Why teaching English is probably the only option for most

Postby sentinel89 » Mon Oct 19, 2015 1:24 am

So there's only a few ways to get employed and make a living (as far as teaching goes, I hesitate to say "make a living") in Colombia.

1.) Teaching English - this is the easiest way, but your life will be completely miserable unless you bring some extra spending money with you. With extra spending money, you'll be able to go out on the weekends, eat good, travel, take girls to the motels, etc. The only way you can live well here as an English teacher without tapping into savings is to either get a job with the British Council (need CELTA + 2 years experience and be a resident of British or commonwealth state), find a job working for an International School (need teaching license in home country and probably personal connections with school down here), or land a job with a bilingual school (probably your best bet, but will still likely require some teaching qualifications). Otherwise, you're going to be slugging it out with some crappy institute like International House that will have you work shitty hours (6-8am, 6-8pm, and maybe even 12-2pm in the afternoon leaving you no time for sleep) and require you to travel all over the city in shitty public transportation. It's not such a bad deal if you only plan to stay for a few months and bring some extra spending/living money, but keep in mind, most institutes will charge you a penalty for leaving before 6 months to cover visa fees. If you want a job at an institute, just show up and say I want to work. They'll literally hire anyone regardless of qualifications. It's a complete bullshit job. If you are content with living a crappy life and not going out, and maybe all you want to do is sling your dreadlocks around and linger all over La Candelaria as a wreteched, unbathed pothead, then you may not need extra spending money.

2.) American Embassy - this is probably the second most likely place to find something, and if you can land it, you'll live like a God down here. But, you better have prior connections or it is very unlikely.

3.) Multinational Firm - Unless you work for a firm that has a division in Bogota, forget it. Even if it does have a division in Bogota, it's still a slim chance.

4.) Domestic Colombian Firm - Almost 0% chance. I don't care if you are the best accountant, engineer, IT technician, whatever. Just forget this option. Even if you were able to land a job, it probably wouldn't pay all that much. Possibly not any more than a language institute.

If you want to come to Colombia for an extended time (more than 2 weeks), I'd say just bring down a decent amount of savings, rent out a moderately priced apartment, and have some fun. Come down for a month or two. Also, don't take anything seriously down here. Business is very sleazy and contracts mean absolutely nothing. People will waste your time. Just roll with the punches, have fun, sleep with hot women, and always have an escape plan (f**k you money)

Meanwhile the MGTOW will tell you going overseas is the only option cause you can't bring her back to the states according to them (when most men who get married to those women who are unattached to the military usually do bring them back). Or your other option is to use hookers and porn until retirement age, at which point your rusty skills with women will be effective, and you'll still have enough testosterone to actually still care about looking for women.

Option 5.) Marry Colombian from wealthy family. 0% chance.
6.) Marry a Colombian woman and live hand to mouth there in Colombia.
7.) Bring woman back to USA, work a normal job, have a normal life without worrying about living and working as a foreigner.
Look for women who automatically want to please you because it pleases them. Any woman who seeks to please her man is a treasure. Even better if you don't have to ask but rather suggest.

I agree that #7 is probably the best thing. A lot of people have the idea that they'll come down here and live in harmony with all these "warm and friendly Colombians." They're terribly mistaken. The only caution I'd advise about #7 is to be damned sure you know the girl well before you bring her back. Of course, you could never completely negate risk, but you can mitigate it to a level that is manageable.

Yup, choose wisely. In Japan, there are men who have been falsely accused of groping women on the subway. A woman anywhere in the world of any nationality can make a false accusation against practically any man she wants and probably get away with it, except for perhaps in a few Islamic countries. A woman at work can lie and say you said something that offended her at any time.

Is the solution to move to a different country with different workplace rules more friendly toward men? Or is it to only socialize with women who will do so on your terms, regardless of where you are in the world? Perhaps the solution is to only socialize with women who agree to your rules. If she works with you and wants to date you, either she must be the one to make the first move and declare it before the whole organization, or she ought to be the one to resign her job and then begin the relationship with you. Why must the man be the one to run away from everything he has ever worked for simply to possess a woman? The man is the prize. How do I know? God made Adam in His image. Then He made Eve from Adam's rib. That's about how equal Eve is to Adam. She is a member of his body.
Look for women who automatically want to please you because it pleases them. Any woman who seeks to please her man is a treasure. Even better if you don't have to ask but rather suggest.

