Croatia...some thoughts

Post by Enticer »

When I was in Ireland, I met 6 Croatian gents at the hostel I stayed. One night, we stayed up and talked about life and women in the US vs Croatia.

They came from a small town...all went to school together. Everyone knows everyones business in the town. However, its not a haven for gossip...but more for honor and keeping one another safe and in check. Everyone has land...handed down thru generations. Everyone works hard at growing things on their land....even though they may work in the city/town. 80% of the food grown is organic and grown on their own land. Trips to the "grocery store" are infrequent. if you sell off a chunk of your family land....you dishonor your family and yourself...so that seldom happens.

If you beat your wife or screw someone else...sooner or later, EVERYONE knows and you dishonor yourself and family. So, it rarely happens....except among ex-military who suffer from PTSD. if you get knocked up...you deal with it. Abortion is covered by their govt health care...but again, everyone would know and you'd dishonor your family...

Women of Croatia are beautiful and loyal....again based on the honor system. When asked if a Croatian woman would come to the US with her new american husband just to take his money and split? The answer was this....agreed upon by all 6 men...

If a woman from Croatia meets a foreign man and marries him, she would be proud to have achieved that and guard that success with her life. It would dishonor her family to divorce or pull a stunt and leave, just for money. She would WANT the bragging rights of getting out of Croatia, being chosen by an american man and having a successful life. The mindset on HONOR is quite well imbedded and of utmost importance to them...

Overall, they were nice guys and very genuine....like many Europeans. I may take my 2nd trip there as they have told me they'd put me up for a visit..and perhaps hook me up with a girl...

Thats all...anyone have any interaction with Croatian or nearby women?

I am Croatian and I don't agree. While reading this description of women in Croatia, I had a feeling you were talking about New Guinea tribal people, or something like that. Having said that, these guys you talked to probably came from some some marginal, rural area, certainly not from any city. And while there are certainly differences between culture and worldviews in the county vs. the city, they would be pretty much the same as everywhere - in the country you find less educated people, greater influence of the church and religion, conservative, intolerant attitudes and prejudice, nationalistic hate and patriarchal families. There is lot of family violence, alcoholism and drug use, especially in some areas.

In small towns and villages, you find all kinds of people - mostly families with children, and lot's of old people . Croatia is an ageing country, with birth rates in decline for a long time now. Young people leave rural areas and go to cities, in search for better education and better social life. Outside the cities and the few popular tourist destinations (which are "alive" only during summertime), there is little life - just small kids, few teenagers, and very few young adults. Some places are inhabited exclusively by old people. You just can't meet women in the countryside, only settled couples with kids.

Contrary to what you heard, country life isn't idillic - most people are middle class, neighbours rarely talk to each other, distrust and envy are widespread. Few own land, usually just small backyard gardens, and not many are willing to grow anything on their own. Some families, however, own agricultural lands, raise cattle, chicken etc., and supply local markets with organic food (7% of the population in Croatia).

Population is concentrated in few large cities like Zagreb, where I live. Here, standard of living is higher than in other countries of Eastern Europe and Balkans, however still much lower than in Western Europe, or USA. We have just recently joined EU. Unemployment is high and there are many people that have lost hope and became depressed. Pessimistic views of near future still prevail. Young educated people, especially those trained in science and high-tech, are forced to seek employment abroad. Student population is quite large, and college life doesn't really leave much room for any "life". There is no time, no energy to socialize and go out, except occasionally. Young people are highly stressed and very alienated frome each other.

Croatian women are beautiful, especially college girls. But, they are artificial, unapproachable, snobish and extremelly vain! Men who aren't highly succesful, rich or popular have VERY hard time finding a decent looking girl for a date. Competition is overwhelming for an average male. There are a lot of single, frustrated, lonely men who are on the verge of losing all hope. And 100% of pressure is on them - women are completelly passive and nothing is expected of them aside from choosing a wealthy, high-status male. Of course, there is an elite - like everywhere - a small percentage of men who get all the women, leaving nothing for others. Guys who party on their yachts and enjoy group sex with most beautiful models.

Attractive women in Croatia are after wealth. It is common for them to marry and divorce older, situated men multiple times, leaving with huge wealth each time. Such behaviour, even among celebrities, doesn't provoke much attention any more: it's just normal for a woman to do whatever she can to improve her economic and social status. As a consequence, relationships are superficial, short-lasting and - women hold all the power, at least while they are attractive. Marriages fall apart easily, now even among older couples, and it's becoming a trend for older, successful men to divorce their wives and find much younger girls.

