I think it's more a function of time. In 2020, the 1st ones will offer very little, almost cheesy toys [ jacked up RealDolls ] with limited conversation and jerky movements but will cost some $10-$20K. Then, a few upticks in CPU processing/cost, and then, in 2030, it'll almost be like having an actual housemate, but one who can cook, clean, and b*ink. Still, will be limited in range of activities, unless you pay the big dollars like $50-$80K. Then, 5-10 year after that, they'll be virtually indistinguishable from a regular human.

I also went to their website and looked up how much it costs. You can buy the f***ing developer kit set for only 300 dollars. That is cheap as f**k. I was thinking it would be at least 1 or 2 thousand dollars.

The dev kit comes with the VR headset, as well as a few demos, and the software and game engine, so that you can write your own games.

A lot of it has to do with purpose and identity of being a man or for that matter, a human being.

In Japan, some ppl believe that consciousness can exist in both animate and inanimate objects. This is an offshoot of the animism of Japan's Shintoism and perhaps in prior forms of Taoism in China.

In contrast, the view of automation and self-aware AI in the west is that of the Skynet/Terminator thing where in effect, artificial life forms imply the destruction of humanity.

In some ways, both perspectives may have some truth to it. For instance, by separating men & women in the west, Feminism will die an ugly death, as butch dykes will not make for effective leaders and then, we'll have a type of dystopia of everyone b*inking robots and AWs becoming a bunch of zombie dykes.

On the flip side, people, esp men, will achieve a level of independence, not seen before in the electronic age.
