Culture?

I am not cultured by a long shot, but I do enjoy some fine things. I was curious what places like Chiang Mai,Bangkok, Davao, Manila, Brazil, and Colombia have for culture. I am into jazz, architecture, hacking (hacker spaces), politics, reading, finance,fishing, banter, among other things. What do these areas have as far as thing in the same vein?

Fishing and light banter are popular in almost all countries.

Architecture is popular in Latin America and Europe.

Politics is popular in the Middle east, Europe, and Latin America

Reading and jazz are only popular among Europeans and Anglos.

Re hackerspaces -- thanks for introducing this, never heard of it before!

Looks to me like this is going to be likely in Europe, AngloZone, and perhaps Japan, and nowhere else.

Looks like your "homeland" is Europe.

But of the places YOU mentioned, I would say Sao Paolo, Curitiba, Medellin, Manizales, or Bogota. In that order.

Well, except for the reading part.... Latins CAN read, but they DON'T.

PS If you ALSO want to live and work online without paying local tax on income earned online (as I recall from another thread), then Uruguay would be the place. Like Argentina without the taxes. Also Uruguay is an egghead country (for Latin America, anyway).

Actually some places in Mexico could work for you too. Ensenada... Guadalajara... Mexico City. There are young hipsters, and jazz music. IMO Ensenada is the best value among those. All of the benefits with none of the crime and pollution. Ensenada is where I'm going to try.

Actually I think Buenos Aires might be best for you. Culture, bright quick-minded people, music, architecture, politics, English-speaking expats who have businesses and jobs (not retirees).

Keep your stay just under 12 months on tourist visa extensions, exit via ferry to Montevideo, then re-enter. This is to avoid tax residency.
