Hello...been living in Thailand for the past 17 years, traveled around most of Asia and other parts of the world. Been to Russia twice, Colombia, Nicaragua, Netherlands, and like I said, just about everywhere in Asia.

So how did you find us? What do you like about Thailand? What advantages are there to living there?

Yeah, what's it like to live there? I'm currently in Southern China. I am getting a little old to be dating 20 something girls, so maybe I'd be better in Thailand.

China is OK but it's not that much fun here. Everyone seems too busy to go to bars and let their hair down. And dating here is quite hard work.

I just wonder about the weather though. Is it just too hot? I find Guangzhou isn't a bad temperature - not even had the aircon on yet.

What do you like about Thailand?

As I said, I've been all over Asia and other parts of the world, including Colombia and Russia. Thailand is the most laid back of any of the places, it's cheaper than the U.S. (not always cheap), the women tend to be very attractive, and now I've been married for many years to a Thai and we have children together so I've settled here.

What advantages are there to living there?

Low cost of living and relaxed lifestyle. If you're single, the women are excellent. But before getting serious with any woman here, I always suggest you get to know the language and the culture. It makes it much easier to know if they're sincere.

What's it like to live here? Hmmm...hard to say now since I've been here for a long time. It's home now but I always feel like an outsider. Thais will say, "Oh, you are Thai now." First, I don't want to be Thai, and second, they may say this but it's not true. I'm a farang (gweilo) to them and always will be.

China is OK but it's not that much fun here. Everyone seems too busy to go to bars and let their hair down. And dating here is quite hard work.

I've been to Beijing and Hui Li. I was in Beijing for the Olympics, 2 weeks, and in Hui Li for a week. Both times I was working so I didn't have much time to go out. But in Beijing I met several university students and they were nice. But as far as romance, it definitely seems more restricted and difficult. I find Singapore to be the worst of all the Asian countries simply because the women are always talking about work and making money. I find that irritating. I work to live, not live to work so my philosophy is different than most Chinese / Singaporeans.

It can be extremely hot. From April to June or July it can be brutal at times. But that's what air-conditioners are for. Actually, if you live in Chiang Mai or Pattaya or down in Phuket near the beach the whether is tolerable.

What I always say to people wanting to move here is that living here is not the same as coming on holiday. There is no perfect place, Utopia, or paradise. Every place has it's positives and negatives. Thailand has irritants and has great things about it. Food, inexpensive housing, friendly people, and the laid back atmosphere are positives. Greed, discrimination, and attitude by some Thais are negatives....along with people jumping the queue in 7'11 (which I always say something about so they know it's rude) and doing stupid things like standing in front of an escalator with their entire family to make decisions. When you're in hurry or having a bad day, these little irritants become a pain in the ass.

Yeah I have plenty of irritations to deal with here in China.

I'm glad I didn't come here when I was 20, I just wouldn't have had the tolerance for the crap that I have to put up with.

The queue jumping is an irritation, especially to a Brit who was taught from an early age how to queue.

Also Chinese guys can be jerks so much of the time but you have to take it on the chin because you just don't know who's packing a knife, or who's a kungfu expert.

On the upside, being a good mannered guy will win you many many boyfriend points!

Also I hate people throwing litter everywhere, and people handling all the dry foods in supermarkets. I even saw a little kid playing with the rice.

And learning the language is always recommended. Not least because you're much less likely to get scammed.

I'm fairly new here, too. You have an interesting background and it sounds like you lived the life by being abroad. Have you had a chance to stop by Cambodia?

You mentioned that you were in Colombia for a period time. I would like to know of your experience of being in Colombia was like and how much did you like it?

Some general questions: How long were you there? What's your opinion of the women and Colombia's dating scene? What did you think of the culture? Do you think it would be difficult to live there and obtain citizenship? Any negative experiences/opinions? Anything else you can add? And how does it compare with Thailand, which sounds like your favorite country.

I'm wondering because Colombia is a place I really want to visit (and South/Central America) after I finish my time in the military and if I like it, I might want to live there if it's feasible. Colombia sounds like it might be a good fit for me. I just heard good things about it from its food, weather, beaches, cost of living, its women and dating scene.

I've spent quite a bit of time in Cambodia and have been there between 30 and 40 times.

My time in Colombia was limited to two weeks. I had no negative experiences there and thought it was a place where I'd like to spend more time. One thing I noticed is the women take very good care of themselves, even the fat chicks were sexy.

I'm older and no matter where I am I feel it's best to take any relationship very slow. Thai women are pretty mellow, which I like, Colombians can be aggressive and forward. I like both but in terms of a relationship, I prefer mellow as there's less drama.

In comparison to Thailand...again, I only spent two weeks in Colombia but my feeling is that Thailand is a much easier, laid back place to live. BTW - I would definitely visit a few times, or 6-12 months before deciding to move to a place.

80% of the talk was about p***y and girls....I truly believe Americans are obsessed with women and sex...This guy was angry because he could not find cheese, Macaroni in a store in Thailand...

and the comparison between Thailand and Philippines and His life story and how tough he was and beat up Thai's and a European guy etc...It was all about HIM...He wanted to make all others looks small and weak by his tone it seemed.

There was no real substance in the Podcast..All same repeated cliche's revolving around Nana Plaza, Patpong, Massages...NO NEW OBSERVATION OF THAILAND
