeles.
Everyone likes different things and places and that's why one needs to do careful research before visiting a place they have never been to before. Like I didn't like Cambodia, but many people I know do. Or likewise some people I talked to hate Vietnam, but I didn't mind it. Some people Like Bali, I hated Bali. Some people like Korea, I hate Korea with a passion. Some people don't like Japan, I had some good times there.
So whatever floats your boat, just don't always take just one persons opinion of a place...

Like the thread says, Winston, you might want to try out Thailand instead. It be a nice change from Philippines for at least a while and besides I don't think you can live in China as I read your previous posts in other boards. I had a great time in Taiwan every time I go there since I have family there and did alright with Taiwan women but I had a blast of a time as a businessman in China since I love the Chinese language and culture. I wouldn't mind trying out Thailand just for fun when I have chance someday.
W: But my advisor Ladislav said Thailand is very materialistic and that people there only like to talk about money. Did you hear about that too?Jake wrote:Like the thread says, Winston, you might want to try out Thailand instead. Why would I fit in there better? Cause of the bars?
In the Philippines, some expats have told me that I don't belong there because I'm way too intellectual for Angeles City. lol
I guess wherever I go, I am always a perpetual outsider in some way.
But anyway, theoretically, in a country like China with over a billion people, statistically there must be some who are different from the mainstream and who think like me. Right? Why can't I just befriend and date those types who are more open minded and progressive?
Even my parents tell me that in China, I would be very popular and have a lot of choices. So with many choices, one can choose those who are like him, right?

Yes you can find other open minded women in China as there are more variety. Out of half of 1.3 billion people, there a bound to be women who are just like you or you have chemistry with them comparied to half of 23 million people. You might want to stay away from Shanghai area women as they are materialistic and money oriented as Shanghai is like the New York City of China not to mention I've heard that Shanghai women expect men to kiss their ass and buy and do many things for them even cook for them. Focus on the smaller cities like Xiamen and their nearby suburbs as their suburbs are cheaper in almost everything. Speaking the language and dialects and understanding the culture helps a lot. Perhaps you should take a trip to China instead if going to gogo bars in Thailand isn't your thing. Or goto both Thailand and China while you still young and healthy and explore new horizons. I have yet been to Thailand but I want to go some day to Bangkok, Changmai and Pattaya.WWu777 wrote:W: But my advisor Ladislav said Thailand is very materialistic and that people there only like to talk about money.