But teaching English isn't such a bad deal in Asia, is it? I've heard of people saving 10k+ in USD a year, free apartments, bonuses, airfare, etc. Or, were you just referring to the part about not taking anything seriously and having an escape plan?

From where did you get this idea? To be deliberately accused by a woman out of fantasy for a non-existing sex-crime is very rare in Japan and punishments are not feminist-friendly at all. No pussy-pass.

In Japan it's not about filing a false police report like in Western countries, it is about 'extortion under specially despicable circumstances' - A felony, jail up to 10 years.

I know only about a few convictions, for example this one:

OSAKA, Oct. 24, 2008 (AP) - (Kyodo)
The Osaka District Court on Friday sentenced a former college student to five and a half years in prison for fabricating an accusation of groping against an innocent man in order to claim settlement money.
The defendant, Fumiyuki Makita, 24, 'caused tremendous humiliation to the falsely accused victim' to fulfill his greed for money, Judge Hiroaki Higuchi said. Prosecutors had sought a sentence of eight years in prison.

Judge Higuchi Hiroaki (about the harsh ruling after the trial) :
Such a crime (=false accusation) makes women hesitate to report (real) sex crimes and creates a serious (complicated) situation for an arrest of sex criminals and prevention of sex-crimes in future - the bad influence which gave this crime to our citizens can't be overlooked.

Mother of falsely accused groper who killed himself seeks justice

Kuchikomi May. 12, 2010 - 04:08AM JST ( 53 )

TOKYO —

Early in the morning of Dec 11, 2009, 25-year-old Shinsuke Harada killed himself.

The venue he chose was one he knew well from his university days – a platform at Waseda subway station. Not long before, he had had a dreadful misadventure. At JR Shinjuku Station, he’d been jumped by two male university students whose female companion – all three had been drinking – accused him of groping her. They beat him and dragged him to a police station, where police interrogated him throughout the night.

Guilty and never proven innocent – every male train rider's nightmare in Japan

TOKYO —

Tales of subway groping are unfortunately commonplace in Japan, and anyone committing such a pathetic and cowardly act deserves every punishment given. But what happens if you are falsely accused? Often filled well beyond capacity, there is a real possibility of such a thing happening if you ride the trains running throughout Japan’s major urban centers. No matter your innocence, with a 99% conviction rate should the case go to court, one Tokyo lawyer says the best thing to do if wrongly accused is, run.

Attorney Takashi Nozawa provides the following advice to anyone who might find themselves caught up in this nightmarish, no-win situation.

False Allegations Go Global: Japanese Men Worry about Bogus Claims of Groping

How to avoid being falsely accused of groping
While Japanese director Masayuki Suo is being praised for his “groping for justice” in his new film “I Just Didn’t Do It,” the prospect of being falsely accused of touching girls on a packed train remains very real. Mainichi’s latest WaiWai column has translated some advice on the matter from a weekly magazine:

So to keep its readers out of trouble, Asahi Geino provides what might very well be the most comprehensive advisory ever published on how to avoid being falsely accused of groping.

This is why you have to always do your own research. Don't trust the words of anyone.

False Accusations of Groping in Japan are so common that there was a movie made in Japan about it!

http://lovehkfilm.com/panasia/i_just_didnt_do_it.html

I Just Didn't Do It

A confused Teppei Kaneko (Ryo Kase, second from left) is detained
and accused of being a "shikan" (molester/groper)
in Masayuki Suo's thought provoking film I Just Didn't Do It.

Kaneko Teppei (Kase Ryo) is your average, unsuspecting and nondescript young working man (salary man) who finds himself in a living nightmare one morning as he makes his way to an job interview in Tokyo. Running late, Teppai jumps on a packed subway train. Young junior high school student Furukawa Toshiko (Yagyu Miyu) just happens to be in front of him. Trying to pull his stuck coat jacket from the train doors, he brushes up against the student several times. However this seemingly innocent action soon becomes the basis of a "sexuhara" complaint made against him by the girl.

