I recently stumbled onto the Russian news website "Pravda.ru" and actually found it had a lot of interesting reads and alternative news you don't find from western news media. I added it to my preferred news sites. I recently came across this article written by an American, I don't agree with all of what he says but I find I agree with his anger over the idiocy of the American government and their policies.

I wonder how hard it is to switch citizenship to Russian? I wonder what the stipulations would be? Anybody have any wild guesses?

Having been an information organ of the Communist Party- the one responsible for close to 30,000,000 deaths overall, I am sure it provides an "interesting" read. As in most countries' newspapers, there is an agenda and the tendency to "criticize a speck of dust in another person's eye while ignoring a log in one's own eye". And there is the leftist plus a nationalistic agenda and perspective. Interesting to read, but they do not as a rule give a fair assessment of their own f--- ups.

You will find Iranian press an interesting read, too, and any other kind of press. But do not be taken in by anyone's twisted and biased logic just because it presents an alternative view.

The only good thing about Russian media is that they routinely cover good and interesting cultural things about other countries. They also have a law that 50% of news has to be positive. The same goes for Russian TV- they introduce singers from other countries- and songs in other languages (Americans would immediately tune out and switch the channel),movies from other countries in other languages- dubbed or subtitled- Americans by and large would immediately turn them off ( unless these are from fellow Anglo countries) international cultural events, travel to other countries ( on mainstream TV) and how people live there, what they do, etc. American TV covers US and maybe UK and bad things about other countries or where the US is at the moment militarily. Anything else is covered in National Geographic for those who are interested in other cultures, and it costs money.

Otherwise, Pravda has been responsible for cover ups, slander, misinformation, propaganda of untold viciousness and perverseness, and, well, deaths of thousands of people. Take everything they write with the same grain of salt as what anyone else writes.

Russian citizenship? Hmmm. I would ask that on Dave's ESL cafe. It is apparently not so easy. Ethnic Russians from Ukraine and Asian republics have a tough time getting it, and while the citizenship is hard to get, Russian nationality ( an ethnic concept) is impossible to get. People born there cannot get it, let alone foreigners. You can never become Russian ethnically just like you cannot become Chinese or Japanese.

Well what I meant by interesting reads is the weird news stories they have on there, I guess that is their version of "positive news". I'm not considering changing my citizenship or support what Pravda has stood for in the past, but what the writer was talking about regarding changing his citizenship to Russian and burning his American passport, so I was wondering how feasible his threats actually were.

I guess the guy threatening to burn his US passport in Pravda will please certain anti American elements there enough for them to actually consider him as a good candidate for Russian citizenship. Ibid for some American in Iran who would talk about the Great Satan and threaten to burn his passport. Kiss up to the Devil and he might just grant you a passport from hell.
