I have found the ones born or raised in the continental USA to be similar on questions of race as other Americans. Some prefer men of color, some do not.
However, those born or raised on the island of Puerto Rico have proven to be the most color-conscious and racist women on the planet. I come to this decision based on my personal experiences living there and the experiences of other men of color down there. There is no such similarity in thinking in Puerto Rican men however. In fact, many of them seem to prefer women of color.
The ironic thing is, Puerto Ricans tend to vociferously deny they are racialist by claiming such idiocy as "We all have some black in us!" Trouble is, there treatment of people of color or darker hue is despicable. I'm talking out and out rudeness and sometimes hostility.
One example was the time I was waiting for my take away order at a posh restaurant in upscale Condado. A women walked in the restaurant with her family and handed me her keys and gestured about her car as if I was a valet. I simply laughed at her, and she got the point.
Puerto Rican society is very complex and what you see is not what you get. It is full of denial and baggage from its colonial history. Darker-hued people are often associated with Luisa Al Dea (poor black area) and the Dominicans, two sectors of society that are marginalized and sometime reviled.

well you're correct and the reason why I wanted to ask a person who's been to the island is cause I'm working on a video project call "pros and cons of Puerto rican women" and since you said puerto rican women are the most color-conscious and racist women on the planet, I find it very true.Contrarian Expatriate wrote:I have found the ones born or raised in the continental USA to be similar on questions of race as other Americans.