Stopped by transit authorities, he is detained and forced to spend several nights in a local jail. Police inspectors grill Teppei about the incident in an attempt to force a confession. A Public Defender assigned to him recommends that he confess to the offense as a lengthy trial would only make things worse. Stubbornly, Teppei refuses to admit to the crime. Teppei's mother (Motai Masako) and "freeter"/slacker best
friend Tatsuo (Yamamoto Kohji) try in vain to retain an attorney to take his case but as one candidly admits unlike on TV dramas, most don't have the experience to handle such criminal cases.
Look for women who automatically want to please you because it pleases them. Any woman who seeks to please her man is a treasure. Even better if you don't have to ask but rather suggest.

Thanks man. Another option to consider is doing volunteer work. A volunteer agency might be able to set you up with cheap accommodation, and it would give you something fulfilling to do while you're down here, because it would be hard to fill every hour with activities for 2 months if you're just here strictly for fun. It would give you something to do without taking up too much of your time. Plus, volunteer projects will look better on a resume than a job teaching English would. Furthermore, there's a lot you can learn from them. If you're interested, I have heard some good things about http://www.volunteerlatinamerica.com/

Here's a decent one in Medellin where you can learn Spanish and live for cheap. It's shared accommodation, but don't worry, if you want to bring a girl back to your room, there's plenty of hotels catered just for sex that are very cheap. You don't need to bring her back to the hostel..

^^$1,700 per month for everything. Bring $1,000 for spending on fun and you'll have a blast. $1,000 round trip plane ticket from the states, brings your total cost to $3,700 for a fun month in Medellin learning Spanish. Far better deal than teaching English there for a year.

That's your problem, along with all the other MGTOWs who advocate celibacy for extended periods of time before expatriating to a foreign land: the specific lack of knowledge, although your "field status" abroad confers upon you the status of knowledgeable. Yet you can spread this so called knowledge around to thousands of impressionable young men who have been hurt. This is the solution: abstain from sex for a few decades, then switch countries and go where women could never hurt you, because the law prevents them.

That's a lie. In any country a woman can utter false accusations. These MGTOW act like this only happens in feminized societies, but it happens everywhere. What would those MGTOWs say when a young man is charged? Well most of the MGTOW are so anti-male themselves that they will say that the man got what he deserved for daring to interact with women period. He should have known better and he had it coming. Or they only "know of a few" of these cases, when apparently false accusations are commonplace. So much for what you know.

This philosophy of eliminating the presence of women out of a man's life for decades only sets him up for failure. These men already have no idea how to handle woman, but they are supposed to wait for years without women, or enjoy the company of filthy prost*tutes and watch porn for most of their young adult lives, in the hopes that they can save enough money to one day move to another country where the women will be much more awesome. If the man is able to save that much money, will he even know what to do, after 20 years of abstinence and no experience actually "conquering" a woman without using his wallet? After the decrease in testosterone, will he have much of an interest in finding a wife or having a family?

And what about all those missed years where the young man was burning with passion when his testosterone was high, but he is told to wait until his testosterone is lower to finally be with a woman? The young men who fall for the MGTOW nonsense are being cheated out of their youths by a bunch of old men who do not care if they get to get married and procreate. These same men will advocate adopting the children of 3rd worlders (noble in itself), OVER these men having their own children.

Anyone following MGTOW needs to stop. MGTOW are the same as feminists, but without the support of the government.

Sex with a woman = traitor.
Marry a woman in the US = traitor.
You must avoid all female contact, until you reach Shangri La.
You must only visit prost*tutes, enriching them into the millions while impoverishing yourself.
Masturbate instead of seeking female companionship.
Do not have children.

That is the same as feminism. Separate men and women, delay marriage and child birth as long as possible. And if possible, get the sexes to hate each other. Even worse now though, is that most of the MGTOW have as much contempt for sexually successful men as the average women have for Nice Guys.
Look for women who automatically want to please you because it pleases them. Any woman who seeks to please her man is a treasure. Even better if you don't have to ask but rather suggest.
