In America not even a college degree will save you from getting screwed by the system..... Some College grads owe up to the next thirty years in education loans!!!

The issue has gotten so outta control, that now American education has become the most expensive in the planet and what they don't tell you is that the amount of college grads exceeds the amount of professional jobs out there!!!!

As a result, PLENTY OF MASTER DEGREES OUT THERE FLIPPING BURGERS FOR A LIVING!!!!

It's a trap and universities in America are doing all they can to get students to matriculate and spend big bucks on them....

In the 50's in America, a teacher only needed a certificate of completion in order to become a teacher, this certificate could be obtained by assisting to specialized classes for only six months and it was absolutely free, you only needed to have good grades in order to be admitted into the classes.....
education in the 50's was a lot better and many of the stuff you learned in high school back then is stuff that only college grads would learn these days.....

fast forward to today and to become a teacher in America you need a background check which you have to pay for, a masters degree on education, extra studies to comply with local state laws, accredit your degree by paying 150 dollars in order to take a test, and THEN YOU CAN ONLY ASPIRE TO BECOME A REPLACEMENT TEACHER!!!! (THAT IS AMERICA FOR YOU!!!) now even teacher assistans (the ladies who clean the classroom and help the teacher with tasks as menial as making the kids lines up ARE NEEDING A BACHELOR DEGREE IN ORDER TO BECOME A TEACHER ASSISTANT

America is such a repulsive place these days!!!

Do I agree that college degrees are overrated? Yes. But if you want to become a doctor, lawyer, accountant or any other professional, than you will need a college degree. Also, if you plan on teaching English overseas, you better believe that a college degree is well worth getting...

I'm curious to know when the public's perception of a college degree started to shift. When I was growing up in the 1990s, college degrees were touted as the gateway to success in a post-industrial America. In recent years, however, a common theme is that most college degrees aren't worth the paper on which they're printed. Oftentimes I hear that "today's college degree is the equivalent of yesteryear's high school diploma." I never heard this when I was growing up. Otherwise, I might have passed up on college in favor of trucking, the trades, or something else.

College degrees were worth more in the 70s, 80s and 90s when it guaranteed you a job more so than today because the economies were better then.

Right now people should be focusing on business, investing or trades.

2 year associate degrees in certain trades will get you good jobs these days.

You need a college degree for certain professions and not for others. Just look at what jobs are available and see the qualifications required.


I got an MA in TESL and found enough work in CA to live a pretty good lifestyle. But that was in the 80ies.

There were lots of CC jobs paying $27-32 an hour. I spent 5 years in LA doing very well.

When I came back in the late 1990ies , such jobs dried up and I went to Saudi. They would not have hired me without a college degree.

Unless you had contacts in those industries to get you a job, the idea would probably be not to bother with them now, as by the time you graduate there will likely be no jobs or the jobs will pay peanuts. The other issue is that most degrees are not worthwhile in and of themselves any more, as they have been dumbed down to allow the rabble in.

Although college degree is not always required to teach English abroad, having one will make you eligible to more jobs than without.

Study abroad programs is also a great way to gain international experience. However it also means carrying heavier student loan debts.

Only a couple of decades ago, a high school graduate with some classes in a community could become a paralegal. Today, even paralegals are expected to produce a bachelors degree, even if it's in some totally unrelated fluff area like Home Economics. I'd consulted for companies, esp finance, where even the receptionists are expected to be degree-ed for the sake of corporate image.

So wherever you work, try to complete some bachelors degree part-time, if you ever want to switch positions in the white collar world.

Some community colleges and junior colleges offer some electrician, air conditioning repair, car repair and many other AA degrees.

The thing is that if you are an ordinary white man, you are not so much submitting to four years of extortion to buy yourself a job, you are submitting to four years of extortion to buy yourself a remote chance of a job. This doesn't make a lot of sense in most cases. The moral of the story is to give up on the whorporate world.

There are plenty of ways for a US Citizen to get a decent paying job WITHIN the USA without a degree. You don't even need an AA degree to be an Electrician, Air Conditioning repair or car repair. If you are a good worker that can actually pass a drug test, there are many employers that can't find enough good employees. I have two brothers that own/run companies that do these things and they can't maintain enough good employees. They keep failing drug tests and/or are unreliable. They are licensed and actually teach their employees all they need to know and to get appropriate certifications. But, employees just keep f***ing up...

You can head to Las Vegas and work at a Casino emptying trash cans for $14 per hour and have FULL Union benefits for you AND your family. You don't even need to know English.

The challenge is getting a job ABROAD and then getting the associated workers pass from that government. Most countries want to see a Bachelors Degree of some sort (at VERY least) and that is becoming more and more common. Why hire you and pay you more when they have citizens in their country that are more qualified than you and who will work for less?

I am bound and determined to get out of the USA and move abroad, but I don't see a way without some additional education/qualifications. I lost my life savings trying to relocated to Singapore without having set the necessary groundwork. I can't afford to (literally) make that mistake again....