Even worse, there is a quite numerous population of urban, succesful and educated young women who play games with men, use them to enjoy their attention for some time, and then abandon them as pair of old socks. They are empowered feminists who don't really need men any more, not even sexually. What could be men's response to such situation? Increasingly, that is cynicism and withdrawing from sexual market alltogether.

Now, I have been told that women from less developed countries in Eastern Europe, like Serbia, Macedonia, Bosnia, etc., are much nicer, more open and sexual, approachable and "easier to get". I don't really buy it. I think it's allways the same: women are nicer to foreign men from wealthier countries, and more likely to have fun with them simply because they perceive them as high-status, higher-quality men, or because they are just desperate to get away from poverty and boredom of their home-environments.

Hello and thanks...

Yes, these men were from a small town...along the southern coast. They did mention possible hidden situations of violence and alcoholism but said its not something that is overlooked...because everyone knows everyones business. They mentioned alot of hyper conservative christians and that finding a woman in the country may be tough. They also mentioned the economy but all of their parents had land...old land from generations.

Again, I only talked with 6 men...all friends and from the same town. They seemed genuine but also were very young...

Thanks!

The women are given money they didn't earn, simply for having been married to the man a short time?
Sounds more like Western law.

It took me a few years to find out why so many young, attractive, and friendly women were available.
Some of them can be very quick to bring up questions about your job or car, but if you're o.k. with that ...

Well, that explains it. :)

Extreme conservatives form just a small percentage and don't have much political influence, but not even their bigoted viewpoints come close to those of christian fundamentalists in USA. Croatia is a liberal country, and feminism predominates over traditionalism. Women are quite sexually active and they can be promiscuous, but highly selective. They are hard to get for average Croatian guys, but not for wealthy men or foreigners.

The strange thing is, such behaviour isn't even looked down upon. It's just becoming normal to assume that men want women, and women want things what men can provide them with - like money, comfort, status, etc., but also it can be just entertainment, fun, protection, companionship. If you really think about it, women always trade sex for somehting else, something that men give them. It's already a cliche that average guys with no status or money to offer, have to become professional entertainers in order to attract women. You can't be yourself, you need to put on a mask and provide them with a show. Only then you can "get some".

I was there last year, Sauromancer is dead on.
Croatia is westernized country and chicks seem to know their value and how to use it to their advantage.
It is not a place for an average guy, chicks are slutty but they will only make themselves available to top tier guys and the rest are hopeless spectators watching from sidelines

True nature or programmed nature?

Things were much better when you just bonk a chick over the head with your club and drag her back to your cave...

Croatia just voted down gay marriage 65 percent to 35 percent, with the Catholic Church exercising strong influence. It's generally considered one of the strongest Catholic countries in Europe, though that's not saying much these days.

I've spent seven weeks in Croatia over the last three years, and while that's not enough to dispute what you say, I did have the distinct impression that it's much easier to find a woman of high character there than in the US.

Well, among all religions, catholics are the most promiscuous people. It's statistically proven. Not only that, but they also tend to start having sex at earlier ages, leading to teenage pregnancies, they are the most likely to practice premarital and extramarital sex, and the most likely to become addicted to hardcore porn.

Catholicism in Croatia serves primarily the purpose of group identification and differentiation from "others" - Serbs, Bosnians, "Commies", etc. When two neighbouring nations which are closely culturaly related declare a war to each other, they immediately try to downgrade their relatedness and potentiate all differences. In the case of Croatia and Serbia, just like in UK and Ireland, religion became the primary means of group identification and strengthening the "us vs. them" mentality. However, it has been 20 years since the war ended, and while there are still some extremists that continue to spread hate and intolerance, most Croats, especially young people, don't bother with such things and generally strive towards liberal, Western lifestyle. Of course, there are also many people that are only nominally Christians, but really are not religious, and those who are openly atheists, especially prominent intellectuals.

Croatian women, even (or especially) from conservative families, are definitely not shy of using their sexuality to achieve goals.

That doesn't matter, really. Very small percentage of population voted, mostly those mobilised by a religious initiative, and still in Zagreb the results were almost 50/50.
