Ethnocentric countries in Asia

Post by Bao3niang »

From your experience, which Asian countries tend to be the most ethnocentric? In China, the older generation still calls foreigners "yang gui zi" (foreign devils). I've also witnessed the extreme nationalism of Koreans right here in Beijing. However, what I'm mainly concerned about are the levels of nationalism in Japan and the SEA countries (except for Singapore). I'm mainly concerned about Vietnam now.

Which countries in SEA are the most open to women marrying foreigners? Which ones are not as open?

Depends on what kind of foreigner you are.

The Philippines is more open than all of them to all foreigners. There's no foreigner there of any color who does not find a GF.

From then on, it depends. What race are you?

Blond Anglo Saxons ( or those who look like them) do quite well in Japan. Darker ones do not. East Asians do even worse.

Singapore ditto.

China- probably the same.

Thailand- Oriental looking people are loved and accepted. White are second but with a reservation. Blacks, Indians, etc., are not liked.

Ethnic Chinese are not very welcome in Indonesia.

So, it depends.

The Philippines is the best one of all.

Don't know about VN. It did not used to be as accepted in the past. But again, you did not tell the people here what "foreigner" you are.

Just 1 concern about Vietnam is the anti-Chinese sentiment that has stirred up in recent years over the Spratly Islands dispute. Also old Chinese men going to VN to buy brides is giving Chinese/Taiwanese quite a bad reputation. However, realize that technically I'm not mainland Chinese (although I was born in Chongqing) due to my Canadian background, so I don't behave like the typical native Chinese.

To be very honest, the behavior of most mainland Chinese around the world makes me feel ashamed.

Are Vietnamese taught by their media/education system to hate Chinese people just because of the Spratly Islands dispute? I hope most are not brainwashed. Insanity in individuals is rare, but in groups, its the norm....

check out my site at raceanddating.com for ideas on which one is suited for you if you're looking to make racial arbitrages.

Philippines is ok but don't expect to be treated like God especially in upper circles. Helps if you're white though and young. The country is changing perception so you should do this while the going is good.

Black men will do well but you have some work to do, actually I saw some Nigerians doing well so it is possible and some posters here have reported well. Arabian guys.. well.. you must have money. Indian guys.. same.. need money. Check out my youtube channel when I asked if some Filipinas are open to dating foreigners.

Filipinas are easy peasy but at the flip side there are some scammers so be wary. There is a population crisis and the economy cannot sustain all so you are bound to find a gem at a bargain price if that is what you're looking for.

If you're Asian American, I know you are Bao, you will find the Philippines has an extra special spot for you. Guide should be finished by New Year.

There is an active Vietnamese bride market in China. However, most Vietnamese brides must renew their VISA every 3 months and will qualify for permanent residential permit after they've married a Chinese citizen for at least 5 years, and have lived in China for at least 5 years.

The cost of marrying a Vietnamese bride through a Chinese agency in China is approx. 40,000 to 45,000 RMB.

Recently the market for Burmese brides (Myarmar) has also opened, but will cost more than Vietnamese brides.

As for the political situation, I'll just say that where there is no bread, there is no love regardless of political indoctrination. If cave-women stayed with cave-men regardless of his inability to bring home the bacon in 10,000 BC, she wouldn't survive to pass on their genes. She wouldn't even ovulate without adequate nutrition.

Also the thing is that in the future I may go and settle down in VN, maybe HCMC/Tay Ninh, Nha Trang, or Da Nang. Unfortunately I checked on Wikipedia and it says that for Canadian passport holders you still need a visa to enter the country. Seems like these Socialist countries are still quite paranoid Heh.

Chinese people seem to think that it's an honour to have a foreign guy marry into the family. Definitely not the case in Japan.

I don't think Thai people really like foreigners at all. On my last day there I gatecrashed a demonstration outside my hotel (labour dispute/strike?). Hmmm, they were not friendly towards me at all. Many farangs have reported the same thing.

Surprisingly, if you marry a Chinese lady and have a kid there, you have a lot more rights than if you marry a Thai lady and want to live in Thailand.
I was Happier Abroad for a while but Covid killed that off.

Xiongmao, by "Chinese lady", I guess you are referring to Chinese-Thai. Yea, I'm attracted to those ones as well, but do they have the same materialistic mentality that many Chinese women in the mainland/TW/HK do?
